Chapter 2710 - The Heart-Binding Bells, the Turbulent Space Pennant

The black sheep was unconscious and entirely unaware of her surroundings.

Just as Su Yi was pondering what best to do with her, she shrank, transforming into a black jade pendant the size of an infant’s fist.

It depicted a black sheep reclining amidst chaos clouds, fast asleep.

Su Yi couldn’t help but find this surprising. The pendant’s aura was exceptional, too. This was obviously a wondrous sealing power.

There was no doubt about it. This was Old Lord Gouchen’s work. When he let the sheep out to pasture, all he had to do was bring the jade pendants.

Su Yi pondered briefly, then slipped the jade pendant into his sleeve and sauntered off.

The black sheep had told him that he’d reach the River of Destiny within fifteen minutes. Now, he’d have to go the rest of the way himself.

He wasn’t particularly lonely, nor was he afraid. This was simply the nature of pursuing the Grand Dao.

Su Yi was, however, eager to see the River of Destiny.

The unknown was terrifying, but it also instilled longing in people’s hearts.

In the past, no matter where Su Yi went, he had the memories of his past lives to guide him. Everything felt familiar.

That was true in the Human Realm, in the Immortal Realm, and even in the God Domain.

But this was different. He hadn’t fused with Xiao Jian’s Dao Imprint, nor had he fused with Jiang Wuchen’s.

The River of Destiny was still full of unknowns, and his heart was full of anticipation.

Along the way, Su Yi started planning his next steps. When I reach the River of Destiny, I’ve got to absorb the power of destiny to strengthen my Eternal Dao Root. Then, I can use my Eternal Source to quench the Sword of Proximity.

In his eyes, cultivating always came first.

He was already a Dao Lord of the first realm of Eternity, but his foundations in the Grand Dao lacked tempering.

The Sword of Proximity was a secret chaos treasure, but its strength was limited. It was far from a true Eternal weapon.

Fortunately, he’d gathered no small number of fragmented Eternal treasures, as well as all manner of Eternal divine materials and Eternal sources.

All he needed to do was continuously feed and temper the Sword of Proximity, and he’d be able to improve it into a true Eternal weapon.

That bastard Lu Shi still owes me the Writing Brush of Genesis. Next time I see him, I’ll have to demand an explanation, thought Su Yi.

Back in the God Domain, Lu Shi and Su Yi had made a bet. If Lu Shi lost in the Battle for Order, he’d give Su Yi the Writing Brush of Genesis. If Su Yi lost, he’d have to give Lu Shi the rest of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos.

Lu Shi’s true body had come to the Battle for Order, watching from the endless expanse of time and space beyond the God Domain. However, when things went south, he turned and fled.

He hadn’t kept his promise, but Su Yi hadn’t forgotten.

Su Yi walked a while longer, then abruptly stopped in place, raised his hand, and tapped. A swath of flowing Dao Light condensed into a mirror.

The Su Yi reflected in the mirror was dressed in blue, his long hair casually tied into a topknot. His features were the same as ever.

But there was a dazed look in his eyes.

It was hard to see oneself clearly. Ultimately, a mirror could only reflect one’s external appearance.

But there was one thing he couldn’t deny. When he saw himself in the mirror, Su Yi knew that the vestiges of the years had been wiped away, and that even just standing there quietly, his whole body emanated an air of vibrant youthfulness.

Like the sun of a new day.

After a while, Su Yi laughed to himself and drew his finger through the air. The mirror promptly vanished.

He wove his fingers together, then placed his hands behind his head and continued on his journey. Inwardly, he was wondering what would happen if some old-timer proficient in determining bone age tried to guess how old he was. I bet they’d have no idea.

Of course, that’s secondary. What really matters is that my heart has changed.

Su Yi had been sensing his changes along the way. Whether he teased the sheep or argued with her, it came straight from the heart, natural and free of artifice.

Su Yi wasn’t trying to suppress anything. He was just trying to sense his changes.

He hadn’t lost his confidence and pride. He just didn’t need to display them on the surface all the time.

A heavy sword needed no blade, and true mastery looked like foolishness.

This was much the same.

As he walked and pondered, he suddenly heard the ringing of the bell. It seemed near, yet far away; there was no telling where it came from.

Before Su Yi could react, time and space shifted around him, as if countless turbulent currents exploded at once, and everything was turned on its head.

Practically simultaneously, a fierce gale of spacetime power swept toward Su Yi.

Traversing the endless void of time and space was fundamentally dangerous. Only Eternals could traverse spacetime barriers safely.

But when problems arose, even Eternals could get lost.

Su Yi dodged immediately, but no matter where he went, the spacetime power followed, like a lingering ghost.

The area around Su Yi shifted dramatically. Currents of power exploded, and everything was in chaos.

Su Yi frowned. He dared say with certainty that this was somehow connected to the ringing of that bell.

But he had no time to give the matter. The spacetime winds followed him like a shadow, almost sweeping across him on numerous occasions.

