Global Disaster: I Will Slay Gods In This Second Chance!-Chapter 45: Remember Your Place
Hearing that, everyone fell silent, and even Morgana pursed her lips.
But Zold was right.
Maria and Michael exchanged a glance, their stares capable of burning the entire room through tension alone.
After everyone calmed down, Morgana decided to finally bring up the topic everybody was here for.
"... The World Elephant. No one can kill it."
She said it like a decision, not a request.
A majestic pressure slowly released from her body, causing everyone’s expression to change.
Morgana swept her eyes over the table, looking over everyone silently.
"Any objections?"
They immediately understood that for her, there was no room for refusal on this topic.
Just as Morgana was about to sigh in relief...
A booming laughter shattered the tense silence.
Everyone paused and shifted their gaze, seeing Michael laugh without restraint.
His laughter echoed in the hall, causing Morgana’s expression to distort.
When his laughter gradually died down, Michael glanced at Morgana with a cold expression.
"Why can’t anyone kill it? What gave you the right to decide?"
Morgana didn’t answer immediately, staring at Michael quietly.
Then, she spoke slowly, as if carefully keeping her composure.
"Michael, this is to make sure that the world adapts to the First Era Ending Calamity first before being thrust into another calamity. My right to decide comes from being a leader of a nation and a member of this team."
Hearing that, Michael scoffed as though he heard the most open lie.
"Do you think we’re fools? Caring about the world? Morgana, we haven’t forgotten what you did. With your nature, you’re probably thinking of killing it for yourself. After all, the reward for that hidden condition is useful for you."
Hearing this, everyone subtly nodded.
"Hmm, I suppose a Queen of a nation..." Nagito dragged, glancing at Maria. "... would find the ability to add any rule in the next Era Ending Calamity useful."
Any rule was a slight exaggeration, but the ability to change or add a rule in a calamity was extremely terrifying, especially for them.
Morgana fell silent.
"... I won’t kill it." She suddenly said.
Michael laughed again, a hint of anger showing in his voice.
"Like I said, how can we trust you? You’re the one who killed the Guardian of Destiny!"
Hearing that, everyone’s expressions changed, even Zold frowned.
Morgana’s fists clenched, her spiritual energy stirring.
In truth, the strongest awakeners of humanity were once 25 during the Seventieth Era Ending Calamity.
Back then, their team wasn’t as solid, and many had conflicts with one another.
But when the Guardian of Destiny, one of the most important figures of humanity, died, everyone realized that they had to cooperate regardless of their feelings.
It was a dark time.
Those who refused to cooperate were killed in the subsequent Era Ending Calamities, and a few of them were killed personally by some of those present.
At that moment, Grisha looked at Michael, his eyes glowing with emotion.
"Beyond, the Guardian of Destiny is a good friend of ours. Morgana never intended for it to happen..."
Michael met Grisha’s gaze directly, sneering.
"I know Belmont personally. How could he enter that place, knowing the danger?! This b*tch definitely had a say on it! She manipul—"
BOOM!
At that moment, a massive dragon appeared above the table.
It seemed incredibly lifelike, its pupils staring at Michael intently.
"A pity... the alliance is useless. I want to kill you myself."
Morgana sighed, as if she was disappointed it had come to this.
"Beyond, you truly are... the most hateful."
At that moment, the world around them shattered, replaced by a frozen world ensnared by endless winter. 𝑓𝘳𝑒𝑒𝓌𝘦𝘣𝘯ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝑚
Everyone’s expression changed, but no one interfered, simply remaining in their positions.
Michael sneered and slapped the dragon away.
The dragon with the power of a Tier I Demon was immediately killed by his casual attack.
But then, the dragon dissolved into embers, entering Michael’s body.
Michaels’s pupils suddenly dilated, sensing the dissolved embers slowly burn him from the inside.
"Is this it?"
He spread out his dark red spiritual energy to his body, using it to put out the growing flame inside him.
But to his surprise, his spiritual energy simply phased through the embers, as if they were both real and fake.
The embers started with his bones, then they spread to his organs.
Michael was expressionless, simply destroying his entire insides to put out the fire.
Bam!
He exploded his spiritual energy inside his body!
But a moment later, his bones and organs regenerated, and his body even showed signs of being stronger than before.
He raised his head and looked for Morgana, who seemed to have vanished from the world.
