Future Beast World: Becoming A Pampered Beauty-Chapter 359 - 298: He’s No Pushover Either
Wu Jing’s face fell, and he snorted. "My thanks to the South Sea Sea King for his concern, but it’s entirely unnecessary!"
He had no intention of starting a war with the South Sea right now.
"Forget it. I’ll do you a favor. This Emperor will dispatch a team to personally escort your cargo ship out of the Central Sea."
Si Ye crossed his arms and threw the words right back at him. "My thanks to the Sea Emperor of the Central Sea for his concern, but it’s entirely unnecessary. We’ll be thanking the heavens as long as no petty villains try to hijack our cargo on the way."
Wu Jing’s expression soured. Left speechless, he turned and left with his men.
"Wu Jing is a treacherous, greedy, and cunning man. I suspected he’d come to cause trouble, so I came to lend a hand."
"Thank you. This wasn’t your responsibility."
"Anything concerning the East Continent is Luoluo’s business, and anything that’s Luoluo’s business is my business."
"Heh, true enough." Si Ye’s gaze drifted to a figure on deck still moving cargo with the Beastmen. A brief smile touched his lips before fading. He frowned and asked, "Are the sea regions also severely affected? I thought the Disaster Beasts were mostly concentrated on land."
"The seas are just as turbulent. The South Sea, however, is unique. It’s protected by barriers erected by generations of King Sharks. I’ve already sealed it off. These defenses can ward off not only Demon Beasts but also Disaster Beasts. As long as no cataclysmic-level Disaster Beast appears, the South Sea should be able to weather the storm unscathed. It’s just... the other inhabitants of the sea regions..."
A thought seemed to occur to Lou Xianyue, and he smiled faintly. "The Central Sea is at the center of everything, so it’s been hit the hardest. The South Sea is, of course, willing to help its people through this crisis. If Wu Jing insists on being stubborn, I’ll personally lead my forces to sweep away any obstacles."
Si Ye smirked. ’This Merman isn’t nearly as harmless as he looks,’ he thought. ’He just keeps his claws sheathed around Luoluo.’
The two of them returned to the cargo ship.
The damaged deck and hull had been repaired, and all the cargo was back in its place. Not a single box was missing.
"Ah Ze, you’re here too." Sang Luo turned, and a happy smile spread across her face when she saw the two of them approaching.
"Yes, I was worried about you, so I came to see." With a mere thought, Lou Xianyue summoned Little Carp into his arms. Little Blue Eucalyptus was in a lesson with his tutor, so he hadn’t been brought along.
"I’m craving fish soup tonight. How about Mommy takes Little Carp fishing?" Sang Luo said, taking her soft, sweet-smelling little daughter from his arms.
"Okay~"
Sang Luo went to the stern of the ship. She casually pulled a fishing rod from her storage space, didn’t even bother with bait, and simply cast the line. Her strategy was simple: whoever was willing could take the hook.
Unsurprisingly, after a long while, she hadn’t gotten a single bite.
Little Carp grabbed the fishing rod in her mother’s hands. "Mommy, let me help you fish."
"Okay, thank you, sweetie."
Sang Luo held her daughter in her lap, watching her stare intently at the water below without blinking. She was unbearably cute.
She hadn’t really planned on catching anything; she was just having fun with her daughter and strengthening their bond. To her surprise, only a moment later, they actually caught a fish—a huge Spanish mackerel half the height of a person.
She quickly took out a large bucket to put it in.
A second one... then a third...
In less time than it takes to drink a cup of tea, fat fish were biting the hook one after another, until the bucket was overflowing.
’There’s no challenge to this at all!’
Any real angler would weep at the sight!
"Alright, alright, that’s more than enough for dinner tonight," Sang Luo said, quickly telling her daughter to stop.
Si Ye came over to help heft the bucket. "You actually caught something... And this many?"
"It’s all thanks to my daughter, Little Carp!"
