Chapter 233: Beg for forgiveness

Third person POV

Karen was sure her father would have solved everything, eliminating the video from the internet, but the reality was that multiple people were murmuring things about her.

But the video itself was just a small thing compared to the real problem. Her public image was being completely destroyed and she couldn’t do anything against it.

Liam’s return to the university was the first sign that Karen’s world was about to collapse.

Karen’s initial anger at seeing him again quickly turned to confusion, and then to a cold fear. How could he be there? She had falsely accused him, and he had been expelled.

How dared he return?

But that wasn’t the worst part.

Liam hadn’t just returned; he had done so with his head held high, a confident smile on his lips, and an entourage of girls from the volleyball team who accompanied him as if he were a hero wherever he went.

Suddenly, the nerdy boy whom nobody cared about and nobody liked had become popular and loved.

But for Karen, what really mattered was this: the truth came to light like a tsunami, destroying her usual life. She was no longer the queen of the university; far from it.

Liam had won a lawsuit against her. The harassment accusation Karen had fabricated against him was dismantled thanks to the testimony of Eric and his other friends, who guaranteed he hadn’t done anything.

Furthermore, there had never been any proof of what she claimed. And, for her unfair decision, the dean was fired in the midst of a scandal that shook the institution’s reputation.

Karen had no idea any of this was happening because, until that point, her father had done everything to protect her from all the consequences. But there was nothing more he could do.

The news spread like wildfire, and Karen’s name became synonymous with deceit and cruelty. She heard the whispers in the hallways, felt the judgmental stares from every corner. People saw her as a bitch.

But most of all, what hurt her most was seeing Eric speak ill of her. The consensus that formed in everyone’s mind was that he had broken up with her because he could no longer stand what a terrible person she was.

"Shit, shit..." Karen muttered, eating alone inside a bathroom stall. It was the only place she could find to hide.

She couldn’t stand walking around in public anymore because everywhere she went, people were talking badly about her and laughing at her; she couldn’t bear it.

"That damned traitor..." she murmured weakly, remembering how all of this was happening because Eric had abandoned her.

Tears streamed down her face. They were supposed to love each other, they were supposed to live happily ever after together, but suddenly he had abandoned her... why?

Karen picked up her phone with trembling hands, trying to distract herself from the anguish suffocating her.

But when she unlocked the screen, her heart froze. At the top of her recommendations, a live stream shined with flashy letters: Amber – Commenting on the latest controversies.

Curious and fearful at the same tempo, she tapped the screen. The image of the stunningly famous streamer appeared, vibrant, charismatic, surrounded by thousands of viewers filling the chat with laughter and mocking emojis.

And the topic? Her.

Amber was judging her and badmouthing her, an arrogant and confident smile on her face, as if she were absolutely certain everyone would be on her side.

And they were.

Karen bit her lower lip so hard she tasted blood.

If this had happened a few days ago, she would have been sure it would all be resolved, that her father would crush that arrogant streamer, and that everyone would take her side.

But now...

"No, no," she shook her head, refusing to accept reality.

But there was no way she could ignore reality forever. Everything had changed, and her perfect world was crumbling bit by bit.

In that instant, Karen understood the full extent of her fall: it didn’t matter what she said, what she did, or how much her father tried to cover it up; her image was already completely destroyed.

And in the following days, the inevitable happened. All her friends wanted to distance themselves. Even the few who stayed in touch for a little while soon began to drift away.

In less than a week, she had fought with everyone she knew... Or rather, almost everyone. Sophia still remained, pretending to be her friend.

This was part of the revenge plan, and Sophia was carefully ensuring that, soon, Karen would have no one left but her. No friends, no one close, no other support network.

But the reality was that everyone hated her, and it wouldn’t be long before they started to actively bully her.

The truth was, no one was being too aggressive yet because she was very rich, but that was about to change.

Meanwhile, Liam, the man Karen had tried to destroy, wasn’t just prospering; he was reigning. He walked the campus like a king, naturally drawing everyone’s gaze.

For some reason, he was always surrounded by beautiful girls from the volleyball team, the envy of any man. And for some reason, they all adored him, dressing more and more provocatively and training harder, trying to get his attention in a continuous competition. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

Eric, her loyal squire, now acted, at least in public, as his best friend. The only thing that comforted Karen was that Eric never looked at or coveted any of the many girls nearby.

But the reason for this wasn’t a sign that he still loved Karen; it was merely a sign of submission. He understood that those women belonged to Liam.

Not just him; everyone knew about the harem. It wasn’t even a rumor; the girls openly admitted they were all dating Liam.

Many men tried to flirt with members of the harem, only to be coldly refused. And yet, Liam continued to date any girl he was interested in.

And, infuriatingly to Karen, the fact that Liam had a harem didn’t make anyone look at him with contempt.

On the contrary, it wasn’t uncommon to hear girls muttering in the hallways that they would gladly join that group.

Girls from all corners of the campus dreamed of being the next one chosen, of offering themselves to be part of that inner circle of obedient goddesses who belonged to Liam, body and soul.

And many of them ended up being rejected, and apparently, the fact that he only accepted some girls made him even more coveted.

Just gaining his attention granted great status.

So, as Karen wandered aimlessly, feeling defeated by everything that was happening, she saw Liam approach with a confident smile.

"I’d like to talk with you for a moment," he commented with a sadistic smile.
