Chapter 84: Chapter 47: The Soul Mark Disappeared

"Why is there a red mark on your neck?" It couldn’t be a birthmark. Sang Luo had never seen it on him before; it only appeared after she used her energy. Seeing the strange aura emanating from the red mark, she suddenly had a bad feeling.

’Could Caesar’s strange behavior these past few days be related to this?’

Caesar immediately checked it with his spiritual power, his expression instantly darkening. "Sangsang, you’ve done me a huge favor."

"What is it?"

Seeing his expression was darker than she had ever seen, Sang Luo became even more certain of her guess.

"A Shared Devouring Curse," Caesar said in a low voice. "It’s a form of High-level Magic from the East Continent. It can assimilate the victim’s mind and body without them even realizing it. If we had discovered it any later, I would have been completely transformed into someone else."

Sang Luo recalled how, over the past few days, he had been watching her with a subtle, cold scrutiny... She couldn’t help but shudder.

When she and Caesar had been intimate just now, she had subconsciously detected this unusual aura. She never expected to have stumbled upon it and averted a disaster. ’To think that the man I share my bed with night after night could suddenly be replaced by a stranger’s soul... It’s utterly terrifying!’

She let go of him and sighed. "Can you be saved?"

Caesar tapped her on the head, raising an eyebrow with a smile. "Remember that new Talent Ability you acquired? Want to give it a try?"

Sang Luo remembered what he had said about its Purification use. ’In theory, it really should work!’

Caesar pulled her onto his lap. Eager to try, Sang Luo summoned a sliver of silvery-white power to her palm and gently placed it over the Curse Seal on his neck.

A thin layer of sweat soon beaded on her forehead. As if sensing the threatening power, the scarlet Curse Seal hidden beneath the skin trembled like a living thing, squirming as it tried to flee elsewhere.

Sang Luo quickly formed a barrier with her Space Power to block it. Then, with a sudden burst of force, the Curse Seal was stripped from Caesar’s skin.

Caesar raised his hand, trapping the Curse Seal and letting it hover above his palm.

He didn’t destroy it right away.

"The caster also has a Spirit Control System Talent Ability, and their power is on par with my own." That was why he hadn’t noticed it in time. He had a pretty good idea who was responsible, though.

If that person could curse him, he could certainly return the favor.

"Sangsang, I need to go into seclusion for a few days. Take care of yourself. You can summon me anytime if you need anything."

...

Caesar vanished without a trace. No one knew where he had gone for his seclusion.

Sang Luo felt a little empty for the first two days, but she slowly got used to it. Life went on as usual.

In the past couple of days, Little Bai had packed her bags and was ready to leave.

Sang Luo gave her some money for her journey.

Little Bai had secretly saved up a little money behind her family’s back, but it definitely wasn’t enough to open a shop.

At first, Little Bai blushed, too embarrassed to accept. But Sang Luo insisted, so she had no choice but to take it. Moved beyond words, she hugged Sang Luo and said, "My Lady! Consider this money your investment! I’ll definitely earn lots of Crystal Stones for you!"

Sang Luo laughed. "Alright, I’ll be waiting for that day. Just don’t lose my investment."

It was meant as a joke, but unexpectedly, the young woman really did grow her investment later on—and by a huge margin.

Of course, that was a story for another time.

「One night.」

A tall, burly, and sinister figure appeared in the room.

Sang Luo awoke with a start.

’It’s the Old Beast King!’

"Come with me."

Egarli Yalan’s eyes were filled with savage hostility as he reached out to grab Sang Luo.

’The method that damn envoy from the East Continent suggested was completely useless! Caesar wasn’t affected at all; in fact, it had only angered him. The false peace between them was completely shattered!’

Caesar controlled nearly half of the Empire’s military forces, a contingent that would completely ignore the Beast King’s commands. The next step would be a rebellion, a coup!

The Beast King had lost his patience. He decided to kidnap Sang Luo directly and use her to threaten Caesar.

As he lunged for her, Sang Luo quickly rolled off the bed. She gathered a bolt of Thunder Power and struck the Beast King, but it didn’t even leave a scratch.

Her face paled. She tried to use her Space Transmission Ability, but an invisible power had already sealed the entire area. There was no escape.

