After finishing the phone call, Mo Xiuchen returned to the bedside, sat on the edge of the bed, and watched Wen Ran.

His mood, which was depressed because of the issues with Luo Haofeng, had gradually calmed down with Ranran’s companionship.
He hesitated, debating whether or not to let Ranran know about Bai Xiaoxiao’s issue. Ranran was still in the early stages of pregnancy, the first three months being the most unstable.
Privately, Mo Xiuchen did not want Ranran to experience any sadness, anger, or emotional fluctuations because of anything. However, Bai Xiaoxiao was Ranran’s best friend, and if he hid it from her, Ranran would surely blame him.
After much hesitation, Mo Xiuchen made a decision.
He walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window and dialed Bai Xiaoxiao’s number. There were several rings before Xiaoxiao’s voice came through the phone, and despite her attempts to hide it, the traces of crying were audible.
“Hello?”
“Xiaoxiao, it’s me, Mo Xiuchen.”
“Mo Xiuchen, have you and Ranran made it home?” Bai Xiaoxiao’s voice carried a nasal tone as it traveled from the other side of the Pacific Ocean. Mo Xiuchen’s brows furrowed, then he curved his lips into a smile, “Yeah, I’ve got some good news to tell you.”
“What good news?”
Bai Xiaoxiao immediately asked, pretending to be cheery.
“In eight months, you can be a godmother.”
“You mean, Ranran is pregnant, oh, is it true?” Bai Xiaoxiao was genuinely delighted. Although she had been in unbearable pain just a second ago, at this moment, upon hearing Mo Xiuchen’s good news, a hint of happiness sprouted amidst the heartache.
“Of course it’s true. This afternoon, as soon as we got back to G City, I went with Ranran to the hospital for a check-up.”
“Mo Xiuchen, then you must take good care of Ranran, and don’t let her suffer even the slightest grievance,” Bai Xiaoxiao earnestly instructed over the phone.
Ranran was finally happy.
Even if she herself was not happy, she still wished for Ranran to be forever happy.
Mo Xiuchen made a sound of agreement, paused, then said, “Don’t worry, I will take good care of Ranran.”
“Mo Xiuchen, you must also know about Luo Haofeng’s issue. Don’t tell Ranran about this, pregnant women need to maintain a pleasant mood.”
Without waiting for Mo Xiuchen to speak, Bai Xiaoxiao proactively advised.
“Ah Feng was framed by Qi Meiling and her mother. I asked him, and he said he got drunk last night. Maybe, nothing happened between him and Qi Meiling.”
“I’ve already broken up with him.”
Bai Xiaoxiao said softly over the phone.
Mo Xiuchen was slightly taken aback as this was indeed in line with Bai Xiaoxiao’s style of doing things, and he did not bother to make any more explanations for Luo Haofeng, he simply said, “Alright, take good care of yourself overseas. For now, I will not tell Ranran about it.”
“Ranran has always wanted to give you a son and a daughter. In a few months, when we find out the baby’s gender, make sure to tell me so I can prepare the gifts.”
Talking about godsons and goddaughters, Bai Xiaoxiao’s voice brightened again.
Mo Xiuchen smiled slyly; another surprise should wait a few months before being shared with her.
“Okay, I will definitely tell you.”

The next morning, Wen Ran woke up especially early.
She had gone to bed early last night, woken up once in the middle of the night, then fallen back asleep, and when she woke up in the morning, she felt particularly refreshed.
As she opened her eyes, Wen Ran’s first action was to gently place her hand on her abdomen, silently greeting her baby: Good morning. The spot beside her was empty; Mo Xiuchen had already gotten up.
“Ranran, good morning.”
A moment later, Mo Xiuchen emerged from the walk-in closet and upon seeing her awake, the corners of his mouth instantly curved into a gentle arc, his deep eyes brimming with love.
Wen Ran’s brow lit up with a bright smile, her voice crisp and cheerful, “Good morning.”
“Are you getting up now? I’ll get your clothes out for you,” Mo Xiuchen said and, without waiting for Wen Ran’s response, he returned to the walk-in closet to find her a set of clothes.
“The weather is nice today, in the teens, so wearing this won’t be cold.”
Mo Xiuchen placed the clothes on the bed and bent down to lift Ranran from the bed, reaching to undo the buttons of her nightdress.
“Mo Xiuchen, I can dress myself.”
Wen Ran grabbed his broad palm, her brows slightly furrowed.
Mo Xiuchen’s gaze swept over her chest and, after a slight hesitation, he nodded, “Okay, dress yourself. I’ll go and squeeze the toothpaste for you. Take your time, no rush.”
“Mo Xiuchen, you really don’t need to be so nervous. Many women continue working while they’re pregnant, and their lives are no different than usual.”
Wen Ran didn’t want him to remain so tense all the time; pregnancy wasn’t as terrifying as he imagined.
Mo Xiuchen raised an eyebrow and said calmly and confidently, “I know, you don’t need to rest at home and can continue to work.”
“You’re willing to let me continue working?”
Wen Ran looked at Mo Xiuchen in astonishment. She must have heard wrong; with his level of anxiety, it seemed unlikely he would allow her to go to work.
Mo Xiuchen chuckled softly, “Of course, I’ll allow you to work. However, you don’t have to go today. I’ve already informed Li Qian and Mo Zixuan, and I estimate that today Li Qian and Zhou Lin will come to see you.”
Mo Xiuchen did not deceive Wen Ran; he truly allowed her to continue working. With eight months to go before delivery, he didn’t want Ranran to be alone at home for these few months.
The best solution for him going to work was to let her continue working as well.
That way, he could always be by her side and feel somewhat relieved.
Wen Ran blinked her eyes and replied with a smile, “It’s okay, I’ll rest at home today and go to work tomorrow. Mo Xiuchen, you can’t go back on your word.”
“I won’t. Anything that’s good for you and the baby, I’ll allow you to do,” Mo Xiuchen’s smile was tender and doting.
During breakfast, Wen Ran had only taken a few bites before she threw up.
Mo Xiuchen followed her into the bathroom, standing behind her, gently patting her back while Wen Ran struggled with nausea, “Ranran, does it feel very bad?”
Listening to his concerned and sympathetic words, the discomfort in Wen Ran’s heart seemed to ease a little. After she finished vomiting, she looked up and smiled reassuringly at him, “Mo Xiuchen, it’s okay, this is a normal pregnancy reaction. Many women experience this when they’re pregnant.”
Despite her comforting words, Mo Xiuchen’s brows did not relax. His large hand gently touched her slightly pale cheek, his rough fingertips wiping away the water that had splashed onto the corner of her mouth after rinsing.
“Ranran, how long will this situation last?”
Wen Ran pursed her lips, “Not much longer. Why are you frowning so much? Don’t you know everything? Could it be that you don’t know that pregnant women have pregnancy reactions?”
By the end, she had adopted a teasing tone.
Mo Xiuchen honestly shook his head, “I didn’t know you would have such a reaction. Why did you throw up just now? Is it because you didn’t like those breakfast foods? Tell me what you want to eat, and I’ll go make it again for you.”
Wen Ran was somewhat amused by Mo Xiuchen’s response.
Especially that serious yet innocent expression on his handsome, refined face. She really didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
