Gasp! She's a Time Traveler Using Modern Tech to Improve Ancient Life-Chapter 348 - 45: Finding a Cutter for the Rough Stones
After Chen Jinyu’s call ruined her mood, Lin Wanwan decided not to continue enjoying the view.
Just then, the doorbell rang, and the property management delivered the fresh groceries for the day. A bag of live shrimp, a vacuum-packed slice of imported salmon, a radish, two potatoes, and a piece of imported steak.
Lin Wanwan looked over the groceries and smiled, saying, "Why don’t we cook dinner together tonight? I can handle the shrimp and salmon."
Lu Shouyue had no objections, so the two of them headed into the Chinese kitchen and started washing the vegetables to prepare dinner.
Both of them had average cooking skills, which made preparing dinner quite an effort.
Lu Shouyue was the type who followed the recipe step by step, using a food scale to measure the ingredients precisely, just as he did when making pizza.
Lin Wanwan, on the other hand, was more of an intuitive cook. She would envision a dish in her mind and make it accordingly, adding the ingredients as she saw fit. For the shrimp, she would just pour in some water and salt, boil it, and then remove the water; the salmon was simply pan-fried with a little oil and some salt before serving.
The good thing about seafood is that even if your cooking skills aren’t great, steaming it to enjoy its natural flavor is usually enough, and it won’t taste bad.
This is why Lin Wanwan doesn’t like eating freshwater fish; without the right cooking skills, freshwater fish can have a muddy taste and be quite unpalatable.
By the time dinner was ready, the sun was setting.
The sunset was breathtakingly beautiful, leaving one entranced just by looking at it.
The two of them brought the dishes to the large 40-square-meter terrace table made of weather-resistant wood, opened a bottle of wine they started yesterday, and enjoyed the scenery in the breeze, making even these simple homemade dishes seem delicious.
"The atmosphere during meals really does matter!" Lin Wanwan said with a smile, raising her glass.
"Ding!" 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
Lu Shouyue gently clinked glasses with her, agreeing, "Today’s sunset is beautiful. Let’s hope we have such beautiful sights to enjoy every day."
After taking a sip of wine, Lin Wanwan began to dig into the steak and potatoes, a dish meticulously prepared by Lu Shouyue following a recipe.
For Lin Wanwan, used to Hua Nong’s cooking, it wasn’t exactly top-notch, but it wasn’t bad either; it was edible.
Considering it was Lu Shouyue’s first time making this dish, it showed he had some culinary talent.
"Mr. Lu, you live in Hai City with such a beautiful view. Doesn’t it feel much different in Yongcheng? Do you all live at Buzhou Studio?"
Buzhou Studio also has a great view, but after all, it’s not a residential area, which makes it inconvenient.
Lu Shouyue replied, "Occasionally at Buzhou Studio, but I spend most of the time at Sea View Mansion in Three Rivers Confluence. It’s also a panoramic river view apartment, though not a duplex, and about half the size of this place."
"Oh." Lin Wanwan nodded, saying, "Half the size is still nearly 300 square meters, which is quite large. My small villa has a land area of 129 square meters, and together with the upper and lower floors, it’s only 258 square meters.
There’s also a small attic on the third floor, not included in the property area. My grandparents used to store things there, and so do I now. I’ve never really managed it. It feels like it’s already big enough for one person to live in; there’s no real need for the attic."
Lu Shouyue chuckled, "True. In fact, the most frequently used rooms in a house are the master bedroom with a bathroom and the living room with a study. The rest aren’t used much."
The two chatted about houses for a while, and the alfresco dinner came to an end.
After tidying up, they put the dishes into the dishwasher. Lin Wanwan sighed, "This sink-style dishwasher is really convenient. I should get one when I get back."
"It is quite good; you should consider it."
Although Lin Wanwan hardly cooked at home, preferring to travel back to the Great Tang to enjoy a life of leisure, now that she had money, such a dishwasher that cleaned, disinfected, and dried dishes was indeed very useful, much more so than her current simple sterilizing cabinet.
She could even take her and Qingyu’s dishes back to the modern era for cleaning and disinfection once every few days!
After dinner, Lu Shouyue read ancient texts while Lin Wanwan sat at the computer searching for partners in jewelry cutting.
The cut of a gemstone can give it a second life, directly impacting its visual appeal and value.
The current cutting technology in the Great Tang cannot compare to the modern era due to differences in overall industrial levels, so Lin Wanwan definitely needed to find a partner in the present day.
Unfortunately, the information online was not reliable, with too much truth mixed with falsehood, making it hard to discern.
Eventually, through a flagship store, she managed to contact some jewelry companies, and after adding them on WeChat, they all requested her to send the rough stones for verification first.
How could she trust that? What if they swapped them with something else? The level of forgery in modern times is so high that Lin Wanwan couldn’t tell the difference.
Moreover, if such a thing happened, claiming her rights would be difficult. After all, if she went to court, she couldn’t provide evidence of gem provenance.
If she had known earlier during the gem gambling, she would have also bought some rough stones, regardless of whether they increased or not, just to have a source.
Still, better late than never, Lin Wanwan quickly searched for raw materials online. They couldn’t be too expensive, or else she’d lose money; nor too cheap, or they’d be obviously fake.
While she was diligently selecting and pondering, Lu Shouyue heated a cup of milk, approached, and said, "Have a glass of hot milk; it’ll help you sleep at night."
Lin Wanwan looked up and accepted it: "Thank you, Mr. Lu."
Lu Shouyue noticed Lin Wanwan doodling on an A4 paper, curiously asking, "Wanwan, what are you looking for? You seem to be having a hard time from your furrowed brow. Tell me, maybe I can help."
Lin Wanwan pondered for a moment; Lu Shouyue certainly had resources. When auctioning the handwritten copy of "High Mountain and Flowing Water" by Xiao Chong, she had looked into Lu Shouyue’s auction house, which had ranked among the top ten in the world in the past five years.
Initially, Lin Wanwan had considered finding another reliable partner since it’s wise not to rely solely on one source and to have alternatives.
But now, Lin Wanwan changed her mind. Since their partnership was going well and Lu Shouyue had good character, why should she switch? Finding another partner would mean building trust from scratch, which isn’t easy.
After taking a sip of milk and drafting in her mind, Lin Wanwan explained, "Here’s the situation: I have a few rough gemstones, and I’d like to find an experienced jeweler to cut them for me."
Lu Shouyue chuckled, "If you look for the right person, you can solve this problem easily. Such a person is just nearby."
Lin Wanwan playfully covered her mouth and asked, "Are you saying, Mr. Lu, that you also deal in gemstones?"
"My auction house recently sold quite a few gemstones in the spring auction. In this area, coming to me means you won’t be cheated. Wanwan, you don’t think my auction house only deals in antiques, do you?"
Lin Wanwan pretended not to know, cooperating by saying, "Oh, I guess I’m really out of touch, then."
