Has Big Shot Fallen in Love Today?-Chapter 910: Is It the Wind or the Banner That Moves?
"Is it the wind moving, or the banner moving?" This line is from Sheng Tang’s world line, specifically from Master Huineng’s "Platform Sutra" from the Tang Dynasty.
The original meaning is that in the courtyard of a monastery, there is often wind blowing the banner, leading to endless debate between two monks. Master Huineng comes out to resolve it: "It is neither the wind nor the banner moving, it is the benevolent heart that moves."
This is a very famous Zen saying.
Last night, when Sheng Tang was researching, she happened to think of this line but found it didn’t exist in this world.
Many things she knows do not exist in this world. So, perhaps that is her purpose—to bring good things here, to share with the people.
After she finished asking her question, not only were the monks stunned, but William was also bewildered.
The middle-aged monk seemed to be stirred to action.
They chant scriptures and Buddha’s name year-round, but could they possibly be defeated by a young woman on the matter of Zen sayings?
While the middle-aged monk was pondering, the young monk beside him couldn’t hold back: "Of course it’s the banner moving."
"If there’s no wind, then how does the banner move?" Sheng Tang asked.
The young monk: "..."
Another young monk was dissatisfied: "Then it’s the wind moving?"
"Have you ever seen the wind? What does the wind look like? Since you can’t see it, how can it move?" Sheng Tang countered.
The courtyard fell into a dead silence.
William was almost jumping in excitement.
Sister Tang is simply amazing, practically a sage! This question is so tricky, is it the wind moving or the banner moving?
William felt the monks couldn’t answer it at all.
Sheng Tang wasn’t in a hurry; she waited patiently.
The monks were still whispering, and the face of the middle-aged monk was already very unsettled.
After a while, Sheng Tang glanced at her watch: "It’s been ten minutes, do you masters have an answer? If not, we’ll consider it a win, and take our leave." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
She tentatively retreated two steps backward.
The young monk wanted to stop her.
The middle-aged monk hesitated for a moment before saying to the young monk: "Go open the door, let them leave."
The young monk was reluctant: "But..."
"A bet is a bet, go open the door!" The middle-aged monk shouted loudly, clearly agitated.
Sheng Tang and William tentatively exited the monastery gate.
Sure enough, the monks did not chase after them.
Once outside the gate, the two started running frantically, Sheng Tang’s water bottle fell, and she didn’t care to pick it up.
William held Sheng Tang’s hand, running swiftly, until they’d run for over twenty minutes before they paused for a minute, then continued running.
They ran all the way back to the temple.
At the temple entrance, they saw the film crew staff, and Sheng Tang and William both collapsed to the ground.
The staff was startled: "Mr. Sheng, William, what happened to you both?"
Sheng Tang’s heart was about to leap out of her throat.
She had never run so fast before, now her heart was racing, sweat poured from her body, she couldn’t speak more than half a sentence, just gasping for breath.
William wanted to say something, but the words that came out were fragmented.
The director and Wang Chuiyang, among others, came up from the temple dining hall, happened to see them, and walked over.
"Weren’t you two out for a morning run?" Wang Chuiyang reached out to support Sheng Tang, "Was this a morning run, or did you go to a competition?"
"Why go all out for a run?" The director also found it amusing, "Did you two make a bet or something?"
Sheng Tang was still catching her breath.
William was able to speak: "We... almost... didn’t make it back..."
Wang Chuiyang and the director were confused.
Ten minutes later, William was finally able to explain clearly.
He recounted the recent events to the director and Wang Chuiyang, and the director also felt a surge of tension on their behalf.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?" Wang Chuiyang gave William a heavy thump.
"I didn’t know the door bar was so unreliable." William felt a bit wronged.
"It’s been around for over a hundred years, how reliable can it be?" Wang Chuiyang rolled his eyes at him.
William was left speechless.
Only then did Sheng Tang sigh: "Chuiyang, help me back, my legs are giving out."
