"Thank you, senator."

Blaze humbly approached the Senator's bedside and sat down, perched on the edge of the chair like someone sitting on hot coal. His arms were resting on his thigh and his heart was drumming loudly in his chest as he met Amelia's intense gaze.

It felt as though her eyes were an advanced X-ray machine scanning his deepest thoughts for anything offensive.

"Senator Shawls, I can't express how disappointed I have been in myself ever since my last disgraceful act that put you in this state. There is no level of excuse I would give to justify my unruly action. It was immature, pointless and senseless."

The senator chuckled briefly but didn't say anything to interrupt Blaze.

"Saying I'm sorry is not enough for what I did, because it wouldn't get you back on your feet at the moment. Neither will it take away the pains you've been through. Nevertheless...."

"Let me stop you there." Senator Gregory interrupted Blaze, his eyes beaming with pride and affection.

"I heard everything you said this morning when we spoke on the phone. So there's no need to repeat yourself. I have already forgiven you and I bear no grudges."

"Thank you, sir." A warm appreciative smile etched across Blaze's lips as his gaze met Amelia's stunned expression.

"You have forgiven him?" Amelia snapped her gaze to her doubt lacing her tone.

"Yes, dear. It was a mistake. To air is human."

Amelia huffed but didn't say anything.

"Owning up to your mistake is always the first step in the right direction." The senator continued, turning this attention back to Blaze. "I know you didn't intend for the accident that happened. However, these accidents occur for a reason. It opens our eyes to little things we sometimes overlook. It helps us see our mistakes and vulnerabilities. It enlightens us and helps us make better decisions in the future."

Blaze nodded, agreeing to everything the senator said.

"In all honesty, I'm happy this accident happened even though I do not find it palatable."

"Huh!" Amelia furrowed her brows. "What are you trying to say, Daddy?"

The senator smiled and patted his daughter tenderly on the cheek before explaining.

"What I'm trying to say is this. Thanks to this unfortunate accident, I got to know that I will be expecting my second grandchild."

"Oh!" Amelia chuckled, even though she didn't agree with her father's statement knowing that Gwen's child wasn't his but Matt's.

"Also, thanks to the accident, I got to discover that you both were practically strangers to one another when you entered into a loveless contract marriage for a year." The senator pointed out, causing Amelia to lower her gaze in embarrassment.

Even Blaze felt slightly uncomfortable, especially with the term, loveless.

"Senator, please accept my sincere apologies concerning this matter. It is true we did enter into this marriage as strangers. But over time, I have grown to love your daughter." Blaze's hopeful gaze shifted to Amelia. "As a matter of fact, I'm crazily in love with her.

Blaze watched Amelia turn her flushed face sideways. He smiled as he said.

"I am hoping that with your blessings, we could correct our mistakes and do things the right way."

Senator Gregory silently observed the couple before responding.

"You have my approval to set the records straight as long as it's what the both of you want. But you must first deal with this issue about your ex and her madness." The senator's voice became all serious. "I won't have a mad woman running around and threatening my daughter's well-being. This has got to stop."

"I'm already working on that, senator," Blaze replied grimly.

"You better. And Amelia, I do not approve of your method of confrontation, yesterday. Are you aware of the number of calls I've been receiving since that incident? There are better and more civilized ways to deal with such problems."

"I'm sorry, Dad. I was so angry and I wanted her to feel my pain." Amelia pouted, making Blaze's fist clench.

"I perfectly understand. But next time, do not confront such a malicious woman that way. The tables could easily turn around and you will become the victim."

Amelia nodded, stroking the bed sheet, her heart heavy and dampened.

"Now, back to the matter of your mother-in-law."

Amelia lifted her eyes to look at her father. "What about her?" She asked.

"Well, your husband and I have agreed that it is best if we were both in the same hospital so that we could reduce the stress of the back-and-forth movement."

"But this is where you're currently receiving treatment. You can't just abandon it to start afresh." Amelia countered, her forehead furrowed.

"I'm not abandoning my treatment to start afresh, dear. I'm simply relocating to the general hospital. I have already spoken to the doctor and he said it was allowed. My medical history will be transferred there too. So you don't have to be worried. Moreover, I don't want you moving up and down in your condition just to see either one of us. We are both your parents and I know you love and care for us. Being in the same facility would make things easier and it will give me a chance to also see Maria in person."

Amelia's shoulders slumped. "Fine. Since your mind is already made up, I guess there is nothing much for me to say."

"Of course, you have a say. That is why we haven't done anything until we got your permission."

"We?!" Amelia eyed Blaze.

"Did I say something wrong?" The senator raised an eyebrow.

"No. It's fine. You have my approval."

"Thank you." Blaze beamed in appreciation.

"Thanks for understanding my dear." The senator pulled Amelia closer and kissed her on the head.

"I'll go start the arrangement while I give you two some time alone." Blaze slowly stood up,

his heart filled with joy at the success recorded so far.

"It's alright. Thanks."

As Amelia watched Blaze exit the room, a captivating smile lingered on her face which didn't go unnoticed by her father.
