Chapter 138: Chapter 125: Pregnancy

Isla Prescott discovered she was pregnant in the third month of her marriage to Shane Sterling.

The news caught her completely off guard. She and Shane Sterling had no immediate plans to have a child, and they always used protection during intimacy. This baby was completely unplanned.

To make matters worse, she had been so overworked lately that she showed signs of a potential miscarriage right after confirming the pregnancy.

The doctor’s advice was that if she wanted to keep the baby, she would have to stop working and focus on protecting the pregnancy.

Isla Prescott sat in the hospital corridor, feeling completely at a loss. The first thing she did was call Shane Sterling.

When Shane Sterling learned that Isla was pregnant, he was both surprised and overjoyed, and felt like he was about to burst into tears.

"We’re having a baby?"

"Don’t get too excited yet. The doctor said I’m showing signs of a potential miscarriage."

Shane Sterling instantly sobered. "Which hospital are you at? I’ll come pick you up right away."

Isla Prescott gave him the hospital’s address, and Shane Sterling rushed over a short while later.

Although the baby’s arrival was unexpected, from the moment Isla Prescott and Shane Sterling found out, all their hopes and fears were already wrapped up in their child.

"It’s all my fault. I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t taken good care of myself." Isla Prescott felt a pang of guilt.

She had been busy with her charity dance class recently and had even pulled an all-nighter just last night. Now, she was filled with immense regret.

"You silly girl, how can you blame yourself? You didn’t know the baby was coming." Shane Sterling put a steadying arm around her. "Let’s go home first. I’ve already contacted an OB/GYN specialist. Once we’re back, I’ll send her the lab reports and ask what we should do next."

"Okay."

The two of them went home.

After they married, they moved into Shane Sterling’s villa on Kenwood Road. Mrs. Zane and two housekeepers transferred from Arcadia Heights managed their daily lives.

As they were about to go upstairs, Shane Sterling swept Isla Prescott into his arms and carried her directly to their bedroom on the second floor.

This was normal for them at home. It wasn’t uncommon for Shane Sterling to carry her or give her a piggyback ride upstairs when her legs were sore from dance practice. Seeing this, Mrs. Zane assumed they were just being playfully affectionate, and she discreetly covered her mouth with a smile and slipped away.

"You get some rest. I’m going to call Dr. Ford and ask for her advice."

Isla Prescott took Shane Sterling’s hand. "Make the call from here. I want to listen, too."

"Okay."

Shane Sterling dialed the specialist’s number.

The specialist’s advice was largely the same as the hospital doctor’s. She said Isla Prescott’s progesterone levels were low and recommended progesterone supplements and bed rest.

"As long as she gets plenty of rest, the chances of a successful pregnancy are quite high."

Those words made Isla Prescott feel a little better.

"Okay, honey, try not to overthink things." Shane Sterling held Isla Prescott close. "For now, just put work aside and focus on resting at home. I won’t be taking any long-distance business trips for a while, and I’ll make sure to come home early every day to be with you and the baby."

"Okay."

Right now, Isla Prescott’s main work project was the charity dance class. She and Annabelle Leighton had originally planned to go to Brieridge next week for a site visit, but given her current situation, that trip was now impossible for her.

That evening, Isla Prescott called Annabelle Leighton.

She told Annabelle Leighton about the pregnancy and that she had to be on bed rest to protect it.

"I’m so sorry, Annie, but I can’t make the Brieridge trip next week. I can still handle the studio’s online tasks from home during this time, but I’m afraid other work will have to be put on hold."

"Don’t be silly! What are you apologizing for? This is wonderful news!" Annabelle Leighton exclaimed excitedly. "I call dibs on being the godmother. No one else can have it!"

"Okay... if I can keep the baby..."

"Of course you will." Annabelle Leighton cut her off. "From now on, I don’t want you to think about anything else. You don’t need to handle the online work, either. Just focus on resting at home. Taking care of yourself and the baby is your most important job now."

"But what about Brieridge...?"

"Don’t worry. I’ll go."
