Flash Marriage: Pampered by Mr.Bigshot-Chapter 494 - 493: What’s so great about MC?
Nia Mitchell quietly sighed in relief. That had been terrifyingly close. If she had been even a fraction of a second slower, Sophia Moore would have seen her. That was far too close for comfort.
While that was Nia Mitchell’s concern, Maxwell Peary’s thoughts were elsewhere. Sophia Moore knocked but entered without waiting for permission. What was the difference between that and not knocking at all?
"Mr. Peary, your coffee."
Like a relentless pest, Sophia Moore approached Maxwell Peary, holding the coffee.
Maxwell Peary’s face was grim; he didn’t even glance at the cup.
"Did I ask for coffee?"
Maxwell Peary was genuinely furious. When he was at his angriest, his expression barely changed. Yet, the pressure in the room suddenly shifted. The entire office felt like a silent, oppressive chamber; it was as if nothing could be seen or heard.
"Mr. Peary," Sophia Moore said, lowering her voice, the smile on her face stiffening slightly. "You didn’t request coffee all morning. I thought you might have forgotten because you were busy, so I... took the liberty."
He must be moved by my initiative, Sophia Moore thought. But why does the atmosphere feel a little off? It must be Nia Mitchell who angered Maxwell Peary. Hmph, serves her right.
Sophia Moore maintained what she believed to be her most impeccable smile.
"Mr. Peary, your coffee... AAH!"
Maxwell Peary said nothing. With a swift, sharp motion, he swept the coffee cup to the floor. The act startled not only Sophia Moore but even Nia Mitchell.
"Since when did it become your place to make decisions at MC?" Maxwell Peary shot to his feet, glaring furiously at Sophia Moore.
Sophia Moore recoiled a step in fright, staring at the mess on the floor.
"I... Mr. Peary, I was just..." She wanted to explain, but in her panic, the words wouldn’t come.
I didn’t have any ulterior motives. Why is Maxwell Peary making such a big deal out of it? It was just a cup of coffee. Even if he didn’t want to drink it, he didn’t need to lash out like this.
"Get out! And if there’s a next time, don’t bother showing your face here again."
Maxwell Peary struggled to suppress his rage. This Sophia Moore was hired by Alan Morgan. I’ll have to have a serious talk with Alan about this. Is he blind? Since when did Alan become so poor at judging character? Then again, considering what happened between him and Shirley Grant back then, perhaps it’s understandable.
"Mr. Peary, you can’t dismiss my abilities just because of this! Bringing you coffee is my duty; whether you drink it or not is your business. Even if you’re in a bad mood, you have no right to take it out on me!" Sophia Moore flared up too. She was done with this demeaning work.
Anyway, I’m about to inherit the entire Walker Family fortune. I’m going to soar. By then, MC will mean nothing to me; I won’t care about anything or anyone here.
Speaking of Maxwell Peary, isn’t he just a businessman? He just has some money, that’s all. Could he possibly be wealthier than the Walker Family?
This was the extent of Sophia Moore’s understanding. It wasn’t entirely her fault; she had never been part of this circle and genuinely believed Maxwell Peary was merely a businessman.
Only those at the very top knew Maxwell Peary’s true background and the methods he employed.
If she had any idea of his methods, she wouldn’t dare to act so arrogantly in his presence.
Unconsciously, she had already placed herself on the same level as Maxwell Peary, even considering herself his superior.
With such arrogance, she was destined to suffer a significant setback in the future.
Maxwell Peary nodded, his earlier towering rage no longer visible. Only those who knew him well understood that this calmness signified he was truly furious.
