Flip the Coin [BL]-Chapter 92 - . Awake
Chapter 92 - 92. Awake
I blinked my eyes in a daze, when my leg was again hit by a not-as-old hand.
When I turned my head, I saw my grandma had opened her eyes.
"Hey, are you awake?" I kneeled at her side and took her hand.
Her eyes were wide open, and she rolled them eerily around, taking in what was around her. She didn't seem really there; her hand in my own was bashing around, as if she were trying to wake up from sleep paralysis.
"Grandma." I patted her cheek again, and her eyes found mine. In contrast to the earlier milky blurry ones, she now had clear gray pupils that stared at me before again looking around.
Is she dizzy? She doesn't seem to be able to focus. I pulled her up and let her rest against my chest, opening a water bottle and bringing it to her lips.
She raised her arms halfway, only for them to fall again.
"Grandma. You are alright. The whole south district had crossed to a parallel world. Remember? I told you about the parallel dimensions." I fed her a bit of water, resulting in a few spilled drops, but she has still drunk a bit.
"You killed a monster, and now you have leveled up. You do not look nearly as stone old as you did before." I tried to feed her more water, but she turned her head away, apparently not wanting more. It was really devastating to see her like this. No one wants his elder to show his weak side; it makes you feel weak yourself.
And I had never before been so close to her. It felt strange and foreign; I liked her more when she hit me with her walking stick from a distance.
"You look around sixty. If you bat your eyes, you surely can get a new husband." When I finished speaking, she snorted, and I felt that she was able to comprehend what I said to her.
"Take your time, and wake up. Don't die on me, cause I won't be burying you; I am too lazy to dig a hole." I had not even finished when she jammed her fist against my knee. I hissed in pain, but there was a grin on my face; my eyes felt hot.
I wiped my face and leaned her against the tree. No one wants to cuddle with such a violent grandma, especially as a grown-up—or nearly grown-up—man.
I went a few steps away and eyed her while conjuring up a cigarette that I really desperately needed after all these ups and downs.
"If you want me to stop smoking, you'll have to get up and beat me personally." I told her when she eyed me with narrowed eyes. Then I remembered something.
The ladder I had used before was just a stepping ladder, not even one meter high, so not really usable for higher distances. I had never had my hands on one of these ladders you could pull apart for them to get longer, or at least I thought so.
But there was an instance when I walked home after playing with Steven. We passed one of these very long ladders, when we talked about if it really was unlucky to walk through it like the superstition said. I found it nonsense and just got under it and...I touched the ladder while doing so.
Damn, I had forgotten about this. This would be the biggest thing I had ever conjured up before. My cigarette was disappearing anyway, so I tried to conjure it up.
I nearly fell when my hands weighed down with the weight of the metal. I chuckled and turned to my grandma.
"See? We can get out of here with ease." I carried the ladder unsteadily to the brick wall and leaned it against it. It was a perfect match.
I tried to climb a few steps, and it seemed stable. Climbing further, I was soon upstairs. At the top of the ladder, I found a little platform with other houses around it. We would have to get through one of these houses and all the way back on top of this massive mansion to arrive at the spot where I had found the corner.
I just have to get my grandmother up the ladder; no idea how, though.
It would be easy if she could move.

I came down again, and the ladder disappeared.
Sitting at my grandmother's side, I noticed that her head was still turned to the spot I had climbed.
"What should we do now? Waiting until you can conquer the ladder yourself or build something that lets you carry me up? You know, like babies that are bundled on the back of their moms, fixed with fabric." I smirked at her, and she tried to beat me, only that her arms didn't allow her to.
"Haha. Let's wait a bit more, then we'll see." I would light the fireworks to assure Henry, but there was no way I took any risk of really luring monsters here when I was not alone anymore.
Hopefully, he was smart enough to wait where I had left him, or we would miss each other, and I had no idea when we would meet again.
That I had found him directly after entering the forest through the girl's cries had already counted as a miracle.
The baldies were somewhere, and if I lured them here through the fireworks, we also would have a problem, with my grandma tagging along, and her being half immobile. If I were alone, it would be easier, but who made me pick her up while looking around her mansion?
I have to take her with me now that I found her.
"Grandma. Can you understand what I am saying to you? If you can wink with your right eye." I got earnest.
She had a scowl on her face, but eventually followed my instruction.
"Let me tell you about the counterparts."
