God System: Growing My Cult Across the Multiverse-Chapter 10: Glorious Victory?
Chapter 10: Glorious Victory?
By the time Zayne finished dealing with all the monsters, the sky had already started getting bright. Having dealt the final blow to the last werewolf that was still lurking around, Zayne stretched his back, and took a look around.
The ground was littered with corpses, the cool morning air heavy with the scent of blood and charred fur. There were close to sixty dead werewolves, scattered all over the place, from the gate, to the forest. Some of the monsters had fled, but Zayne didn't bother chasing after them. He had already done more than enough.
But his points...
With a heavy heart, Zayne glanced at his balance. 23,365,783 points. He had earned more than usual last night - the villagers listened to his words, and there was a large influx of prayers - his balance still went down quite a bit. Most of it was the initial cost of descent, but all the healing, improving his physique, and raising his mana levels, also cost Zayne quite a lot.
It might not have seemed like a lot, compared to his balance, just around 2 or 3 percent of the total amount... However, it would take Zayne at least a few years to get all of those points back, based on his average income.
Still, despite the devastating loss, Zayne also felt... refreshed. It was nice, cutting through the monsters, destroying things with his own hands. Much better than he would have expected... It helped him release some of his pent-up frustration. It would have been better if the targets were different - the monsters had never done anything to Zayne, so he didn't have any grudges against them - but, oh well.
Perhaps he should have done it earlier. Expensive as it was, after all those years, he deserved to treat himself. Floating in the nothingness and watching the world from above, with only the system to keep him company, was hardly any fun, after all.
He pondered for a moment, before asking, "System, how much for extending the descent to five years?"
[759,295 points]
'Hmm.' Zayne pressed his lips, his brows furrowed.
That was a lot of points. More than he had spent on this descent so far...
However, even if he were to pick a shorter period, he wouldn't save all that much. Extensions were progressively cheaper the longer the period they were paid for in advance. The only drawback was that once paid for, he wouldn't be able to get a refund, even if he canceled the descent earlier... Of course, five years was a short time, at least from Zayne's point, so it wouldn't be difficult for him to stick around for that long, but...
"Sir Prophet!" a voice called from one of the watchtowers, pulling Zayne out of his thoughts. Now that it was morning, the villagers couldn't hold back any longer, and sent a few men to scout the situation.
Zayne clicked his tongue, glancing at the men with displeasure. He was still standing in the middle of the field, drenched in blood, his clothes in tatters. In fact, they were so damaged that they could barely be called 'clothes' anymore - just some torn scraps of material hanging from him, leaving most of his body exposed. The villagers came too early, before he could tidy himself up a bit, and so they had to witness him in such a sorry state...
The men didn't seem to share his thoughts, though, because they were staring at him in awe. Even Sydell, who was among them, looked at him with begrudging respect.
In the end, who cared about his attire, when he defeated so many monsters? Only Zayne was interested in his own appearance, wanting to look presentable as his own 'prophet'.
In fact, in a way, his current appearance was even more astounding precisely because of the state of his clothes - they were all torn up, and yet, there was not a single scratch on Zayne... It was truly a miracle in the people's eyes.
The gates soon opened, and three of the young men rushed forward, running toward Zayne, all excited. As they weren't paying any attention to their surroundings, it was no wonder they hadn't noticed one of the 'dead' werewolves on the ground suddenly moving...
"Watch out!"
Zayne leaped forward. In a blink, he was right by them, jumping on the werewolf attacking, and stabbing it from the top. The young man who almost ended up torn by the monster's claws, took a few unsteady steps back, before plopping down on his butt. His eyes were opened wide, staring in shock at the werewolf's twitching body, as the monster engaged in his final struggle.
"Be careful. Some of the vylkyrs might only be playing dead," he said, putting on a gentle smile, as he pushed the sword deeper, effectively silencing the werewolf's weak whimpers. Inwardly, however, he felt a bit regretful.
Too bad it wasn't Sydell. Then, Zayne would just have to be a liiittle bit too slow, and he would have been able to get rid of the nuisance.
But at least he could show off his skills. After fighting so many monsters, he had improved quite a bit. While his style was still crude, he made up for it with his superior physique. For the villagers, who had never seen any swordmaster in action, it must have looked impressive. Especially for those young, inexperienced men.
Sure enough, they were all gawking at him. "Sir Prophet, dat was awesome!"
'Heh.' Zayne smirked, pulling the sword from the werewolf's corpse.
Now that was the attitude people should have when facing him.
"Alright, alright. It was nothing special, really," he waved his hand dismissively. "Let's return to the village for now. We will need to send a group to clean it all up afterward. And to fix the gate."
Although the gate had somehow endured the assault, it was in a terrible state. Well, not like it was good before, but after the night attack, it was truly right on the verge of falling apart. At this rate, the next time the monsters appeared, it would fall before people could even gather to defend the village...
That was the villagers' problem though. At the moment, Zayne was more concerned with his breakfast. The system automatically healed all of his injuries and restored his stamina. What it didn't deal with, though, was his empty stomach...

And Zayne, naturally, had no intention to waste points on that, when he could just request to be fed. Now that his status as a prophet of god should be confirmed - or, at least, nobody would dare to question it, even if they still had some doubts - and he was the hero of Gavia village, people should be eager to do at least this much for him.
