God Ash: Remnants of the fallen.-Chapter 778: Interlude Confrontation (4).
Olirod roared furiously.
The flames around him burned with madness, their heat pushing the crowd back. In a split second, he arrived before the human woman and belched out a torrent of flames.
The runes on his body lit up, increasing the potency of the flames.
In response, the human pulled the shadows from the ground to form a shield.
However, what flimsy shield could stop his mighty flames?

The shield of shadows crumbled immediately, but the person who summoned them had disappeared.
He grinned whilst twirling his axes,
"As I said, humans are cowardly prey that run and hide."
His single eye darted all around, towards every shadow and dark spot.
Even though he was a burly, huge creature, the {Flameskin Troll} was rather agile and observant. Over eons of evolution, the {Flameskin Trolls} had developed rather extreme sensitivity to light and heat.
The enormous eye on his head would be able to see right through the slightest flunctuations in mere moments.
He grinned cruelly. The axes in his hands turned into a blur as he smashed them into an unassuming shadow.
The shadow morphed and shifted quickly, dodging the axes by a hair’s breadth. However, the flames that followed after managed to singe the shadows a bit.
Evangeline’s body manifested a moment later from the displaced shadows.
Olirod was up on her the next moment, violently swinging his weapons.
Evangeline weaved and dodged as much as she could, parried those she couldn’t with her daggers.
However, there was only so much she could do with such short weapons. Everytime she tried closing the distance between them, the flames on the body of the {Flameskin Troll} would ignite, forcing her to back off.
If she tried diving into the shadow world to get close, the observational abilities of the Troll would not allow it.
Cain frowned to himself.
’She is at a disadvantage. In terms of strength and physique, she doesn’t come close. Her mana pool has become cast thanks to the second trial, but it still cannot compare to such a beast.’
She was outmatched in every way.
And yet, for some reason, she still wore an eeriely calm expression on her face.
’No... She’s not calm.’ Cain thought, his expression a bit strange.
’She’s enjoying herself.’
Cain always knew Evangeline was a strange one. Ever since he had first encountered her, she had been odd and off-putting despite being extraordinarily beautiful.
However, he had grown to trust her more and more, as she had proven to be a reliable comrade in arms.
All that still didn’t change the fact that she was a bit blood hungry sometimes, although she never explicitly tried to hide it.
In a way, they were similar.
Regardless of how much he tried to deny it sometimes, he was also a battle fanatic. There were times where he wanted nothing more than to relish in the feeling of having his life in the balance while he snatched the life from others.
It was a different kind of thrill when compared to things like studying magic theory and learning new runes.
Olirod let out another roar. The flame surrounding him grew even more as he changed something under his breath.
Evangeline jumped back and also began chanting.
A large crimson magic circle appeared behind her.
A large flaming magic circle appeared behind Olirod.
"Blood Arrows."
"Molten Hail!"
Evangeline’s magic circle spat out arrows of concentrated blood elemental mana. Dozens of molten rocks covered in sticky flames shot out of Olirod’s magic circle.
The two spells collided violently, producing a wild explosion of brimstone and erratic embers.
Pushing past the smoke, Olirod covered the distance separating them in the blink of an eye.
In response, Evangeline spun in her heel. Using her body as a fulcrum, she threw her daggers at the {Flameskin}.
The daggers immediately turned into hypersonic projectiles. Her aim was true and precise. The dagger’s were flying towards his chest and eye.
Olirod’s eye widened and he crossed all four of his arms to guard against the daggers.
They stabbed helplessly into his arms, failing to pierce an vital areas.
Olirod growled, and without pulling the daggers out, he rushed forward again. This time, flames exploded beneath his heels, propelling hin forward faster than before, causing Evangeline to misjudge.
Her reaction time was off by just a millisecond.
However, it was.more than enough.
The axes drew two lines. Her legs shuffled back, trying to avoid them both, but she was unsuccessful in avoiding the second one.
A torrent of blood gushed out of her ripped shoulder and the force threw her to the ground.
Olirod violently followed up with a chop towards her head. If the axe fell, her head would be lopped off clean.
In the nick of time, she melted into the shadows, causing the attack to fail.

The grin on the face of the {Flameskin Troll} turned into guttural laughter.
"Hmm... Looks like she is in a bit of dilemma. Wouldn’t you say the same, Cain?"
Cain who had been carefully observing the battle felt a presence move close to him.
He let out an internal groan.
Grimm was standing to the side looking at him with a grin filled with schadenfreude.
Cain grimaced without looking at him,
"You could say that, yes. But she hasn’t lost yet.
Grimm shook his head, "Shouldn’t you have stepped in in her place? Why would you let her battle the brute? Isn’t she your woman?"
Cain shook his head,
"She isn’t my woman." He said, although it was a bit complicated.
He turned to the Dark Elf barbarian hybrid with a light smile,
"And she doesn’t need me to fight for her. In fact, I’d rather not fight her again if possible."
Grimm raised a brow. He lightly tapped the hilt of his blade as he turned his attention back to the battle,
"I know a lost cause when I see on."
His eyes piercing blue eyes lit up for a moment,
"Battle is all about the numbers in the end. The reach of her blade, her arm strength, her combat abilities, her mana capacity, her physique. Everything is inferior. Even her spells and skills are all countered. She has no advantage here."
He turned to Cain with a smug smile,
"Which means she is going to die if you don’t do anything."
Cain shrugged, "She won’t die."
Grimm snorted, "And how are you so sure about that?"
"How?" Cain said as he pondered on it.
He had seen what she was capable of doing. Having flashbacks to that filled him with a little bit of terror.
Also the look on her face now was not that of a person being threatened.
The cut that had torn right through her leather armor and into her flesh had been brutal. However, the wound was already nowhere to be seen.
She has only bled a little too. It was not enough to kill her.
He turned to Grimm with a devious smile on his face,
"You’ll see soon enough."
As though on cue, something began to change.
Olirod stumbled back, one of his axes hitting the ground as he heaved heavily whilst clutching his side. A stream of boiling blood poured down from his side.
Evangeline stood before him, a new blade in her hand covered with sizzling blood.
Her crimson eyes glowed ominously as she muttered to herself,
"Your anatomy is rather strange. That should have pierced through your heart."
She tilted her head slightly and began walking slowly towards the kneeling {Flameskin Troll},
"Just where could your heart be?"
