Chapter 317: Chapter 256: A Long-Lost Familiarity...

Sang Luo returned to the hall.

She was speechless for a moment, looking at the fruit pits scattered on the floor.

She had only been gone for a short while, but the room was a mess. Vanessa was lying on the bed, stretching comfortably. "This bed in the Holy Hall is so soft and big. I slept so well. It would be wonderful if I were the one chosen. How could that outsider female possibly be worthy..."

Seeing Sang Luo enter, she didn’t bother hiding her contempt, having completely dropped the act. "You, go clean that up. I’ve waited on you for so many days; it’s your turn to wait on me."

Sang Luo used a Cleaning Technique to tidy up the room in an instant.

Seeing how obedient she was, Vanessa grew even more audacious. "Come here. Massage my legs, and then fetch me a basin of water to wash my feet!"

With a raise of her hand, Sang Luo summoned a silver basin, which instantly filled with Water. She then snapped her fingers, and a lick of flame shot from her fingertip to heat it. Wisps of steam soon rose from the water’s surface.

Vanessa was surprised, and a little jealous. "Your Talent Ability is quite useful."

The moment she dipped her foot in, she shrieked.

"AHH!"

Vanessa scrambled off the bed, accidentally knocking over the basin. Scalding hot water drenched her legs and feet, making her scream and yelp in pain. She rushed out to get a basin of cold water, which finally soothed the burning sensation on her skin.

Her calves and feet were bright red from the burn. After a short while, the skin swelled up and turned a sickly white. She hastily took out an ointment and applied it, finally managing to save her skin. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

She started cursing. "You! Were you trying to scald me to death?!"

Sang Luo replied, "My apologies. I’ve never waited on anyone before. I’ll be more careful next time."

Vanessa shot Sang Luo a vicious glare. ’As if there’ll be a next time.’ She had wanted to put Sang Luo in her place, but she ended up being the one who was played.

"From now on, this room is mine. You can sleep in the room next door," Vanessa declared, her chin held high.

The side room next door was meant for attending servants. She was deliberately trying to humiliate Sang Luo.

Sang Luo asked, "Is this how the Holy Hall treats a bride?"

"A bride? Hah!" Vanessa sneered, full of self-righteousness. "You don’t really think you’re going to climb into the Saint Heir’s bed, do you?"

"Oh? Didn’t the Holy Hall capture me so I could bear children for the Saint Heir?"

The mockery in Vanessa’s eyes deepened. "Let me be honest with you. The Saint Heir’s mating season is approaching, which is the best time to conceive. All the major families have sent their most beautiful young females with the highest Fertility. You’re just one of the candidates!"

"The other Holy Female candidates are all females from the Angel Clan. You, on the other hand, are just an outsider."

"I bet you don’t know this, but Pure-blood Angels are noble and arrogant. To ensure their bloodline remains pure, they see outsider females as nothing but filthy, lowly creatures—at best, they’re playthings to be used as lovers."

"As the Supreme God Angel, the Saint Heir’s future partner is destined to be a female from the Angel Clan. You don’t even have the right to live in the Holy Palace. The Holy Hall only heard that you’ve given birth to Mixed Blood Angels and grew a little curious, so they brought you here to make up the numbers... You should learn how to serve people now. If you can please the Saint Heir, maybe he’ll grant you the status of a bed-warmer. I’m telling you this for your own good!"

A cold glint flashed in Sang Luo’s eyes. ’So they don’t value me at all. No wonder I’ve been captured for so many days and haven’t even seen his face.’

’I’m not good enough for the Saint Heir?’

’He’s the one who’s not good enough for me!’

’Do they really think every female is desperate to bear children for the Angel Clan?’

Sang Luo had no desire to stay in the Holy Hall anyway. Her attempt to crawl through the doggy door wasn’t a total failure; it had taught her that the palace walls were also covered by an Array.

With her first plan a failure, she quickly devised a second one.

Every morning, a group of people passed by the palace and left through the western gate.

These were Beastmen, Servants of the Holy Hall, whose strength was almost all below Emperor Rank. Sang Luo’s Disguise Technique and Invisibility Technique would not be detected by them.

She found her chance, knocked out a Servant, took his clothes, put them on, disguised her face, and tailed the end of the line. The journey was uneventful.

At the palace gate, there was a special Teleportation Array.

’This Teleportation Array can definitely get me out of the Holy Hall!’

Sang Luo kept her head down, the wide hood concealing her expression and her wildly beating heart.

Closer and closer to the gate... closer and closer...

Suddenly, she heard the guard at the gate speak to the Beastman at the head of the line.

"Present your Holy Seals."

Sang Luo’s heart skipped a beat, then plummeted into an abyss.

She quickly looked up and saw the Beastman passing through reveal his palm, upon which glowed a golden Holy Seal.

She had never had the chance to get close to the palace gate before, only seeing it from a distance. She hadn’t realized a pass was needed!

Her turn for inspection was just moments away.

If she were exposed, she would never get another chance.

Sang Luo gathered an Energy Ball in the palm hidden within her sleeve. Phoenix True Fire, Purple Gold Thunder, Petrification, Invincible True Fire, Illusion Technique... she threw every messy Talent Ability she had into it, creating her most powerful attack, and slammed it into the ground!

The crowd erupted in screams as the scene descended into chaos.

She took advantage of the chaos to rush toward the entrance of the Teleportation Array.

BANG!

She was just a few steps away, so close, when she slammed into someone.

Her nose hit his firm chest, the impact stinging with pain.

Sang Luo’s eyes instantly reddened and misted over. She looked up at the man blocking her path... and it was a familiar face!

The young guard she’d met while trying to crawl through the doggy door!

"Get out of my way!"

She was frantic, trying to shove the man aside, but he suddenly grabbed her outstretched wrist.

They were pressed extremely close together.

The young man seemed to be in a daze. He caught a faint, fleeting scent on her, one that was indescribably familiar, as if he had been waiting for it for a long, long time...

His heart suddenly began to pound, faster and faster...

"Hey, what are you doing?"

Sang Luo’s eyes widened in panic. ’This is my only chance! Don’t you dare ruin this for me!’

"Who’s over there?! Get him!"

’Crap, I’ve been discovered!’

Sang Luo had no time to despair. She turned and ran.

The young man was still holding her wrist, refusing to let go.

She ended up dragging him along as she fled.

They ran so fast that the biting wind whipped up the corners of their robes. The hood of the young man’s long robe was blown back, revealing a head of soft, pale golden hair.

Sang Luo happened to see it as she glanced back. His hair was a very light gold, almost platinum blonde in the sunlight, so beautiful it was dazzling.

"Stop running... They’re not chasing us."

After running for what felt like an eternity, the young man suddenly pulled on her hand, bringing them to a stop.

Sang Luo also stopped, panting. She glanced back several times, and only after confirming they weren’t being followed did she let out a breath of relief, feeling like she had just survived a disaster. She finally had the energy to size up the man before her.

He looked a bit "disheveled." His short, pale golden hair was messy and slightly curled, his thin lips were parted as he breathed a little rapidly, and a faint blush had crept onto his smooth, porcelain-white face. His simple, neat robes were now in disarray.

Previously, the collar of his robes had been fastened high, meticulously hiding even his Adam’s apple, giving him an ascetic and holy air. Now, the collar was open, revealing his prominent Adam’s apple and a small patch of porcelain-white skin.

For a moment, Sang Luo was dazzled by his beauty, and half of her anger dissipated.

The young man, however, grabbed her palm and turned it over, his grip incredibly strong. "...You shouldn’t have snuck in there. Without a Holy Seal, the Array would have instantly torn you to shreds!"
