Ghost Exorciser: The Oust Fake Heiress Strikes-Chapter 102: Family
Lana could still remember the horror of those days.
When she was first accused, Lana had tried to defend herself. She was never a person who went down without a fight.
However, Lana’s drafts and other proof vanished into thin air.
Desperate to prove her innocence, Lana bit the bullet and proposed a competition.
She thought as long as she used the knowledge she had gained from repeated failure of her master stroke... she would apply it and even prepared certain weapon blueprints in her mind.
Though they won’t be feasible, Lana guessed that a first draft of the weapon design would be enough to win against Cassandra.
On the day of the competition, Lana presented her design, but to her horror, her designs were already patented by someone else (Cassandra).
Worse... someone had modified it, and it was even slightly better than what she had imagined...
Lana still remembered the chilling smile on Cassandra’s face. And those gentle whispers by Cassandra, "Lana, did you like my gift?"
Unwilling to back down, Lana proposed a live competition. Her mind had already grasped the key points. Somehow... Cassandra was able to see the design in her mind.
So Lana even emptied her mind while drawing the designs. Yet even then... Cassandra was able to finish the drawing before Lana.
In the 2nd round, Lana even drew the wrong design and asked to change it after submitting.
Who would have thought... the design would still end up the same?
In the end... with the Almond family’s efforts and Cassandra’s scheme... Lana was painted as a plagiarist and kicked out of the university.
Her ruined reputation forced Lana to never be able to take the job of weapon designing till she met Lucian, who had used some means to make sure Lana’s weapon design blueprint could never be accessible to Cassandra.
But was Lana scared just because of these strange events? The answer was no.
What scared Lana was... how quickly a person may change...
In her past life, when Lana had confronted Cassandra and asked why Cassandra betrayed her, she received a chilling reply.
"Did you forget? I let you live in my house and let you eat my food for a year straight! You should consider it as a payment for the work I have taken away from you! Also! It was I who had taken a stand for you against the Almond family. So be grateful."
Lana could only feel the reality that she had lived till now... was nothing but a facade...
Cassandra, who once defended her fiercely... it was all because of profits.
A part of Lana disagreed even now... even when she had seen the disgusting face of Cassandra in her last life.
"Mr. Crow... I feel exhausted... Let’s not go back anywhere today... I am not in a state to fool others with my fake cheerful smile." Lana murmured.
The constant mask of sweetness had drained Lana’s patience, and today... Cassandra’s strange behavior made Lana remember the beautiful life she once had.
A beautiful home with three loving brothers. A best friend who treated her like she was a treasure.
And a successful career...
She once had everything... everything a human could wish for...
Though there was a certain haunting reality to her happiness, Lana was still satisfied.
She had people backing her up and never had to think about the possibility of danger approaching her.
Now... she was living like a rat.
She doesn’t have brothers, parents... or friends.
How did everything change so much? When did she start to lose others?
Was it her mistake?
’No, Lana... the world could be mistaken, but not you. You have to trust in yourself... even if no one does!’ She comforted, but it was already too late.
Her heart was beating like the hooves of a horse. Thud! Thud!
And Lana started to feel as if someone had knocked the air out of her lungs.
"Hu...Uhh..." Lana tried to desperately inhale breath while the scene in front of her started to blur.
"Lana! Lana! Wake up! What happened?" Mr. Crow’s desperate voice pierced through Lana’s chaotic mind, and a sense of clarity washed over her.
No... she wasn’t alone... she has Mr. Crow now... and he is her lifetime companion now!
’Lana, get a grip! Everything is fine! Everything will work out well in this life! Take deep breaths! Yes!’ The rare clarity made the frantic Lana calm down, and she closed her eyes in exhaustion.
"Lana? Are you alright?" "Mr. Crow?" he asked, his voice cracked toward the end, while his body was trembling.
The strong anxiety in Lana’s heart had hit him hard. If Mr. Crow had to name it, he would call it the worst feeling ever.
His heart was restless, and a wave of disorientation had washed over him.
All because of the link he had with Lana. Those feelings that he experienced were only the excess amount of feelings Lana couldn’t control.
Just 10% of what Lana was suffering. He didn’t dare imagine how Lana might have felt when her anxiety attack hit her.
With his trembling wings, he caressed Lana’s head and whispered, "You did so well. How brave. My master is the best."
The trips dripped from Mr. Crow’s beady eyes, while hatred and resentment started to brew in his heart.
Looking at Lana, who looked scared and vulnerable, Mr. Crow realized... she had slimmed down a lot.
’Why hasn’t she gained weight even though she eats her dinner and lunch on time?’ Pity surged in his heart while Lana, who had calmed down till now, remained silent.
Just when Mr. Crow thought Lana would say something, a cold hand slowly picked him up from the shoulder, and the next second he was enveloped in a warm embrace.
"Thank you, Mr. Crow..."
Mr. Crow’s stiffened body relaxed, and he nuzzled against Lana’s shoulder with a slight smile. "I am your contracted beast, remember?"
"No... You are my family..." Lana’s voice was laced with vulnerability Mr. Crow had never heard before.
