Chapter 177: Shut up, Lilin..

Lilin’s POV: 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺

"Your Grace! I am extremely sorry. I didn’t mean to knock you over," I heard a timid girl say. Since it was dark, I wasn’t able to see her face.

"Whoever you are, light up the hallway now," I shouted out while I got back to my feet.

I heard her footsteps moving away from me. She better light the torches soon. Every second she delays in doing it is a threat to her life.

Surprisingly, the girl was quick. Once the yellow light of the fire torches flooded up the whole place, I was able to see the girl. She is just a dark witch who cooks and cleans here!

She doesn’t even have the privilege to touch the Demon Princess! But she has the nerve to knock me down?

The witch girl was trembling in fear! She clutched the filthy apron of her rags and said," I am sorry, Your Grace! I didn’t mean to push you down. It was dark and...."

"Why was the hallway dark?" I snarled. "You are in charge of maintaining my room, aren’t you?"

She started sobbing after that and annoyed me even more. The timid girl got on her knees. She bowed her head so much that her forehead touched the floor. "I am sorry, Your Grace. I was on my way to light up the hallway, but unfortunately, I arrived a little late here today."

"And why were you late?" I asked in a little lower tone.

She raised her head from the floor and looked up at me. Her eyes were still moist, but at least she wasn’t whimpering like a kid now.

"Your Grace! Ten years ago, my daughter died on this day. I just got emotional and lost track of time. I am sorry for my actions. I will not repeat my mistake."

"So your daughter died? How exactly did she die?"

"She killed herself because her lover betrayed her."

It sickened me to know that girls can be this much dumb. My lover betrayed me too! I used my heartbreak to strengthen myself. But girls out there kill themselves for a man who doesn’t even deserve them?

I chuckled a little and said, "Your daughter was foolish, and so are you to still worry about her. For your own sake, forget about her and focus on your work."

She stared directly at my eyes and said in a firm tone, "But my daughter wasn’t dumb. She was a skilled healer."

I was taken aback by her words. Is she challenging me?

"You pathetic maid! How dare you roll your eyes at me?"

The maid started shivering and bowed down to me again. "Please forgive me! I never meant to offend you anyway."

I was about to unleash my fury entirely at her, but I fell silent when black smoke emerged in the hallway around us.

Then a beautiful red-haired lady who was wearing a long scarlet gown emerged from the smoke. It was my mother and the Demon Queen Lilith!

She wasn’t pleased when she fixed her ruby red eyes on me. She then looked down at the maid, who was scared to her death. She waved her hand and instructed her to leave the spot.

The maid quickly got up from the ground and ran away from the spot as if her life depended on it. After she left, my mother gave me a nasty glare.

I cursed myself when I realized that I was still in the dusty black gown. This is the one thing that I didn’t want her to know! I was about to change my clothes, but that pathetic maid distracted me.

"Put on some neat clothes and come to my chamber," my mother instructed me and disappeared from the spot.

After that, I stormed into my room and hastily opened my closet. I am finished today! Even my Master Hage won’t be able to save me from my mother’s temper.

But it is not my fault that the Ashlanders are ignorant enough to keep on partying without knowing the happenings of the outer realm.

I put on a plain red gown and tied up my hair in a bun. Before I left the room, I prayed to the Dark Lord that my mother should not yell at me for too long!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was quiet when I got into my mother’s chamber. The fire torches were not lit in her chamber either. Still, the place was not completely dark. As I stepped into the room, I was able to see the origin of the faint light.
A pentagram symbol was drawn on the floor, and my mother was seated in the middle of the symbol. Five candles were placed on the five edges of the symbol.
My mother had her eyes closed, and her lips were saying out Enochian language words. I can’t speak with her now. She is praying to the Dark Lord!
I patiently waited for her to complete her prayer. Perhaps she won’t yell at me the way I thought that she would. My mother always softens a little after her prayer.
But this is daytime! She talks to the Dark Lord only at night. Once she was done, she opened her eyes slowly and stared at me with her dazzling ruby eyes.
"Mother, why are you praying at this time?" I asked her.
The calmness left her face by my question. "Lilin! Do you know how much trouble we are in right now? The forces of light have gotten so much stronger ever since the Dawn sacrificed herself."
"Yes! But we Shadow Creatures are more potent than them. We don’t have to fear them."
"Lilin," she shouted. I took a step back away from her in fear.
"Have you gone ignorant just like your Incubus lover? King Oberon has succeeded in reviving the light force. Now the Dawn has returned too! Our opponents are getting stronger, and you are so clouded to see it?"
"But mother..."
"Shut up, Lilin! You don’t have to defend yourself to me."