Strangest of all, even when Su Yi tried to suppress them, it was to no avail!

But there was nothing for it. All Su Yi could do was shift through time and space, as if someone were chasing him.

In truth, he was dodging the sweeping spacetime power.

But then, the ethereal ringing of the bell rang out once more, airy and ethereal. No one knew where it came from.

It seems one of the old-timers watching from the shadows has set their sights on me, thought Su Yi. He was already certain that this wasn’t a natural disaster. On the contrary, someone was targeting him!

The troublesome part was that he couldn’t tell where they were hidden. All he could do was flee.

Everywhere he went, time and space were in chaos. It was quite precarious, as if he were facing one assassination attempt after another.

The situation continued for the time it took to burn a stick of incense.

“What’s that?” Su Yi suddenly saw a swath of misty gray clouds surging in the distance, fully blocking off the path ahead.

The gray mist was silent, but instinct told Su Yi that it was extraordinarily perilous!

But Su Yi couldn’t turn back now. The spacetime windstorm was following him, as relentless as maggots gnawing on a bone.

Without hesitation, Su Yi flashed through the air and shot into that stretch of misty gray clouds.

The moment he vanished, the spacetime wind pursuing him stopped outside the area covered in mist, then exploded and faded away.

Two figures appeared shortly after.

The first was a hunched old man in black. He gripped a black pennant.

The other was a woman in purple, with snowy skin and glowing green hair. She held a string of bells carved out of bone.

The two of them gazed into the area covered in mist, their brows furrowed.

“Su Yi must be carrying some sort of unique secret treasure. That’s how he resisted the power of my Heart-Binding Bells,” said the woman, a dark expression on her face.

The bells were her natal treasure. When they rang, the sound was like invisible fetters that bound her enemies’ hearts.

Those beneath the Silence Realm could in no way withstand their power. The sound instantly rendered them lambs to the slaughter.

Yet Su Yi had somehow blocked the bells’ power, and for enough time to burn a stick of incense at that!

This was completely outside the purple-robed man’s predictions.

“It’s a pity about the Turbulent Space Pennant the Heavenly Sovereign gave me,” said the hunchbacked old man, his expression unsightly.

The Turbulent Space Pennant could stir up spacetime power, transforming its currents into a killer weapon. It was incomparably rare and precious.

Divine Reverence Pavilion had appraised it as a first-tier weapon among spacetime secret treasures!

In the hands of a Heavenly Monarch, even other Heavenly Monarchs risked losing themselves to the turbulent spacetime currents.

The old man was no Heavenly Monarch, so he couldn’t display the Turbulent Space Pennant’s full power. Still, he should have been more than enough to defeat an Unfettered Realm cultivator.

Yet Su Yi had somehow escaped!

This left the old man feeling quite stifled. He couldn’t even imagine how an Unfettered Realm cultivator had pulled this off.

“So many of us died outside the God Domain. That’s more than enough to prove how difficult an opponent Su Yi is,” said the woman in purple, twirling a lock of her hair. “I trust that even if we fail, the Heavenly Sovereign won’t chastise us too harshly when we deliver our report.”

She paused, then laughed and pointed into the distant stretch of murky gray mist. “Besides, he fled into that inauspicious zone. There’s no way that’ll end well for him!”

The River of Destiny was enormous and grand, with countless stretches of spacetime distributed across both sides of the river.

Those places covered in strange gray mist were among the most dangerous of them. They were known as inauspicious zones, as all of them were home to terrifying natural disasters and terrifying inauspicious spirits!

They were called that because they were so strange and inauspicious, but Eternals knew that they were really the vengeful souls of those who’d perished beneath their Karmic Tribulations on the River of Destiny.

“An ancient tome said that every inauspicious zone is presided over by a powerful inauspicious spirit. These powerful spirits are extraordinary. They’re the strongest inauspicious spirits around, and they devour hearts and souls for sustenance,” said the woman. “Tell me, if Su Yi runs into life-or-death peril, will he come running back?”

The old man snorted coldly. “If he dies, how could he possibly attempt to flee?”

The woman sighed. “But if we just give up and leave, how will we report to the Heavenly Sovereign?”

The thin old man stiffened, then fell silent.

“The Heavenly Sovereign might not care about the outcome of this Battle for Order, but how could the sect leader not care?” the woman in purple said icily. “How many people on the River of Destiny are laughing at Sevendeaths Court even now?”

“Then do you think we should charge in after him, or wait here for him to come back?” asked the hunched old man.

“Let’s wait a while longer,” said the woman. She couldn’t disguise her fear at the thought of entering an inauspicious zone. “I heard that the higher your cultivation, the more dangerous inauspicious zones are. Given our strength, if we enter recklessly, there’s no telling what kind of disasters we’ll invite.”

The old man nodded. “Let’s wait here for a month. Once time is up, we’ll leave immediately, whether he shows up or not.”

The woman in purple twirled her hair and flashed a charming smile. “As you say.”

The old man quietly gulped. The skank’s charm arts just keep getting more and more bewitching!
