Chapter 242: Chapter 242: Mother-in-Law Actually Agreed

"What’s wrong? Are you upset about having to do your postpartum care properly?"

Mrs. Qi got upset hearing this.

She was well aware of stories of mothers-in-law in the village making life tough for their daughters-in-law.

But she couldn’t bring herself to do such things.

All of her daughters-in-law at home, every single one of them, had to complete their postpartum confinement whenever they had children.

Like with her fourth daughter-in-law who had twins before, the doctor said it took a toll on her health, so Mrs. Qi, as a mother-in-law, insisted she have a double confinement.

Mrs. Qi thought of herself as not the world’s best mother-in-law, but at least as a rare good one.

Who knew she’d receive such comments now?

Mrs. Qi was very angry and felt aggrieved.

Yi Meng, seeing the old lady’s reaction, knew she misunderstood, and quickly said, "Mom, listen to what you’re saying. Although I can’t remember what my own mom was like, I can say with a clear conscience that even my own mom wasn’t as good to me as you are."

Seeing the old lady’s complexion improve a bit, Yi Meng added, "Mom, it’s not that I insist on going out, but the weather is hot now. My room is shut tight, and even adults can’t handle it, let alone the child."

"Look at Eleven, it just takes a moment of inattention for him to get a heat rash. If it weren’t for the medicine prescribed by the two doctors to be brewed into water and applied diligently, the kid would’ve overheated."

Mentioning adults might not work, but mentioning children definitely does.

Sure enough, Mrs. Qi quickly went to check on her grandson.

Little kids are prone to heat rash; although he hasn’t developed any due to applying the lotion, his tiny bottom is still red.

"Oh dear, this must be a lot of suffering."

Mrs. Qi felt sorry for her grandson and immediately asked the two doctors, "Can he really go out?"

"Yes, but he needs to wear a hat and protect his neck and legs from drafts,"

Qin Minglang responded.

Mrs. Qi heaved a sigh of relief, looked at her daughter-in-law, who was filled with hope, and finally nodded, "Alright! But wait in the room for a bit, I’ll sew a cloth hat for you."

"Sure, thank you, Mom."

Yi Meng saw that her goal was achieved, and the flattering words flowed freely.

Mrs. Qi was finally coaxed into a good mood and went back quickly to make the hat.

Since it would be worn at home, appearance wasn’t a concern; soon she came over with a freshly made cotton hat.

Brought along was a long cloth scarf.

"Wear the hat, and use this cloth to wrap your neck,"

Mrs. Qi handed over the scarf and personally helped Yi Meng put on the hat, then scolded in mock anger, "Showing off by wanting to go out; don’t cry if you end up with lasting health issues."

"Hehe, with you around, I’m comfortable anywhere."

Yi Meng laughed as she moved to the edge of the bed, under the watchful eye of the old lady, carefully putting on her shoes, making sure there were no exposed areas except her face and hands, then slowly walked towards the door.

Though she had recovered well, she didn’t dare to make any big movements.

Resting is still necessary, after all, it’s her own body.

Mrs. Qi followed beside, holding her little grandson.

Outside the room, she didn’t let Yi Meng wander around the yard, just placed a chair under the window and let Yi Meng sit and bask in the sun.

Here, the house blocked the wind from blowing over.

Yi Meng felt hot but dared not complain.

Being able to come outside for some fresh air was already the old lady’s limit of acceptance; demanding more might instantly revoke the outing.

Mrs. Qi handed the child to Yi Meng, went back inside, and opened all windows and doors to ventilate.

Everyone was out, leaving the house empty; it certainly needed airing out.

Yi Meng tugged at the hat, adjusting it to cover her brows and shield her eyes from the glaring light.

Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath.

Ah, so comfortable!

Yi Meng felt incredibly happy inside, and a smile crept up her face unconsciously.

Just then, Wang Daya came out to pour water, startled to see Yi Meng outside: "Meng Niang, how come you’re out?"

"Out for some fresh air,"

Yi Meng replied with a smile, "The two doctors checked me over; I’m allowed to come out when the weather’s good, as long as there’s no wind."

"The doctors said so? Does Mom know?"

Wang Daya said, glancing towards the old lady’s room.

Yi Meng found it amusing but explained nonetheless, "She knows, she even sewed this hat for me! She’s in my room right now, opening the windows for ventilation."

"Mom knows? She agreed?"

Wang Daya sounded incredulous.

After all, she was the first daughter-in-law in the household, having personally completed her two postpartum confinements, and witnessed her younger sisters-in-law going through theirs as well.

Her mother-in-law was adamant about not letting them end their confinement prematurely, insisting they completed the term.

Even after completing the term, she’d have a dependable midwife check them over before officially ending it.

Thus, every daughter-in-law in the Qi Family, didn’t lose weight during confinement, but gained some instead.

Even when times were tough, they could still gain some weight.

Yi Meng nodded: "Mom definitely agreed, otherwise I wouldn’t dare come out!"

Wang Daya clicked her tongue twice and said, "Then I’ll call your sister-in-law and the rest over; we can sit together and have a chat."

The sisters-in-law were busy each day though everyone disliked the heat outside so they usually gathered in a room to work and chat.

They visited the fourth sister-in-law daily, but her room was hot so they didn’t linger long.

The discomfort for themselves meant they feared disrupting the fourth sister-in-law’s rest.

Yi Meng was worried no one was around to talk to her, so when her eldest sister-in-law suggested it, she couldn’t refuse. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞

Wang Daya went to fetch the other sisters-in-law, while Qi Manman rushed over first.

The little girl’s bangs were wet with sweat due to the heat and stuck to her face, with a rosy flush to her cheeks.

"Run slowly,"

Yi Meng quickly reminded her daughter to slow down, worrying she might fall or get overheated.

Qi Manman agreed verbally, but her legs didn’t slow down a bit.

Reaching her mom, she said, "Mom, how’s it feel being outside?"

"Great, really good. Thanks to my Manbao!"

Yi Meng cradled her son with one arm and used the other to wipe her daughter’s sweat with a handkerchief: "It’s awfully hot right now, so wait until the sun’s down a bit and it’s cooler to play outside."

"It’s not hot,"

Qi Manman shook her head: "Mom, we went to the pond in the back to see the fish! They’re so big, really amazing."

Saying so, the little girl gestured.

It was unclear if the fish were truly big or if the little girl wasn’t accurate with sizes; her arms made a huge circle.

Yi Meng felt amused yet worried, "Went to the pond? Who went? Were there adults with you?"