The Beast King’s patience ran out. His hand transformed into a beast’s claw, and an attack carrying the full power of a King Beast Peak shot toward her—

’Is he trying to kill me!?’

If Sang Luo died, Caesar’s power would be drastically reduced, dropping him by at least one major realm.

The power stored within the Soul Mark blocked the attack. In that same instant, Caesar appeared, shielding Sang Luo with his body.

"Egarli Yalan, let’s settle all our scores, new and old!"

His eyes were filled with cold, murderous intent. He cast an Array to envelop Sang Luo, and then he and the Beast King vanished in an instant.

...

The winds howled and the sky went dark.

High above the forest, two terrifying energies collided, forming a nearly tangible shockwave that swept out for miles, crushing everything in its path.

The entire forest was razed to the ground. Countless Star Beasts were instantly vaporized. It was like the end of the world.

Caesar wielded his Red and White Bone Sword. He slashed open his wrist, and blood coiled up the blade. The entire Bone Sword drank the blood, turning crimson. His dark purple spiritual power materialized, and his strength soared to the level of a King Beast Peak!

The Beast King was covered in wounds, his expression utterly grim. He had suspected Caesar was hiding his strength, but he’d never imagined his talent was so formidable that he could nearly reach the King Beast Peak in his twenties! Soul-crushing jealousy consumed him. His eyes turned crimson as he ground his teeth. "I should have just killed you back then, instead of bringing you back!"

Caesar sneered. "Your schemes were the cause. Your own destruction is the effect."

The Beast King was no benevolent soul. He had coveted Caesar’s bloodline back then, bringing him back only to draw his blood every month to refine into elixirs for his own consumption. Only after discovering it yielded no results did he decide to tame him instead.

Caesar remembered it all with perfect clarity.

Caesar had planned to settle things with the Beast King for good after everything with Sangsang was stable, but he never imagined the man would dare to go after her behind his back.

In this battle, one of them had to die!

Both fighting at their peak, they battled for an unknown length of time until, with a single strike of his sword, Egarli Yalan beheaded Caesar.

Egarli Yalan’s eyes lit up with wild joy. But in the next instant, a sudden cold pierced his abdomen. A blood-red Bone Sword had run him through from behind before being ripped sideways.

It all happened so fast. The maniacal laugh hadn’t even faded from his face before his body was torn in two, a gory mess of flesh and blood.

’How...?’

Having utterly slain the Old Beast King, Caesar retracted his sword and landed. He recalled his Spiritual Illusion Power and staggered back two steps, clutching his chest. His face was deathly pale as he coughed up a large mouthful of blood.

He had overloaded his spiritual power, and his body was on the verge of collapse, weakened to an extreme degree.

The mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind.

A figure in a hooded cloak had, at some point, appeared silently behind him.

Wielding a golden Longsword, they thrust it through his chest.

Caesar looked down, his eyes filled with disbelief. "It’s you..."

The figure whispered,

"You may rest in peace now..."

SQUELCH! The Longsword was pulled out, staining the ground with blood.

Flames consumed the entire forest, burning everything to ash.

...

A sharp pain suddenly stabbed through Sang Luo’s heart. The Array around her silently dissipated.

As if sensing something, she slowly pulled open her clothes with trembling hands. The Soul Mark on her chest—was gone.

Her heart felt empty, as if a huge piece had been torn away.

She was suddenly overcome with the urge to cry.

An inexplicable sorrow overwhelmed her, and Sang Luo began to sob uncontrollably.

She cried until her tears ran dry and her voice grew hoarse. When she could no longer make a sound, her vision went black. Just before she fainted, she was caught in a warm, dry, broad embrace.

Duotu had arrived with his troops and now held Sang Luo in his arms.

She grabbed his arm.

"Caesar..."

Duotu was silent for a moment before saying in a low voice, "Beast King Egarli Yalan and Caesar... have both fallen."

"...What about the bodies?"

"That forest was burned to the ground. Nothing is left."

Duotu brought Sang Luo back to the palace. She was calm the entire way—so unnaturally calm that it worried him even more.

"I promise, I’ll send more people to search. I’ll let you know the second we have news, alright?"

"Okay."

Duotu looked like he wanted to say more, but seeing her haggard and pale face, he held his tongue. He instructed the servants to take good care of her, then strode out of the palace.

When he finished his duties the next day and rushed back to the palace, he found that she was gone.
