Chapter 90: Chapter 90 The Throbbing Heart, the Excited Emotion (1)
Currently, there’s not enough confidence in winning the case, the evidence is rather thin. After much effort to find some clues, the results still fell short of expectations. Because of this, Mi Wan’s mood inevitably became somewhat downcast. The car has already driven into the villa neighborhood, but she still hasn’t figured out how to explain the case to the Li Bing sisters.
Whether to describe it positively or negatively, it seems inappropriate!
Mi Wan habitually reached out to press her temples, then, after momentarily being lost in thought, she lifted her gaze to look straight ahead, and surprisingly, saw a little boy suddenly chasing a soccer ball out onto the main road, just two or three meters away from her car!
Screech——
The braking force caused Mi Wan’s body to lurch forward, she tightly gripped the steering wheel, preventing her face from hitting the wheel directly, so it didn’t hurt much.
However, the sense of fear didn’t diminish one bit. She felt her whole back turn cold with fright, her heart still racing as she looked up but couldn’t see the little boy’s figure. The long and straight main road was only occupied by stationary cars; no humans could be seen, not even the soccer ball the boy had been chasing!
Could it be...
She dared not continue to think about the dreadful consequences. Her body shivered slightly, and the more anxious and scared she felt, the more her hands trembled. After a while, she managed to unbuckle the seatbelt and hurriedly got out of the car.
Quickly rushing to the front of the car, she saw the little boy lying on the ground, eyes tightly closed, hugging the soccer ball in his arms as if it was very important to him, or perhaps he was so scared that he fell down and couldn’t get up.
The boy was about half a meter away from the car. Seeing this, Mi Wan calmed down a bit, took a deep breath, then squatted down and softly asked the little boy, "Hey kid, did you hurt yourself? Can you stand up?"
Upon hearing Mi Wan’s voice, the boy slowly opened his eyes, lifted his head, and looked at Mi Wan with a panicked and uneasy expression. His lips moved slightly and said, "Sister, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to run out."
Mi Wan was momentarily stunned, then she smiled and said, "It’s okay, come, Auntie will help you up."
Whose child is this?
Not only good-looking but also very sensible!
While pondering this, Mi Wan helped the little boy up and patted the dust off his clothes, asking, "Do you feel any pain anywhere?"
The boy did not respond immediately, hesitated for a while, then extended his hand towards Mi Wan.
His fair palm had some abrasions, with fine grains of sand embedded in the wound. Seeing this, a maternal tenderness appeared on Mi Wan’s face, she gently blew on his palm and asked with concern, "Where do you live, little boy? How about Auntie sends you home?"
The boy seemed to be about ten years old, and playing alone without an adult was pretty normal. But Mi Wan had lived in this villa neighborhood for almost three years. Though she wasn’t very familiar with her neighbors, she had at least seen them around. However, she had never seen this boy before.
"That’s my home. My uncle is usually busy with work and has no time to accompany me, so I’m always playing alone." The boy pointed towards a direction with a small, serious face and eyes flashing slight yet deep melancholy.
Mi Wan looked towards the direction the boy pointed to and saw a white European-style house. She remembered that this house had always been empty. It seems the boy had just moved here with his family.
"Would you like to come to my house? I’ll clean your wound," Mi Wan offered without prying further, worried she might unknowingly touch upon something that could sadden the boy.
"Okay," the boy nodded firmly.
Then, Mi Wan opened the car door next to the passenger seat. Once the boy got in and sat down, she walked around the car and sat in the driver’s seat.
"What is your name?" Mi Wan asked the boy, turning her face towards him instead of starting the car immediately.
"He Zerui." The panic and unease had already faded from his small face. There was a peculiar calmness about him, devoid of the innocence characteristic of a child, replaced by an obscure mystery.
Without needing further questioning, Mi Wan instinctively felt that this child was unusual, probably not from an ordinary family.
"Zerui, how about calling your family? Auntie is worried they might be concerned if they can’t find you," Mi Wan said, handing her phone to He Zerui, "Do you remember the number?" ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
"I remember, but I don’t want to disrupt my uncle’s work." Zerui clutched his soccer ball and looked at Mi Wan, saying, "Sister, going to your house might inconvenience you. I think it’s better if I go home."
Earlier, Mi Wan had been referring to herself as "Auntie," but Zerui insisted on calling her "sister."
A mature woman in her thirties being called sister by a child would usually be delighted, and Mi Wan was no exception.
"No!" Mi Wan interrupted Zerui’s attempt to open the car door, smiling, "Zerui, don’t misunderstand. There’s no inconvenience in you coming to Auntie’s house. Perhaps because Auntie has a daughter and is also a mother, I particularly understand the feelings of parents. While work is important to adults, the safety of family is equally significant. If they can’t find you, your uncle would probably struggle to focus on work."
"Okay, I understand." Zerui nodded, then softly requested, "Sister, can you speak to my uncle for me?"
"Sure!" Mi Wan readily agreed, considering that she had almost hit someone’s child, explaining the situation was necessary. Holding the phone, she asked, "Then tell me the phone number!"
Zerui knew the number by heart, blurting it out with ease.
Mi Wan had a remarkably good memory; Zerui only had to say it once, and she memorized the entire string of numbers. She repeated it to Zerui for confirmation, and once verified, she pressed the call button.
Beeep... beeep...
There was no ringtone set, only the continuous beeping sound. Mi Wan had already organized her words, but waited for a while, listening until the busy tone indicating the call was not answered.
"Did my uncle not answer?" Seeing Mi Wan’s hand with the phone drop, Zerui’s small face turned solemn. Quickly, his expression shifted to a questioning look, transitioning so fast that Mi Wan barely noticed the difference.
"Yes." Mi Wan nodded slightly, guessing, "Maybe your uncle is busy?"
"Perhaps call again? Uncle said that if the phone rings more than twice, it signifies something important," Zerui suggested.
