Chapter 2711 - A Mouse’s Marriage

Inside the inauspicious zone, all was shrouded in mist. The path ahead was unclear.

Su Yi had planned to stop after entering the mist, check the situation behind him, then decide his next moves.

But against all expectations, upon entering the area shrouded in mist, the stars shifted rapidly before his very eyes.

It wasn’t an illusion; time and space were transforming.

It was as if he’d entered a natural formation, and it was shifting positions around him!

Anyone yet to achieve Eternity would have died by now. The movements of time and space would have shattered their bodies and obliterated their souls.

But that naturally wasn’t a problem for Su Yi. He pondered briefly, then took action. With every step he took, time and space solidified beneath his feet, becoming as firm as stone.

No matter how space transformed around him, his path remained unaffected.

If time and space were a current, then with every step Su Yi took, he landed on one of the rocks obstructing its flow. No matter how the current assailed him, it couldn’t knock him off course.

Suddenly, a dazzling streak of firelight flashed into being and hurtled toward Su Yi.

He raised his hand and tapped. The firelight instantly froze in place.

Upon closer inspection, the “firelight” was actually a piece of skeletal finger, the bone swathed in dense, baleful energies. It struggled violently as if alive.

Su Yi raised his hand and pulled it toward him for a closer look.

The bone blazed with baleful flames, and a male face the size of a broadbean floated above it. His hair was disheveled, his expression hideously contorted and fierce.

Su Yi could keenly sense that a strange power was attacking his heart and soul.

It was quite the terrifying onslaught. Prior to achieving Eternity, Su Yi would have had to expend a bit of effort to counter it.

But now, he didn’t need to do anything. The sheer strength of his heart and soul was enough to neutralize the attack.

It was as harmless as a clear breeze.

“Can you speak?” Su Yi looked at the face the size of a broad bean.

The man’s eyes were red as blood. He opened his mouth and let out a bestial roar.

Su Yi furrowed his brow.

He casually undid the seal, and the finger bone broke free. The male face transformed into a wisp of firelight, flashed through the void, and appeared in Su Yi’s sea of consciousness.

He instantly transformed into a ten-thousand-foot figure, his whole body emanating baleful, inauspicious power.

His aura wasn’t one whit weaker than an Unfettered Realm Eternal’s!

But before that enormous figure could do anything, Su Yi’s entire sea of consciousness suddenly lit up with dazzling light.

The man instinctively looked up, then froze, stunned in place.

An endlessly enormous soul avatar sat cross-legged in Su Yi’s sea of consciousness. Even just seated there, he seemed immeasurably, endlessly grand and imposing. Dense power of the Grand Dao poured down from on high, forming arcs of divine light that protected the soul avatar on all sides.

The ten-thousand-foot figure seemed as paltry and insignificant as a speck of dust by comparison.

“Don’t be nervous. I’ll ask you once more: can you speak?” asked the avatar, taking on Su Yi’s appearance. He gazed down at the minuscule male figure, his gaze gentle.

The man just stood there in a daze, eyes empty save for terror and unease.

Moments later, he turned to flee!

But this was Su Yi’s sea of consciousness. It was endlessly vast, enormous beyond measure. No matter where the man fled, he was effectively right under Su Yi’s nose.

“It seems you’re just another brainless inauspicious spirit.” A soft sigh rang out, and a finger descended from the heavens, crushing the ten-thousand-foot figure into pieces.

Wisps of baleful energy emerged, but before they could dissipate, the power of Su Yi’s soul eliminated them.

Meanwhile, in the outside world, Su Yi crushed the bone into powder.

He didn’t find this a pity. He could tell that the bone was possessed; that male face had undoubtedly been an inauspicious spirit.

And Su Yi had long since learned of inauspicious spirits from Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran.

Those inauspicious spirits with no awareness might have seemed weak, but in the eyes of those who’d only overcome their Eternal Tribulations, they were terrifying monsters capable of devouring their hearts and souls.

But those inauspicious spirits who retained their awareness were even more fearsome!

Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran tried and failed to break into Eternity three times. Each attempt failed at the last step precisely because she’d encountered inauspicious spirits’ ferocious attacks.

However, according to Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran, the odds of running into inauspicious spirits while traversing the Eternal Barrier were infinitesimally small.

She’d only been targeted because of the special treasures she carried.

Now, when he saw the true nature of inauspicious spirits, Su Yi felt a bit confused. They were far, far weaker than he’d imagined...

Perhaps those inauspicious spirits still in possession of their rationality are different, thought Su Yi.

