Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict-Chapter 841 - : If I don’t come back
Chapter 841: If I don’t come back
“Mo Xiuchen, Ranran says that right now, she’s just friends with you. Don’t push her too hard. It’s already impressive that she can see you as a friend instead of avoiding you altogether. If it were me, I’m afraid I’d never want to see you again.”
Towards the end, Shen Yuting’s voice was infused with faint sadness, bittersweet from the deliberate distance she chose to keep from all the people she loved, to avoid hurting them.
“I don’t care about the promises she made,” Mo Xiuchen narrowed his eyes slightly, his voice slightly cold.
“I know you don’t care, but Ranran does. Back then, when she went to City C with Ah Mu, her reluctance to come back and see you shows that she really cares. Ranran once told me that as long as you were happy, nothing else mattered,” Shen Yuting continued.
“Ranran went to City C with Ah Mu?” Mo Xiuchen instinctively repeated Shen Yuting’s words.
“Yes, at that time Ah Mu jumped off a cliff for Ranran. After they were rescued, Ranran woke up quickly, but Ah Mu remained in a coma for an entire month. Later, to avoid letting him be alone in A City, she personally went there and brought him to G City. Then, she went to work in City C with him. Mo Xiuchen, Ah Mu has been truly good to Ranran. During the days when you weren’t here, it was Ah Mu who took care of Ranran.”
...
Mo Xiuchen’s lips pressed tightly together, and a growing heaviness settled in his chest.
It wasn’t jealousy he felt, but self-reproach, for the duties he had neglected.
Ah Mu had almost lost his life for Ranran. He must really like, even love her. If he never returned, would Ranran eventually…
“Mo Xiuchen, I’m saying this and don’t be angry, but back then, we all thought you wouldn’t return. Seeing Ranran sad and crying every day, everyone hoped that she would be with Ah Mu. Ah Mu’s mother was especially fond of Ranran; that’s why she was at ease when Ah Mu was transferred to G City for Ranran to look after.”
“Hmm.”
Mo Xiuchen didn’t know what to say, only that he felt very uncomfortable inside.
“Mo Xiuchen, I shouldn’t be telling you this, but seeing Ranran so conflicted and struggling, as her cousin, I feel very upset. I’m telling you this in hopes that you won’t misunderstand Ranran and Ah Mu. After all, during the time you were away, it was Ah Mu who was with her. It’s normal for her to trust Ah Mu.”
**
All night, Mo Xiuchen thought about Shen Yuting’s words.
During the time he was away, it was Qin Mu who had stayed by Wen Ran’s side, doing what he should’ve done…
He remembered, last time in City C, when he went to Wen Ran’s apartment early in the morning and bumped into Ah Mu; they lived just above and below each other, seeing each other day and night. If he never returned, would Ranran eventually start liking Ah Mu as well?
Ah Kai had told him, if it weren’t for Ah Mu jumping off the cliff with her, Ranran might not have survived.
Ranran’s life was saved by Ah Mu.
In the early hours, unable to bear it any longer, Mo Xiuchen got up, threw on some clothes haphazardly, grabbed his car keys, and went downstairs.
He drove out of the villa and headed towards the Wen Family’s place.
Woken up in the middle of the night by thirst, Wen Ran went downstairs for a bottle of water. After heading back up, with no sleepiness left in her, she walked to the floor-to-ceiling window on a whim, pulled open the curtains, and looked out into the night sky.
Amid the peaceful and distant night sky, stars twinkled here and there. After watching the stars for a while, she raised her hand to rub her sore neck, and as she looked down, her eyes suddenly widened in shock.
Under the trees outside the villa, a car was parked. The streetlight illuminated the Aston perfectly. Wen Ran didn’t need to see the license plate to know whose it was; her heart skipped two beats and then started racing chaotically.
Her gaze fixated on the driver’s seat, through the car window that was rolled down, that handsome face came into view. Although she couldn’t see his expression clearly, at the moment their eyes met, she involuntarily bit her lip hard.
On the bedside table, her phone buzzed insistently, then moments later, the ringtone sounded.
Wen Ran immediately turned around and went back to the bedside, picking up her phone to answer the call, “Ranran, why are you awake?”
Over the phone, Mo Xiuchen’s voice came through, and Wen Ran’s nose tingled with emotion, but instead of answering his question, she countered, “What are you doing here?”
In the dead of night, doesn’t he need to sleep? Why come to her house.
“Ranran, I can’t sleep.”
Mo Xiuchen’s voice carried a hint of the night’s loneliness, drifting eerily, and when Wen Ran heard it, her heart momentarily seized up.
His admission of being unable to sleep made her uncontrollably feel pity for him, “You have work tomorrow; go back and sleep.”
Wen Ran pursed her lips, striving to keep her voice steady.
“Ranran, you sleep. When I feel like sleeping, I’ll go back.”
Mo Xiuchen smiled faintly over the phone, but his laughter was tinged with sadness that clenched at the heart.
“Why can’t you sleep?”
Wen Ran’s emotions were involuntarily drawn out by him, the question she asked was not directed by her brain.
Mo Xiuchen was silent for a few seconds, and when he spoke again, his voice faintly carried a trace of unease, “Ranran, if, I mean if, I never come back, if I never remember you, would you, would you forget me and marry someone else?”
Wen Ran’s slender body stiffened suddenly.
She doubted what she had heard, thinking it was just an illusion; her heart felt like it had been lightly sliced by a knife, the sharp pain instantly spreading to her limbs.
Mo Xiuchen’s words left her in disbelief.
Was he doubting her, suspecting that she would eventually forget him?
Mo Xiuchen, how could he doubt her like that? He couldn’t forget her even if he forgot himself; in the end, he still managed to get in touch with her. With all her memories intact, loving him more than she loved herself, how could she possibly forget him?
Even if he truly ended up with Cheng Jia or another woman, she would not forget him.
Not getting a response from her, the uncertainty in Mo Xiuchen grew like a black hole on the other end of the line, threatening to swallow him whole. His corners of mouth twisted into a bitter smile as he softly said, “Ranran, go rest. I’m heading back too.”
Wen Ran’s hand holding the phone trembled slightly, the pain in her heart intensifying rather than subsiding. She bit her lip hard, her voice choked with sobs, “Mo Xiuchen, if you don’t come back, I’ll spend the rest of my life clinging to my love for you.”
After speaking, Wen Ran didn’t give Mo Xiuchen a chance to respond and hung up the phone.
She wiped her palm across her face, finding it unexpectedly moist.

She didn’t know why she felt so upset. She told herself, “Wen Ran, Mo Xiuchen has lost his memory; it’s normal for him not to trust you the way he did before.”
Yet, another voice inside her argued: Mo Xiuchen, even with your lost memories, you shouldn’t doubt that I would forget you.
Downstairs, Mo Xiuchen sat rigid in the driver’s seat, Wen Ran’s words, laden with suppressed sorrow and distress, echoing in his ears, “Mo Xiuchen, if you don’t come back, I’ll spend the rest of my life clinging to my love for you.”
He clenched his eyes shut tightly, and upon reopening them, his features not only conveyed guilt and self-reproach but, unexpectedly, even more of a sense of relief: Ranran, with those words of yours, I promise, in this lifetime, I will never let go of you.