Michael sneered, raising his hand.
At that moment, a small orb formed from his fingertips.
Terrifyingly, such a small orb contained overwhelming, destructive power.
He pointed it to the sky—
Then, out of the blue, Morgana’s voice echoed in the world.
"Surtr of Ice."
At that moment, a giant’s eye emerged in the sky.
It stared at Michael for a moment—
Then, an endless cold filled Michael’s body, freezing him outside and inside.
Morgana coughed, hurling out blood.
BOOM!
At that moment, a figure among the members moved.
Just before Michael could unleash his attack, this person held his hand, stopping him.
Crack... crack...!
Then, the frozen world shattered!
Before everybody knew it, they were back at the ancient castle.
They shifted their gaze, seeing Zold hold back Michael’s hand.
The two stared at each other in silence.
"Don’t release it." He slowly said.
At that moment, Michael clenched his fists and quickly turned around, punching Zold instead!
BOOM!
The direction of where he attacked caused a massive shockwave!
All the other regressors’ expressions changed, immediately retreating away.
Everyone knew that all of Michael’s attacks contained absolute destruction!
Even mere shockwaves of his attacks could cause those below his strength to explode!
The table immediately shattered, and the entire castle shook!
Whoosh!
Michael lowered his gaze, his smile fading.
As the smoke fizzled away, Zold had vanished.
At that moment, he felt a sudden presence appear on his back, his expression immediately changing.
Zold reinforced his hand with spiritual energy, maximizing the bluntness.
Then, he activated [Onestab].
Before Michael could turn around, his eyes widened in disbelief.
Bam!
A fist hammered into his head.
"...!"
In a split second, Michael’s entire body sank downward!
The floor beneath him caved in, shattering on impact!
The second floor met the same fate!
The third...!
The fourth...!
As he fell through each level of the castle, Michael felt incredibly dizzy.
His vision blurred, blood leaking out from his head.
For a brief moment, his eyes turned white.
Bam!
But when he landed on the ground floor, his consciousness returned.
Michael’s eyes were unfocused, looking above him.
Sixty-five floors caved from the impact of his fall.
But that wasn’t his focus.
On the highest floor, Zold looked down indifferently.
"Remember your place, Michael."
Hearing that, Michael’s eyes regained their focus. His pupils turned dark red, and he roared furiously:
"ZOOLDDDDD STARKSSS!!"
He immediately spread his red spiritual energy in his body, recovering instantly.
Then he stood and leaped.
Woosh!
Michael landed back on the sixty-fifth floor, both of his hands clenched tightly.
But before he could attack, three figures appeared behind him.
One was the Giant God Grisha, towering over him.
Another was the Sword Saintess Maria, her eyes emotionless as they stared him down.
The last was the Immortal Emperor Ye Fang, holding a seemingly ordinary sword aimed at his neck.
Michael’s anger immediately stalled as he faced them.
"You..."
Grisha’s hand landed on his shoulder.
"Enough."
His voice was deep, echoing through the half-destroyed castle.
Hearing that, Michael’s fists loosened, knowing that he stood no chance in this situation.
He clenched his teeth, glancing at Zold.
"This isn’t over yet."
Zold didn’t even bother looking at him.
"You live for another day, Beyond. Why not learn to appreciate it more?"
At that moment, he snapped his fingers, repairing the table and the chairs.
After a few seconds, everyone was back in their seats.
A tense silence emerged, the others still processing what had happened.
Zold had overpowered Michael without any difficulty.
Looking at Zold, his title surfaced in their minds.
’The One Without Equal.’
Whether it was in the past or in the future, Zold remained as the tallest mountain in the group.
After a brief while, Zold glanced at Morgana, speaking quietly.
"Queen, you’ve acted out of line."
Morgana simply closed her eyes, recovering her spiritual energy.
Zold shook his head.
He continued.
"The meeting continues. Queen will compensate Beyond at a later time, if she doesn’t, I’ll make sure she has a reasonable answer."
Hearing that, Morgana’s expression twitched, but she didn’t say anything.
"Hmph." Michael suddenly sneered. He glared at Morgana, feeling incredibly frustrated. "I can handle that on my own... the only problem is if she has anything that can interest me."
Zold spoke slowly. "If the Queen wants to protect Crownreach, she’ll have to find a way."
The implications were obvious.
The others couldn’t help but feel a chill crawl down their spine.
