Harem of the Demon: Gathering Beauties in a Magic World-Chapter 68. Quid Pro Quo
Chapter 68: 68. Quid Pro Quo
Aaron advanced towards the edge of the table and rested his knuckles on it and breathed out sharply after taking a peek below the surface of the table.
He turned to Mister Kim. "I am Aaron Winters," Aaron said to the rotund manager of the inn.
Mister Kim took short involuntary steps back. Perhaps, his movement was fuelled by sudden shock but who knows? Regaining his composure, he stepped forward again, inching his head farther than his body as he stayed his gaze on Aaron.
"Winters?" he said under his breath with his face wearing a look that showed that he was familiar with such a name.
Aaron cleared his throat noisily while glancing at the area under the table and raising his eyebrows. Mister Kim understood immediately and looked down, exposing the young lady who was hidden under there.
"Get out."
"But—"
Mister Kim knocked on the table with slight annoyance, prompting the young lady to stand from where she was squatted in hiding.
"I said you should... get... out."
The lady cleaned the corners of her well moistened mouth with her neatly painted thumb.
She rubbed the manager’s cheek passionately and winked at him while blowing him a kiss before turning to leave. It was as she turned to go toward the door that she got a clear view of Aaron’s face and shuddered, almost tripping and falling to the ground.
Her heart dropped into her stomach. "Goodness!" she shouted, placing her palm over her left chest to slow her heart and calm herself down.
She couldn’t help but gaze at his soft, spotless skin and well groomed short black hair. The lady gulped and unknowingly bowed in respect to Aaron despite not knowing him before. She was embarrassed that such a handsome young man had been the one to catch her in such a messed up situation.
The woman looked away and hurried out of the office with Aaron’s eyes following her every step of the way until she shut the door after her.
"Please, sit down," Mister Kim urged his guest, pointing to a seat that was just beside Aaron.
Aaron sat down and looked around the office. "Nice. Seems like you are really enjoying this place, Mister Kim."
Mister Kim began tapping his fingers on the table, frantically looking for something that Aaron had no idea about. Just soon after that, the manager realised that most of the documents he had arranged were scattered on the floor and he got up and started picking.
Aaron kept himself occupied with the view of the office, not really caring what the manager was doing. He continued to look around, using that time to also wait for the manager to settle down before he gets into the reason why he had come to the inn to see him.
As Mister Kim was wasting his time, Aaron rolled his eyes and sighed quite loudly. He had intentionally done this out of impatience and for the manager to hurry up.
’What sort of lame human is this?’ Aaron thought. ’Maybe you should shed some weight so you can at least move your own body. Pfft. Disgusting.’
"So-Sorry about that," the manager apologised as he placed the arranged papers back on his table. He laughed nervously and scratched his head.
"Can you do me a favour?" Mister Kim asked.
Aaron leaned back and folded his arms. "Depends on what it is."
There was a short moment of silence before Mister Kim lets out a throat rasp that breaks this silence. The manager pushed forward on his seat, resting his elbows on the table that stood between him and his guest.
The two men looked each other in the eyes. However, Aaron, having nothing to say, waited for the manager to make his request.
"Please don’t tell anyone what you saw," Mister Kim pleaded earnestly with Aaron.
’Hmm. If only he knows that I don’t give a rat’s ass what he does with his staff,’ Aaron’s thoughts echoed quietly.
Mister Kim clasped his hands, stared at Aaron and pleaded with him a second and even a third time.
Aaron let out a weary sigh. "Alright. I won’t tell anybody. Good?"
Finally, some life returned to the manager’s face and he relaxed a little bit more. Heaving a sigh of relief, Mister Kim adjusted his clothes and sat comfortably on his chair.
"Thank you...?"
"Aaron. Aaron Winters."
"Ah, yes. You’ve only just said that," Mister Kim recalled with a sheepish chuckle. "Thank you for wanting to keep my secret, Mister Aaron Winters."
"It’s nothing, Mister Kim. However, you have to also do something for me."
Mister Kim sat up straight. "Whatever you want. Just name it."
Aaron leaned closer. "You seem to be familiar with my family name, don’t you? Don’t lie. I already saw how shocked you were when I mentioned my family name."
Hearing this, a sigh escaped Mister Kim. A slight dipping of his head affirmed what Aaron asked about. Aaron saw the affirmation flash in the manager’s eyes and smiled.
’Bingo!’ he celebrated inwardly.
Aaron had only agreed to keep a secret that didn’t affect him in any way just so he could have the manager wrapped around his fingers. He didn’t see the need to blackmail him with his secret yet since he could simply deny it and the lady too, and with Aaron being a new face in the inn, they would be vindicated.
He adjusted on his seat and said, "I’ve come this far for a personal matter. One which I believe that you can help a great deal if you can just tell me all that you know."
Mister Kim merely gaped in confusion because he wasn’t not seeing this supposedly important role he was going to play.
"Being familiar with my family name means you have heard it somewhere or have even met a person bearing it. So I will ask you this right now, Mister Kim..."
"Do you know a man who goes by the name of Isaac Winters?"
