Fortunate to Have You This Lifetime-Chapter 846 - : Argument_1
Chapter 846: Chapter 846: Argument_1
Purple Summers continued her questioning.
“Earlier, when the prosecutor asked you, you said you’ve worked for the Carter Family for a year and a half and are very familiar with Edward Carter and Nadia Cory, so much so that you couldn’t possibly mistake them, correct?”
The maid nodded slightly, “Yes, that’s right.”
Purple Summers continued, “Then you should know, Edward Carter has a small scar on his face. Can you point out where exactly it is now?”
The maid instinctively looked at Edward Carter in the defendant’s seat.
Purple Summers took a step, blocking her view, and said with a smile, “Witness, please look into my eyes and tell me the answer, alright?”
The maid felt awkward and shook her head gently, “I don’t know… ”

“He has a small scar on the left side of his chin,” Purple Summers smiled and then asked, “Does he have a black mole on one of his ears, and if so, do you know which side?”
The maid pursed her lips and shook her head again.
Purple Summers answered for her, “The right ear.”
“Objection!” the prosecutor could no longer restrain himself and stood up, “These minor features on the defendant’s body are irrelevant to the case! Even friends who have known each other for years might not be aware of where we have moles or scars on our bodies! This should not negate the witness’s identification of the defendant!”
Purple Summers looked back at the prosecutor coldly, “When the witness saw the perpetrator, he was opening a door to flee. The whole event took no more than 1.5 seconds, just 1.5 seconds! Merely a silhouette! Yet, the witness definitively claimed during the call to the police that Edward Carter killed Nadia Cory! Isn’t this worth our skepticism?
In fact, the witness didn’t see the perpetrator clearly at all! She only concluded that Edward Carter was the killer because she heard a quarrel and then saw a man with a similar build to Edward Carter from the back, defaulting to the assumption based on inertia!”
After Purple Summers finished, she looked towards the judge, “Your Honor, this witness has worked for the Carter Family for as long as a year and a half, but in fact, she only took care of lunch and dinner, spending most of her time in the kitchen or her own room. And my client Mr. Edward Carter, having an unhappy relationship with the deceased Ms. Nadia Cory, was nearly half a year in separation from her. The witness is hardly familiar with my client. To accuse my client of murder based solely on a silhouette is unreasonable! I earnestly request that the court strike this witness’s testimony from the record!”
“The clothes!” the prosecutor exclaimed indignantly, “The maid saw Edward Carter escaping in a black suit; when the police caught him, he was wearing a black suit!”
“Oh, a black suit is it?” Purple Summers turned to glance at the gallery, “One, two, three… seven, eight… well, I’ve lost count. There sure are a lot of gentlemen wearing black suits today. We can see, even two of the gentlemen in the jury are wearing black suits, good! Handsome, isn’t it? It’s truly a versatile outfit!”
The prosecutor’s face turned ashen, “I object to the defense openly mocking!”
“Mocking?” Purple Summers laughed, “I’d like to remind the prosecutor, the outfit you’re wearing today is also a black suit! Based on a hurried silhouette for just 1.5 seconds and a black suit, you want to charge my client with murder? Does the prosecution have disregard for the court?”
Bang, bang, bang!
The judge struck the gavel, his elderly and solemn face showing surprise, “If you need it, I can announce a recess for half an hour for you to finish your argument and then continue?”
“I apologize,” said the prosecutor, his face colored with displeasure.
“I’m sorry,” Purple Summers conceded smoothly.
“Witness testimony will be retained, but I will remind the jury to consider the validity of this testimony when deliberating the case,” the judge said, looking at Purple Summers with a stern voice, “Does the defense have any other valuable witnesses or evidence?”
“Yes, Your Honor,” Purple Summers said with a smile, “I would like to question the prosecution’s witness, Officer Silas Jaxon.”
Bang! The judge briskly struck the gavel, “Summon the witness to the stand.”