"Haha, you definitely didn’t give her that nickname for nothing. Little Carp indeed."
"Uncle Little Ye, hold me~" Little Carp said, her eyes sparkling as she looked up at Si Ye.
It was a sight that could melt the heart of even a great Male Beast.
Si Ye effortlessly hefted the bucket with one hand while taking Little Carp from Sang Luo’s arms with the other. The little girl happily wrapped her arms around his neck and said in her sweet little voice, "I love Uncle Little Ye!"
Lou Xianyue’s handsome face darkened at the sight.
Sang Luo howled with laughter. She walked over, patted his shoulder, and consoled him, "There, there. So your daughter’s been stolen away, what’s the big deal? You can just go steal Ah Ye’s daughter. Little Zhenzhen adores you!"
’...’ ’She has a point there.’
Little Zhenzhen was very fond of Lou Xianyue, while Little Carp was particularly attached to Si Ye.
During their month at sea, Si Ye continued to receive pleas for help from various places. The number of Disaster Beasts was growing.
Si Ye and Lou Xianyue joined forces to deal with the Disaster Beasts, while Sang Luo took on the job of dispatching aid. She and the Beastmen from the ship distributed relief supplies to the people in the various disaster-stricken regions.
One day, while holding her child on the outskirts of a city, Sang Luo was stopped by a voice.
"Sang Luo?!"
The female’s voice was shocked and hesitant, as if she couldn’t quite believe her eyes.
Sang Luo turned to see a female in coarse linen clothes, a common sight in the tribes and small cities. She wore a headscarf, carried a vegetable basket, and had a few little cubs trailing at her feet. She looked to be in her thirties. From the fine lines around her eyes, it was clear she’d seen years of hard labor with little time for pampering, but her complexion was rosy and healthy, and she radiated vitality.
The female hurried over, her voice filled with excitement. "It really is you! I never thought I’d see you again."
Sang Luo was taken aback for a moment. Staring at the female’s vaguely familiar face, the memory slowly returned. "Ayia, it’s you."
She was a female from the tribe whom Sang Luo had been on good terms with years ago. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Eight years had passed in a flash. Ayia was now approaching middle age, a departure from the beautiful young woman she once was, which was why Sang Luo hadn’t recognized her at first glance.
"What’s wrong? Don’t you recognize me anymore?" Ayia teased with a smile.
"Of course I do. Is Kemu still with you? How is his leg? Has it acted up again since then?"
"He’s as strong as an ox! Not a single thing wrong with him. He went out to spread fertilizer in the fields this morning and should be back any minute. And look, these are the cubs we had just last rainy season."
"That’s wonderful!" Sang Luo said, picking up a little leopard cub. "So cute. He takes after you."
Ayia laughed as well. "I almost didn’t recognize you myself just now. We’ve both gotten on in years, but you haven’t changed one bit. You’re still as young and beautiful as ever."
"You flatter me. And you’re not old at all. Don’t say that about yourself. To me, you don’t look much different from how you did back then."
"Haha, you’re just trying to make me feel good!"
"Ayia!"
A middle-aged male approached with a young man. He froze when he saw Sang Luo, utterly astonished. "I’m not seeing things, am I?"
"You’re not seeing things, it’s Luoluo! I told you my left eye was twitching all morning. I knew something good was going to happen! Luoluo, why don’t you come over to our place for a meal?"
"Thank you for the kind offer, but I’m afraid I can’t. I have to oversee the transport of the goods into the city and the distribution of food to the victims. I’ll be leaving in a couple of days."
"So when the Beastmen from the City Lord’s office said a beautiful female was distributing supplies... that was you!" Kemu and Ayia were so surprised they were at a loss for words.
They couldn’t imagine what Sang Luo had gone through over the years, but they also knew it wasn’t their place to pry.
"By the way, didn’t you two use to live in the Thousand Elephant Tribe? When did you move here?" Sang Luo asked casually as they walked back toward the city.
