Ghost Exorciser: The Oust Fake Heiress Strikes-Chapter 379: Problems
Soon, Lana arrived at the City Lord’s office, where Hunter worked.
However, before meeting Hunter, she was first brought to meet the mayor of the city.
Magnus.
When Magnus saw Lana, he was momentarily stunned.
When he had first heard about Lana’s investment, he had imagined her as some wealthy middle-aged woman approaching her late forties.
Someone experienced. Someone mature.
But the young woman standing before him now looked like she had barely reached her twenties.
However, Magnus was an experienced man who had dealt with many situations in life.
His surprise disappeared almost instantly. A polite smile appeared on his face.
"Welcome."
He gestured for her to follow him inside.
Once inside the office, Lana looked around and nodded appreciatively.
Hunter’s office was extremely clean and organized.
The documents were neatly arranged.
The shelves were tidy.
From just a single glance, it was obvious that Hunter was someone who valued order and discipline.
At that moment, Hunter noticed her arrival.
He immediately stood up with a smile.
Hunter was a tall man with broad shoulders and muscular arms and legs. His strong build gave him a naturally intimidating aura.
At first glance, many people might even find him slightly frightening.
To Lana, however, Hunter looked nothing like an intimidating man.
In her eyes, he was almost her idol.
In her previous life, she had learned about the countless battles he had fought.
Now that she was seeing him in person, the admiration inside her heart surged uncontrollably.
’So this is the man who built Hedge City...’
Her eyes shone with excitement.
Meanwhile, Hunter carefully observed Lana.
When he realized that Lana was not looking at him with fear or hesitation, he became even more pleased.
Normally, children and young people were terrified of him.
His tall frame, muscular body, and naturally fierce expression often frightened them to the point that they avoided speaking with him altogether.
Because of that, he rarely had the opportunity to interact casually with younger people.
But this girl... She looked straight at him without any fear.
Hunter felt a faint warmth in his chest. ’What a brave child.’
Lana stepped forward and extended her hand with a bright smile.
"Hello. My name is Lana."
Hunter was slightly puzzled: why did she not mention her surname?
However, he did not question it openly. Instead, he extended his own hand and shook hers firmly.
"Hunter Travis."
Lana nodded politely before sitting across from him.
Hunter turned slightly and gestured toward his subordinates. "Bring some tea."
The subordinates immediately left the room.
Once they were gone, only Mayor Magnus remained inside the office along with several Exoray, the Celestial Master, and Hunter himself.
Lana glanced toward the Exoray and the Celestial Master before calmly speaking.
"You may leave."
The Exoray and Celestial Master exchanged uneasy glances. Their expressions clearly showed hesitation.
It was obvious that they were worried about leaving Lana alone with Hunter and Magnus.
Magnus and Hunter noticed their reactions, yet neither of them felt offended in the slightest.
They understood the situation perfectly.
Leaving a young girl alone with two unfamiliar men in an unfamiliar city would naturally make any bodyguard uneasy.
Moreover, the number of Exoray and Celestial Masters accompanying Lana made something very clear.
She must be extremely valued by her family.
And if Lana could casually invest four hundred million dollars into a developing city, then the family behind her must be terrifyingly wealthy.
’She must be one of those spoiled daughters from a powerful family...’
Hunter thought quietly.
’Otherwise, how could someone so young control such wealth?’
To him, Lana was clearly someone who had grown up being protected and cherished.
Therefore, he had no intention of questioning her decisions.
Lana glanced sharply at the Exoray.
The single glare was enough. They immediately understood her intention.
Reluctantly, they began to leave the room.
Just before exiting, one of them quietly slipped a small button into Lana’s hand.
Lana gave a faint nod.
Hunter and Magnus both noticed the subtle exchange. However, neither of them mentioned it.
They simply pretended not to notice. Soon the room fell silent.
Only Lana, Hunter, and Magnus remained. Magnus hesitated slightly.
’Should I leave?’
Hunter and Magnus knew that they were close to each other.
But outsiders did not.
Hardly any people knew that he was actually Hunter’s closest friend.
If Lana misunderstood their relationship, it could create unnecessary complications.
’What if she asks me to leave because she doesn’t trust me?’
Magnus silently prepared himself.
But to his surprise, Lana never asked him to leave.
Instead, she looked directly at Hunter with a slightly troubled expression.
"Have you encountered any problems while developing this city?"
Hunter and Magnus exchanged a quick glance.
Hunter then smiled calmly.
"Did Ms. Lana hear some kind of rumor?"
His words were extremely clever.
Instead of directly addressing the issue, he subtly framed it as if Lana had been misled by unreliable gossip.
Lana chuckled softly. "I came here to have a serious conversation."
Her tone remained gentle, but her words carried undeniable weight.
"I invested four hundred million dollars into this city."
She leaned back slightly.
"I am not planning to watch that investment disappear down the drain."
Hunter raised an eyebrow slightly.
Lana continued calmly.
"If I want my investment to succeed, then I should also be willing to support it."
Her gaze remained steady.
"Even if the city is facing problems right now, I would rather get involved and help instead of walking away."
Hunter and Magnus looked at each other again.
Neither of them had expected this.
When Lana first asked if she could visit the city, Hunter had immediately grown worried.
He assumed she wanted to inspect the development progress.
And that thought had troubled him deeply.
The city was still struggling with many difficulties.
If she saw the current state of things, she might lose confidence and withdraw her investment.
However, refusing her visit was not an option either.
If he refused, she might suspect that something was wrong and withdraw her funds anyway.
So he had reluctantly agreed.
