God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.-Chapter 871: Arrival at the Dome of Fire (1).
Swinging the {Lonely Dragon} Warblade, Cain cut down two zombies at once.
Black ichor splattered all over his armor, but he had no time to be bothered about that.
The rampaging horde of {Turtle Golems} was just a few paces behind them after all.
Julio was currently standing on the Steel Herald's shoulder, firing bullets without stop into the horde of zombies and Devils in front of them.
Each bullet of his accurately found it mark, embedded in the skull of a Devil or zombie.
Usually, it was easier to take a zombie down with just three to four bullets per zombie due to the rotting flesh being weak to magic based attacks.
However, the Devils were incredibly powerful opponents and he would require an entire cartridge to fell one.
And they would not just stand still and be pelted with bullets after all.
Luckily, Cain's blade was sharp enough to kill the much tougher Devils with a well aimed swing.
Wiping the blood off his helmet's visor, Cain continued his charge forward.
The Steel Herald was like a blizzard of steel chains and blades on this chaotic battlefield.
Golden blades shot out from its body, wrapping around the heads and necks of zombies, crushing them or tearing them off the bodies of their previous owners.
Just like that, they tore a hole through the army of zombies and Devils.
Cain looked up.
Coincidentally, at the same time, Arnach looked down at their small party.
The two eyes met.
Cain immediately understood the look on the eyes of the furious Devil.
'Shit!' Cain cursed as he watched the Devil roar and slam its blade into the ground.
As he was, he had no doubt he could take this Devil down. However, it would most likely than not take up a large chunk of his strength to do so.
The earth rumbled once more.
Sensing danger coming from below, Cain cried out,
"Dodge it!"
A moment later, the ground beneath and before them cracked and broke into small and larger fissures. The fissures continued to spread out in all directions.
Cain's face paled when he looked down.
Within the fissures were enormous pools of boiling magma.
He glanced at the {Greater Flame Devil}.
'On second thought, maybe it won't be so easy after all...'
His mind spun.
With death before and behind him, there was no escape.
Absolutely none whatsoever...
Unless...
A crazy idea appeared in his mind.
As they ran, he glanced to the side,
"Julio, where is the Dome of Fire?" He roared amidst the loud rumbling and the screams from the jets of fire jutting out of the ground periodically.
Julio's eyes darted all over before settling on a particular location.
He yelled back,
"There! Where the darkness of the sky fades into a bright amber!"
Cain nodded. Making a few calculations in his mind, he couldn't help but feel like his plan would work.
'It might. But first, I have to confirm a few things.'
He sucked in a deep breath.
Then he darted in the direction of the enormous {Greater Flame Devil}.
"Follow me!"
The Steel Herald stomped its feet into the ground, abruptly changing directions.
Julio's face paled,
"You madman~!"
His voice trailed off as both Cain and the Steel Herald increased their speed with a burst.
Feeling the heat causing welts to form on the surface of his skin, Cain grinned,
'Sure enough, they seem to be after us— No... They are after those two. It seems that damned turtle didn't deceive us.'
Although it was annoying, it was going to be for the greater purpose.
Cain winced as the searing hot metal of his armor pressed against his flesh, causing a welt to fester on his flesh. A moment later, it healed up. Then another appeared before healing moments later.
It was causing him endless discomfort.
Although his flame resistance was high, the temperature of the flames produced by this Devil was beyond impressed.
He quickly dismissed his armor. The hot wind immediately hit his cheeks, causing him to wince.
Still, it was better than being roasted alive in a hunk of metal.
He greedily sucked in a deep breath of air.
Gripping the handle of the {Lonely Dragon} Warblade, he charged forward even faster, turning into a blur. The Steel Herald kept up with him.
The stampeding horde of {Turtle Golems} were both fast and persistent.
They managed to give chase without losing any distance. They seemed rather intent on crushing everything into dust in their rage.
In his rage, Arnach noticed the humans approaching him.
He roared,
"Such impunity!"
The winds stirred violently as the enormous Devil stretched its arm into the sky.
Dozens of {Sky Devils} shrieked as they fell from the skies to their deaths.
The world churned and was bathed in fire.
The enormous obsidian blade ignited with the black flames crystalized within the crimson gem.
Cain exhaled slowly.
The world seemed to slowly down.
The air became viscous.
Every breath he took was flaming hot and seems to ignite his blood.
He clenched his fists so much so that his veins popped.
He activated several skills all at once.
Different colored auras surrounded his body.
However, a moment later, they were all dulled out by a thin layer of pulsating blackness that clung to his body like a membrane.
Immediately, Cain felt his vitality ignite and turn into strength.
Pure, brutal strength.
His eyes widened.
He suddenly understood the nature of the {Black Warrior} skill he had just received.
All of his other attribute boosting skills, spells and abilities made increases based on his base attributes.
{Black Warrior} made increases based on his aggregate stats. Meaning it was a general multiplier.
In his enhanced state using {Golden Wyrm: Asura}, Cain was already incredibly powerful with physical strength that rivaled even the strongest of Devils and beasts.
That, paired up with multiple attribute increasing spells and skills like {Burning Spirit} plus the effect of {Black Warrior} created a domino effect.
His body broke apart under the strain. And it repaired itself almost immediately.
The flaming sword of the {Greater Flame Devil} came swinging down bringing with it a cataclysmic cloud of fire.
A layer of [Ki Fire] clung to the {Lonely Dragon} Warblade. An illusory black fragon's head appeared in the sky above him.
It was fearsome and filled with a terrifying majesty.
Cain leapt into the sky and swung his sword.
The world turned grey for a moment.
Then there was a flash of light.
Arnach's eyes widened.
Torrents of blood fell throm the mountain-like body of the {Greater Flame Devil} as it fell to its knees.
Its blade, as well as both its severed arms slowly fell towards the ground.
An enormous gash that stretched from its shoulder to its torso all of a sudden.
"H-how..."
A moment later, the falling body was trampled by the horde of {Turtle Golems}.
The {Greater Flame Devil} died before it hit the ground...
