Chapter 1000: 999 did not offend anyone
Father Luo’s face changed as he spoke seriously, “Ah Feng, life isn’t just about love. Apart from love, there are many important things, like family ties, career, responsibility…”
“Family ties, career, and responsibility?” Luo Haofeng sneered coldly, his handsome face filled with scorn, “Dad, you’re willing to trade your love for your career, I’m not.”
“What nonsense are you talking about?”

Angry and embarrassed by Luo Haofeng’s words, Father Luo challenged him, “Think carefully about it. If you push your mother to her death, is there any possibility for you and Bai Xiaoxiao to be together?”
Luo Haofeng’s face suddenly went pale.
If his mother were to die because of this, he and Xiaoxiao would never be able to be together in this lifetime.
“But, I won’t break up with Xiaoxiao. Dad, can’t you try to persuade mom?” A trace of pain flashed in Luo Haofeng’s eyes as he looked at Father Luo, his gaze no longer as cold as before but filled with pleading.
Father Luo shook his head, “If I speak up, your mom will only get more agitated. Just agree with your mom for now, wait until she calms down.”
“Calm down? Unless Xiaoxiao and I have nothing to do with each other anymore and I marry Qi Meiling as she wishes.”
“You know she likes Qi Meiling, so why don’t you try a different angle? Start with Qi Meiling. Right now, a single word from her is worth more than hundreds of our words.”

G City
When Wen Ran and Little Liu returned home, Mo Xiuchen’s tall figure was waiting at the villa entrance.
As soon as the car stopped, he opened the door and pulled Wen Ran out, examining her anxiously, “Ranran, are you okay?”
Wen Ran saw his anxious expression and showed a comforting smile, “I’m fine, Xiuchen. On the way back, I already called Brother Lu, and he’s investigating now.”
Mo Xiuchen looked her up and down, making sure she was fine, and only then did his hanging heart settle. A flicker of emotion swept across his deep eyes, but it quickly returned to its usual gentleness, “Ranran, let’s go inside.”
As soon as they entered the house, Wen Ran’s phone rang.
“Ranran, I heard from Zhixing that you were followed on the road. Are you hurt?”
On the phone came Wen Jin’s concerned voice. Wen Ran glanced at Mo Xiuchen beside her and said, “Brother, I’m fine; they didn’t catch up to us.”
“Ranran, give me the phone.”
Beside her, Mo Xiuchen spoke softly. Wen Ran hesitated then handed the phone to him, letting him talk to her brother.
Remembering the harrowing moment from before, Wen Ran still had residual fear.
Although Little Liu wasn’t as alert as Qing Feng and Qing Yang, his driving skills were quite good. When the two cars behind them caught up, almost trapping them in the middle, Little Liu turned the steering wheel at the crucial moment…
“Ranran, what are you thinking?”
Mo Xiuchen’s voice interrupted Wen Ran’s thoughts. She blinked vaguely, “Have you finished the call?”
“Yes, it’s finished.”
Mo Xiuchen pulled Wen Ran to sit in front of the sofa, “Ranran, tell me about what happened.”
“At first, I didn’t notice…”
Wen Ran recounted the events simply, trying to make it sound as light as possible so as not to worry Mo Xiuchen.
After listening, Mo Xiuchen took her into his embrace, holding her gently, “Ranran, I’m sorry. From now on, wherever I go, I must take you with me.”
He was both worried and self-reproaching when he received her call, as he couldn’t refuse today’s invitation from a government official for a meeting. Since Qing Feng and Qing Yang had taken leave to go home the day before, he had Little Liu accompany Ranran to the Bai Family.
If he had known something like this would happen, he would have refused outright, even if it had been the heavens and the earth calling.
Wen Ran wrapped her arms around Mo Xiuchen and whispered, “Xiuchen, how could this be your fault? I’m fine now, aren’t I?”
Mo Xiuchen kissed her forehead, not wanting to worry her further. Wen Ran shifted the topic, “Have you called Luo Haofeng?”
At the mention of Luo Haofeng, a subtle change crossed Mo Xiuchen’s eyes, and he smiled, “Ranran, let’s discuss this issue later. You go upstairs now and check if anything has been overlooked, and I’ll go cook dinner.”
“Okay.”
A hint of confusion flashed through Wen Ran’s mind, but seeing that Mo Xiuchen didn’t want to talk, she didn’t ask further.

Police station.
In Lu Zhiyan’s office.
Wen Jin watched the surveillance footage he had pulled up, his expression changing with what appeared on the screen.
“Still no clue?”
Lu Zhiyan passed him a cigarette, and Wen Jin took it, looking away from the monitor video to look at him.
“No, the license plate is fake, and they’re very familiar with the roads in G City. There are two possibilities: they’re locals of G City, or they studied G City’s road routes and surveillance sections carefully before they acted.”
“Once Ranran reported it, I started the investigation. Look here.”
Lu Zhiyan pointed at a spot on the video, “They knew Ranran’s car was turning back towards the city’s main road, so they didn’t follow anymore but escaped through this surveillance-free side road…”
“Ranran and Mo Xiuchen are going abroad tomorrow, and they probably won’t be back for half a month. Can you find any results in that time?”
Wen Jin clamped the cigarette between his fingers but didn’t light it.
Lu Zhiyan frowned uncertainly, “I can’t guarantee that. We don’t have any clues at the moment, and their vehicle disappeared here…”
Wen Jin listened to Lu Zhiyan’s analysis, his handsome brows knitting tighter and tighter.
“How about launching a search for eyewitnesses online?”
“I’ve considered that method and will use it,” Lu Zhiyan flicked off the cigarette ash and continued, “Remind Mo Xiuchen to be careful. They’ve reported the case already. If needed, I can offer police protection for Wen Ran.”
“You know that’s irrelevant to him.”
Wen Jin reflexively refused Lu Zhiyan’s suggestion,
With Mo Xiuchen’s way of doing things, after this afternoon’s incident, he would definitely protect Ranran more closely than ever. Those people acting while Mo Xiuchen was away indicated that they were somehow apprehensive of him.
“Or, you call Mo Xiuchen and have him come to the station. I want to learn more about the situation from him.”
Lu Zhiyan saw he hadn’t lit up yet and frowned, reaching for the lighter on the coffee table to light it for him.
Wen Jin lit up, took a drag, blew out a ring of smoke, and then said, “He’ll come after dinner.”
Mo Xiuchen had said on the phone earlier for him to go to the station first; he would contact Lu Zhiyan in the evening or go to the station.
Lu Zhiyan frowned, “He sure isn’t in a hurry.”
Wen Jin’s mouth twitched, “It’s not that Mo Xiuchen isn’t in a hurry; he just prioritizes comforting Ranran first. Anyway, the police are the ones to solve the case; he can’t help much. He might not even be able to provide any leads, because according to him, he’s been keeping a very low profile lately and hasn’t offended anyone.”
