Freya and Her Beast Husbands-Chapter 13: They’re Both Crazy
Freya stiffened at the words, feeling a light breath tickling the back of her neck. There was someone right behind her and she hadn’t even realized it until they spoke and made their presence known.
And judging by the sharp glint in Xavier’s narrowed eyes as he stared at the person behind him, this person was very dangerous. A chill went down her spine at the thought and Freya didn’t dare turn around, frozen in place.
Guess she was meeting Xavier’s brother whether she liked it or not.
"Why don’t you introduce me, Xavier?" The voice murmured softly, warm air tickling her ear. "After all, it’s not everyday your older brother brings home a female."
Xavier’s frown deepened as he slowly removed the glove off his right hand and muttered, "Ethan... Now is not the time for games."
As the two brothers entered a staring contest, Freya slowly moved her hands to the table. She needed something, anything, to defend herself with. Even if it seemed useless.
She’d rather die fighting than not. Though she did prefer not to die. She’d been through way too much nonsense to die after thirteen Chapters.
Her right hand locked onto the nearest sharp object - a silver fork. Not the greatest weapon, but the right move could take someone’s eye out. And she would definitely do that if it meant a chance at escaping from the wackjob behind.
"I’m not playing any games." Ethan declared in a sing-a-along voice. "I’m just curious about this situation... After all, what kind of nutcase willingly eats with you?"
Did he just call me a nutcase?! Freya exclaimed in anger to herself as her grip tightened around the fork so much that her knuckles began to whiten. She was going to show that wackjob just what kind of nutcase she was.
"That nutcase would be your future sister-in-law." Xavier muttered through gritted teeth before she could make good on her promise. "So how about you show a little more respect before I decide to teach you some manners."
"No way... Someone would actually agree to marry you?!" Ethan gasped out in horror, finally moving away from behind her.
Only to flop down on the stool next to her, turning his face to stare at her with blazing, blue eyes. He was similar looking to Xavier with a sharp jaw and snake-like eyes.
But that’s where the similarities ended. His black hair was much shorter compared to Xavier with bangs slightly covering his eyes when he moved.
However, his good looks were not what had Freya in a state of shock as she took him in.
No, it was the blood covering his chest. The wounds looked to be... bullet wounds. How the hell was he sitting there with a smile, still alive and not bleeding out to death, was a question Freya wasn’t sure if she wanted to know or not.
One thing was for sure. That bright smile on his face did little to hide the crazy. She could practically feel it leaking out of him.
"Sister-in-law, if you keep staring at me like that I might fall in love with you." Ethan murmured, immediately making Freya frown.
First he called her a nutcase and now he was flirting?! Just what the hell was wrong with this guy?
"Sorry, but I’m into older men." Freya muttered. "Besides, your brother and I are getting married. It’ll never work out so forget it."
"Aww, don’t say that... Don’t you know brothers should always share everything." Ethan retorted, leaning his head against his hand. "Don’t you know how hard it is for a snake to find a partner. I’m sure I’m at least a hundred times better than that old fart. You know he doesn’t do anything but hurt monsters.... So scary."
Xavier let out a hiss at those words as Freya sighed, "Yeah I know.... Anyway, nice meeting you, but I need to rest."
With that she got up, fork in one hand and soup in the other because she wasn’t going to stick around this guy any longer than necessary. Because crazy was the right word to describe him.
And she was way too exhausted, mentally and physically, to deal with this kind of crazy.
At least Xavier openly showed his danger and gave Freya a chance to predict what was going to happen. However, the same could now be said about Ethan.
She couldn’t get a good read on him, unsure whether he was being serious or just joking around. And that was scarier than anything Xavier could throw at her.
Which said a lot considering she’d seen Xavier basically go on a murder spree. Well, kind of... She was just going to keep looking at that one as defense. After all, it did save her from being kidnapped and who knows what with those creeps.
Xavier moved to get up too, both about to leave, but Ethan moved to block the exit before they could get out of the kitchen. Freya’s scowl deepened as Xavier let out another warning hiss.
One that had her immediately guessing what kind of snake he was - a black mamba. They had one of the loudest hisses she had ever heard and they were super aggressive. Not to mention deadly.
And now she was stuck with two. Which did not bode well for her, making her question her decisions.
"We’re not done talking though." Ethan tilted his head, trying to look like some sad puppy. "I just got back... Can’t we spend some time together?"
"Fucking ass..." Xavier swore, raising a hand to throw a sudden black ball at his brother.
And Freya watched in horror as the brother disappeared into that black ball. Just like those wolves. She couldn’t believe her eyes. Xavier had just killed his brother! Like it was nothing.
She gazed at the black void where Ethan once stood, only one thought in her head. They were both crazy and she needed to get out of this house before that became her.
Promises screwed. She was not about to die like that.
