Chapter 81 - 81. Orb

Why?

Why was it like this? It made so much sense with the deer monsters, why am I here, and why am I alone?

There was so much trash, like in a garbage depot, hills of waste.

This cave was in the middle, a sole rocky hill amidst the landscape.

I took off my backpack, as well as the bodycam, which wasn't that easy, all alone. When I finally managed, I stuffed the bodycam in my backpack. If recording worked here, I wouldn't want them to see me conjure things up.

When finished, I put my backpack on and slid down the stony hill. When I landed on the garbage, I took a closer look. Most of all, it was plastic, synthetic fabrics, all the things that were unable to turn into soil.

I bent down and looked at a few plastic bottles. They had labels on them, but none of them were readable because they were exposed to the non-existent sun or whatever. I could not even make out if the labels were printed in our alphabet or in some alien language.

It were normal bottles, normal canisters, normal fabric. Everything was destroyed by the elements, none of them giving me a clue if it were things of the actual earth I came from. None were telling me if this was a future that would infest, or a parallel world.

No dear monsters, but there were no animals or anything else as well. I dug through the trash, trying to look at the earth beneath. But the more I dug, the more trash I found. I found not even the actual ground after digging a hole my own height.

"What the fuck?" I looked up at the undefined sky. What is happening, and why did I land here? Why did this landscape look like the vision I had of the faraway future of my lawyer, featuring myself as well?

From the sole stone hill, from inside the cave, I could see that this trash landscape seemed to reach the horizon. Even if I got past it, there should be only more garbage waiting for me.

The city of the last parallel world was in the forest that had deers in it. Are these parallel worlds queued in a row?

Little city → Deer Forrest → Garbage land

But the forest looked normal.... Like the forest in my own world. So, was it like this?

Our world→Little City→ Deer Forest→ Garbage land?

Are these parallel worlds swapping into each other, not only with portals, but also in their landscapes? If it was like this, and my future vision was correct, and if this were the exact parallel world I would visit in a few years, then they were not only appearing in a row.

If that was the truth, if we assumed our world was the sole-fixed spot, then the parallel worlds crashing into ours would repeat themselves, in a circle.

Like this :

Our world

1. Deer Forest → 2. Little City → 3. Garbage land→ 4. Little City → 5. Deer Forest → 6. Garbage land...copy, paste and repeat.

Every parallel world would not only show up once, but repeatedly.

However. That my vision was so far into the future, also meant something else. There were probably not only these parallel worlds. If not only these three worlds would constantly repeat, then that meant it would take years for the same world to show up once more, and there were never-ending parallel-worlds in between.

That would be more than devastating outlooks. I can't just imagine that only these three worlds would show up, it doesn't make sense.

And why was the little city ripped out of its own world? Seeing the people who lived there had been the counterparts of people Henrietta had interacted with (and their friends and families), including her parents, I think it had something to do with her.

She had spoken about hearing her own counterpart speak to her, maybe she could influence the order the worlds show up, or she was also someone who could interfere with time and space, getting her wanted parallel-world to show up before it was in the right order, even just ripping out and transferring the part she needed, in which her parents were in.

"Damn you, Henrietta."

Why had my lawyer crushed such a strange orb in this garbage world? And why was I, the chief, with him? It seemed that they were in the midst of an annoying task, only there to crush that thing. Was that something like the seed of the parallel-world, and when destroyed, would the portal close?

I remember the orb. I dug again through the trash, trying to find something similar.

If I wasn't following the clues I got through my visions, why even have them?

In between the endless searching, I had to empty my water bottle. Looking around, I just threw the bottle amidst the trash I stood in. Didn't matter anymore.

Regarding the weapon, I didn't dare to test it here. If I fired at the undefinable sky, I had no idea what happened, and if I fired in the trash, I could not tell what I would strike. I really would have liked to enter the deer-forest, where I could test in on a monster, or on a thick tree.

After what felt like hours, without the slightest wind around me, without the sky or light changing in any way, I got stubborner the longer it took, until it got personal. I wanted such an orb to hold it in my hands, and see what it was about.

I would even try flipping the coin on it.

Wait. Flipping the coin....

When I was in the forest, the wretched smile warned me from the monster-deer being near, why not test it now? I flipped the coin in my mind, and when it appeared on the table, I always examined it closely in my imagination. The eerie woman was still covered by the hands, letting me only see that the corners of her mouth were raised.

I continued while walking around. It should have a reason why the chief went with the lawyer in what looked like an alone-mission. There was something only the chief could do, and that could be to locate the orb.

Walking around and flipping in my mind, I at some point saw that one of the multiple hands on the woman was removed. Good. I experimented a bit with going forward, backwards, and to the sides, discovering that the removal of the hands was like a navigation system, leading me somewhere.

Eventually, I came to a spot, and no matter where I moved from there, the hands did not lessen, but added themselves to the woman.

I looked down, time to dig.

I dug again through the trash, the coin showing me that I was right to do so. When I pulled out bottles and fabric, other strange containers, and stuff, the eerie woman was finally fully uncovered, smiling wretchedly from the coin again.

I saw a black orb, shining strangely, nearly pulsating.

Was this the seed of this parallel world?

Only one way to know.

I touched it and flipped the coin.
