From A Producer To A Global Superstar-Chapter 244: Choice wisely
Min-ji woke up early this morning but was feeling weird this has been going on since she had been asked to forfeit the role of Jin-hee in The train to Busan.
It had almost reached two years now since she had any real role and she was getting tired of not having any role so when she saw the email tone confrom her to come for audition for the role.
She made sure to prepare her best and understand the character well with she did and she got the role only that her happiness was short lived.
The order from above came that nobody should go to the set and send a decline email to the Train to Busan.
She remember she cried her eyes the night when her agent sent that emails of rejection she missed doing what she loved and the .missed opportunity pained her.
Min-Ji slowly sat at her dining table and stared at her untouched breakfast. She picked up her spoon, then placed it back down.
Agent.
She hesitated for a moment before answering.
"Hello?" she said softly.
"Min-Ji, how are you doing?" her agent asked.
Her voice sounded careful, almost concerned.
"I’m... doing better," Min-Ji replied. It wasn’t a lie, but it wasn’t the full truth either.
"Well, if you don’t mind," the agent continued,
"your attention is needed at the agency today."
Min-Ji paused.
"At the agency?" she asked. "What’s so urgent that you can’t say it over the phone?"
"Hey, calm down," the agent replied quickly. "It’s the boss. He wants to see you."
Min-Ji froze.
"The boss?" she repeated.
She had only seen the boss once or twice since joining VIREX. He was not the type to summon actors personally—especially someone like her.
"Why does the boss want to see me?" Min-Ji asked.
"You’ll find out when you get here," the agent replied, ending the call before Min-Ji could ask anything else.
Min-Ji sighed deeply.
She stood up, changed her clothes, and grabbed her car keys. As she drove, her thoughts wandered endlessly.
After about forty-five minute drive she arrived at a skyscraper that screams of power.
****
Inside VIREX building.
Min-Ji gave ninety degree. "Good afternoon sir you asked for me."
The man seating down in his late fifties nodded by his side was Min-Ji agent.
"Hmm yes have a sit." The man said as he pointed a sit close by.
Min-Ji bowed again the sat down.
The silenr hung in for about few seconds.
"I heard you took the rejection of your role in Train to Busan quite harshly," the man said calmly, but his voice carried weight.
Min-Ji looked at him, then turned a sharp glare toward her agent.
After a brief pause, she forced a polite smile.
"Not at all, sir," she said. "I haven’t had any serious role in a long time. So when an opportunity finally came, of course I was happy. And when it was taken away, I was sad. I believe I’m allowed to feel that way, sir."
She turned the question back to him.
The man smirked slightly.
"Of course you are," he replied. "Now, here’s the thing. I have a new role for you in a movie. Take a look."
The man hearing this smirked. "Of course you’re allowed , so here is the thing I have a new role for you to play In a movie check it out."
The man said as he dropped a script.
Min-Ji seeing this was a bit skeptical if this was what you wanted to say why did you nor just give it to my agent to give me why call me here to she smelt something but didn’t know what exactly it was.
But she picked up the script and read it the story was a bit cliché but she could try to play it if there was a chance to pick between this and the project Train to Busan she would of course pick Train to Busan.
She raised her head and said." Thank you sir I like the script but I canr help but ask why you couldn’t have just asked my agent to give thsi to me rather you called me here I feel that there more to it."
Min-Ji voiced her thoughts without fliter as she was holding a deep grudge with the company foe first not introducing her to any good role since the past two years and second for removing her in the role that she had just to offer crumbs.
The boss expression didn’t change at all but the agent was already sweating giving Min-Ji hint taht she should stop and let it go.
"Hmm you’re right like your agent said you’re really smart so j would lay it out for you raw."
"As you already know, a ban has been placed on the Train to Busan project. None of our actors are allowed to work on it."
Min-Ji nodded slowly.
"And," the man continued, pausing deliberately, "Dayo has not contacted any actor or actress."
He stopped.
"...Except you."
This time Min-Ji had a shock expression different from her indifferent expression what does ot mean that Dayo contacted her.
Min-Ji looked ah her agent who just bowed her head and Min-Ji muttered silently "Bitch."
She was now getting everything Dayo has reached out to her agent to get to her to see if she would work with him or not and her.
And her agent instead of asking her brought this to the boss of course this was not because of loyalty it was something different opportunity and praise.
Min-Ji arranged her words "So that was why you quickly arrange this work for me as compensation?"
The man paused a bit of annoyance in his face. "Yes I see that you’re a really good actress I don’t wnay you to involve yourself in issues that would affect your journey to the top so make your choices right."
With tgat the man stood up and left.
Only the hum of the air conditioner remained.
Min-Ji turned to her agent.
"Why didn’t you talk to me first?" she asked quietly.
Her agent laughed lightly. "Do you think I would’ve let you go? You know who we’re up against. This—" she gestured between them "—was inevitable."
Min-Ji stood up.
"We’re done," she said coldly. "You got what you wanted. Leave me alone."
The agent said nothing.
She simply stood up and walked out.
Min-Ji sat back down, alone.
She looked at the script that was handed over to her and sighed.
She was conflicted on what choice to make play it safe or risk it all.