Although Michael liked the idea, considering he had just fought Zold, he simply clicked his tongue.
"..."
Morgana suddenly opened her eyes, looking at Zold deeply.
The two of them stared at each other, causing a tense silence to emerge.
But after a while, Morgana sighed, averting her eyes.
She swept her gaze once more, regaining her composure.
"Any objections?"
But this time, no one said anything.
"Good. No one can kill the World Elephant. Anyone who violates this will be personally hunted down by the other members and me."
Morgana immediately finalized the decision.
But just before she could end the meeting, someone suddenly raised their hand.
The one who raised their hand was Fabian.
Everyone narrowed their eyes, and even Morgana suppressed the impatience in her.
Fabian nodded briefly, sweeping his gaze to everyone at the table.
"Let’s talk first before we each go our separate ways."
The Übermensch rarely expressed his thoughts to others, except in cases of paramount importance to humanity’s survival.
The fact that he proposed a discussion, yet remained silent earlier, meant whatever it was, was far more important than the World Elephant itself.
He spoke slowly.
"Second talents. You all awakened them, right?"
A pin-drop silence suddenly echoed in the room.
Everyone’s expressions changed.
Fabian stopped them before they could reason their way out.
"A few already tried reaching out to me, so don’t bother trying to hide it."
"Why talk about this?" Baldur crossed his arms, frowning. "Nobody is going to reveal their talents."
"No, but isn’t it suspicious we were given another talent?" Fabian asked quietly, catching everyone’s attention.
Certainly, it was suspicious.
But nobody knew why, so they didn’t bother thinking about it.
Since Fabian had brought it up, then perhaps...?
Everyone suddenly turned serious. Even Zold had a deep frown on his face.
"Talents can only be taken when an Awakener dies," Fabian said as he tapped the table. "This also applies to other spiritual beings, not just animals."
Everyone knew this.
Spirit Orbs didn’t just form in monster corpses, but humans and other lifeforms as well.
It was just that no one outside knew about it yet, and none of them here wanted to release that dangerous information to the world as of now.
"It’s impossible for these new talents to be ours, they would’ve awakened at some point in our previous life."
Fabian reasoned calmly.
"Then, they can only be from someone else. An awakened lifeform that already died, and then someone planted them in our souls."
Lofas narrowed her eyes. "Are you saying that each of our new talents came from a different lifeform? But..."
But before she could continue, she suddenly stopped.
"But they’re too strong, aren’t they?" Fabian smiled, guessing her thoughts. "But don’t forget, our universe isn’t the only one that went through the Ninety-Nine Era Ending Calamities."
"If our race only has a few S-rank or beyond S-rank talents," he continued. "Other universes might have more than us."
Morgana couldn’t help but ask. "But... who planted them? Why didn’t we notice? No... more importantly, how could they obtain these talents? All the universes other than ours are already gone."
In one of the Era Ending Calamities, they had learned that other universes besides theirs existed before.
They were also subjected to the Ninety-Nine Era Ending Calamities, perishing in the cycle.
"Now you’re asking the right questions. Ten points for that."
Fabian nodded in approval. Then, he paused, sweeping his gaze over the table, and spoke slowly.
"... I’m not sure. I still need to investigate this before telling you what I found. I’m only telling all of this now since all of you seem ready to kill each other."
He clicked his tongue in distaste, looking at everyone with disdain.
"Anyway, this proves that somebody is helping us behind the scenes, wanting to see us complete the Ninety Nine Era Ending Calamities."
"Taking that into consideration..."
At that moment,Maria finished for him, her eyes shining.
"We’d only be wasting that person’s efforts if we fight against each other."
Fabian gave a brief nod, smiling slightly.
"That’s right. So think twice about your actions, everyone. Use your second talents wisely."
Everyone couldn’t help but fall silent, feeling mixed emotions.
The tense mood from earlier had suddenly vanished, replaced by a sense of ease.
Zold glanced at Fabian, nodding slightly.
Fabian understood human psychology more than anyone he ever knew. If the man wished, he could even convince everyone in the world he was God.
But deep inside, he couldn’t help but feel puzzled.
’Didn’t they see the Apostle’s smile?’
However, as no one brought it up, Zold kept it to his heart.
"... Think twice..."
Maria muttered, her lips turning dry.
Her shoulders suddenly felt heavier.
