Grinding EXP From Fireball Skill-Chapter 59: Assassin
Li Wei didn’t believe in things that sounded too good to be true.
He shook his head and said, "No, thank you. I’m doing just fine at the Mage Tower."
Fesia pressed, "Learning a Tier Zero Magic costs at least one hundred gold coins, and a Tier One Magic at least three hundred. The journey from an Apprentice Mage to an Official Mage will cost you at least a thousand gold coins."
"This is an expense that’s hard for even a noble family to bear, let alone an ordinary person like you with no one to rely on."
"It would be such a pity if a lack of money were to hinder your cultivation progress and waste your talent as a Mage!"
"By joining the Mage Tutoring Corps, you can enjoy the City Lord’s Mansion’s resources without any obligations. Wouldn’t that be great?"
Li Wei sat down and said, "No, thank you."
Seeing Li Wei’s cold attitude, Fesia couldn’t say anything more and turned to leave.
After hearing this, Delis’s expression flickered; he seemed a little tempted.
Rota opened his eyes, smiled at Li Wei, and said, "There’s no such thing as a free lunch. If you want to enjoy those benefits, you first have to sign at least a ten-year servitude contract with the City Lord’s Mansion, and even then, it’s not guaranteed you’ll get them."
Li Wei looked at Rota. "Thank you for the reminder, Master Rota."
Hearing this, Delis gave up on the idea.
The Mages on duty only needed to show up when a battle broke out. No one cared what they did the rest of the time.
At noon, soldiers even brought Li Wei and the others their meals.
Li Wei spent the morning in meditative cultivation and the afternoon practicing his Magic.
When his Spiritual Power was depleted, he would practice his breathing exercises for a while to strengthen his body.
Nothing much happened for the rest of the day.
In the evening, Li Wei and the others left the city wall. They weren’t required for the night watch.
Rota glanced at Li Wei and said, "When cultivating in a dangerous area, don’t exhaust your Spiritual Power. If something unexpected happens, you won’t even be able to cast any Magic without it."
Upon hearing this, Li Wei quickly thanked him, "Thank you for the warning, Master Rota!"
Without Rota’s reminder, he probably would have only realized this after experiencing a dangerous situation firsthand.
After dinner, he returned to his room.
Li Wei took out his Magic Badge and glanced at it. His Contribution had increased by one point.
’Another day of just hanging around, and another Contribution point.’
’Not bad.’
He rested for a while, recovering most of his Spiritual Power.
Late at night, when most people were asleep, Li Wei activated his Great Dream Traveling Skill and slipped into the dreamscape.
Li Wei first turned invisible, a Fireball held in his palm, before pushing open the door, afraid a Nightmare might be lying in wait.
No one was outside. The hallway was empty.
He extinguished the Fireball in his palm and walked outside.
The sky outside was dim. The only light in the city came from the flames of burning houses.
Desolation, decay, and chaos were the themes of this nightmare.
Li Wei walked down the street, and both the humans and Nightmares he passed ignored his invisible form.
Many ordinary people in Cold Sand City had also been drawn into the nightmare, mercilessly slaughtered by the Nightmares.
For the vast majority of people, whatever happened in the dream was just a dream.
Upon waking, they would forget most of it.
There was no need to care about what happened in a dream.
Li Wei roamed the dim city, searching for a suitable target.
Occasionally, he would ambush a lone Nightmare, killing it in one blow before quickly retreating.
THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
Li Wei stopped. He saw a peculiar group of Nightmares.
This group of Nightmares actually had human forms!
Nightmare soldiers, wreathed in gray mist, ran quickly toward a building.
The Nightmare soldiers charged into the building. With a loud BANG, a window shattered, and a dark figure shot out.
Several wisps of gray mist flew out of the house, transforming back into human soldiers after catching up to the dark figure.
CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!
A fierce battle erupted in an instant.
Several Nightmare soldiers were ganging up on one person but couldn’t take them down after a prolonged assault.
Li Wei’s eyes narrowed. ’The dark figure’s strength is at least Tier One High Level, maybe even Peak.’
Those Nightmare soldiers were all Tier One Nightmares.
’The figure is unlikely to be Tier Two. If they were Tier Two, they wouldn’t need to run.’
SWISH! SWISH! SWISH!
A few flashes of cold light, and the Nightmare soldiers’ necks were severed, their bodies toppling over.
The fallen heads dissolved into gray mist, returned to their bodies, reformed, and then the soldiers stood up to continue fighting.
The dark figure automatically ignored the Nightmare soldiers’ resurrection, not even questioning why ordinary soldiers had the strength of Tier One Professionals.
All abnormalities are ignored in the dreamscape.
Surrounded by several unkillable Nightmare soldiers, the dark figure gradually lost its agility.
Li Wei also got a clear look at her.
A young female Assassin with cat ears.
’A Half-Beastman?’ Li Wei was a little surprised.
’Is she being chased by Nightmares disguised as soldiers because she fears being discovered by humans?’
’What conspiracy could a Half-Beastman Assassin have for hiding in Cold Sand City?’
He was also a bit surprised. He hadn’t expected to uncover a Half-Beastman Assassin hidden in Cold Sand City within the dreamscape.
More than the credit for capturing the Half-Beastman Assassin, Li Wei was concerned about whether she posed a threat to his own safety.
’What if the Assassin is here to assassinate Mages?’
’You can’t be on guard against a thief forever.’
Li Wei walked toward the battlefield.
He planned to get his answers from the Half-Beastman Assassin’s memories.
Lilia looked at the unkillable human soldiers around her, sensing that something was wrong.
She had clearly killed these humans several times, yet the number of enemies around her hadn’t decreased.
RRRIP!
Lilia was wounded, and her speed faltered.
Several Nightmare soldiers attacked at once, sealing off all her escape routes.
She dodged with all her might, stretching her flexibility to its limit.
Lilia practically twisted herself into a pretzel to narrowly avoid three spears.
In the end, a spear still pierced her left shoulder, and her dagger fell to the ground.
’It’s over, I’m going to die!’
Suddenly, out of the corner of her eye, she saw a ball of flame rapidly expanding.
’What is that?’
Lilia’s thoughts stopped as her figure shattered in the flames. The four Nightmares beside her were also destroyed by the fire.
WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!
Chain of Small Fireballs Skill!
Four Fireballs shot out, each one shattering an exposed Nightmare Core.
Li Wei picked up Lilia’s Memory Fragment and left the area before other Nightmares could arrive.
Back in his room, Li Wei began to digest the cat-eared Assassin girl’s Memory Fragment.
’Hm? Did I misunderstand her?’
Li Wei’s expression flickered.
In the memory, Lilia was a native of Cold Sand City. She had been hiding her Half-Beastman identity while working for the Assassin’s Guild.
This was because Half-Beastmen faced discrimination in human society.
The image of a pitiful girl formed in Li Wei’s mind: discriminated against by humans since childhood, became an Assassin by accident, hiding her identity to start a new life, and terrified of being exposed.
He tapped the table. Something felt off.
’I’ll keep looking.’
Li Wei discovered what was wrong: Lilia’s memories contained nothing related to combat.
’How could an Assassin have no memories of fighting?’
He looked at the new Skill he had obtained and felt that things were getting complicated.
’Why would an Assassin know Magic?’
[Shadow Tentacles (Tier One Entry Level)] 213/1000
Seeing the last scene in the memory, Li Wei’s heart leaped in shock.
Several figures stood in the shadows. Only their feet were visible; their bodies were unclear.
"Assassinate..."