As he pondered, he continued on his journey. He was already certain that the enemies pursuing him had stopped outside this misty stretch of time and space.

But Su Yi didn’t dare to get complacent.

After all, his enemies were extraordinarily capable. They were clearly no ordinary people, yet they’d stopped here, not daring to venture into the mist. That implied that this place was dangerous!

On the road ahead, several other inauspicious spirits attacked Su Yi. They came in all shapes and sizes. Some were just half a head, while others were just a mouth of sharp, pearly teeth. Some had no body at all, just spirits possessing bloody robes.

But without exception, none of them had any awareness. In the end, Su Yi killed them all with ease.

All of this made Su Yi increasingly confused. Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran said that even Eternals pale at the mere mention of inauspicious spirits, so why have the ones I’ve been running into been so weak?

He continued, just like that, for about an hour before the mists on the road ahead shifted, revealing a floating continent covered in mountains and auspicious clouds. It looked like an otherworldly pure land.

Su Yi noticed that the nearby temporal power had changed, shifting continuously and growing calmer, like flowing river water pouring into a still lake.

Su Yi was just about to continue when something unexpected happened.

A strange procession appeared in the distant mist.

The front of the procession was a group of hideous old mice dressed in celebratory red, tooting horns, beating gongs, and pounding on drums, as if preparing to welcome a bride.

Behind them, four old mice hefted a rotting coffin. A blood-red lantern dangled from each of its four corners, and each of the lanterns was adorned with “囍,” the character for “double happiness.”

An old woman walked alongside the cauldron, dressed in bright red. She had triangular eyes and deathly pale skin, with a thick layer of blush on her cheeks. Her silver hair was combed and neatly arranged.

At the tail end of the procession were numerous others, men and women of all ages. There were at least one hundred of them.

Su Yi could tell at a glance that all of them were inauspicious spirits. All of them emanated dense, impenetrable, baleful energy.

The procession had appeared silently, seemingly out of nowhere. It was extraordinarily unsettling.

The hideous mice swung their heads and looked like they were playing their instruments, but they made no sound whatsoever.

Similarly, the hundreds of inauspicious spirits at the tail end of the procession looked as if they were laughing and chatting amongst themselves, but they made no sound, either.

Su Yi stood at a distance, watching these scenes play out. He was surprised, but more than that, fascinated.

Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran had told him about this very wedding procession. He wouldn’t have guessed he’d get the chance to see it for himself.

But who is the bride? Su Yi wondered. And who is the groom?

As he pondered, the procession entered that floating, otherworldly pure land, then vanished.

Sovereign Venerate Ling Ran said that when she encountered this procession, a woman’s voice emanated from the coffin and invited her to share in the festivities. Why haven’t they invited me? Su Yi grumbled to himself, a bit disappointed.

But then, an aged voice echoed through his ears. “My young friend, today is our master’s day of celebration. Are you here to join us for his wedding feast?”

A smile tugged at Su Yi’s lips, and he said with delight, “It would be my honor to attend.”

He looked over and saw that a figure had silently appeared in the distance, a deathly pale old man with a round black cap. His hands were hidden in his sleeves, and his eyes emanated strange, blood-red, misty light.

When he heard Su Yi’s response, the old man grinned, revealing pearly white teeth. Pearly white, that is, save for the blood and flesh still stuck in the gaps. It was still dripping, but just as it seemed like it would leave his mouth, the old man licked his lips and gulped it down.

He smiled, the seemingly friendly expression utterly unsettling, and clasped his fist. “You’re a guest, and you came all this way. We naturally have no reason to refuse you, but... have you perhaps brought a wedding gift?”

Su Yi was stunned. “A wedding gift?”

He was about to say more when the old man’s blood-red eyes flashed. “My master has no shortage of external treasures. He simply requires a show of heartfelt sincerity and congratulations.”

Su Yi’s eyes flashed. “What kind of gift counts as a show of ‘heartfelt sincerity and congratulations'?”

He’d just noticed that the hands hidden in the old man’s sleeves were those of a rodent, complete with sharp claws!

The old man smiled faintly. “It seems to this old man that your heart, liver, and soul would make an ample gift.”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, the surrounding mists transformed into countless criss-crossing chains, thoroughly binding Su Yi.

The old man laughed. “Don’t be afraid. Offer your heart, liver, and soul, and you won’t just be able to attend the wedding; you’ll even be able to serve by my master’s side going forward. That’s worth more than eight lifetimes of accumulated karmic merit!”

As he spoke, he arrived before Su Yi, raised his hand, revealed his sharp black claws, and aimed for Su Yi’s heart.
