Finding light in the darkest places—through love-Chapter 47 – Coming Home
Chapter 47 - 47 – Coming Home
Evelyn's flight landed just as the morning sun painted the sky in hues of pink and gold. As she stepped off the plane, a strange mixture of relief and anticipation settled in her chest. She was home.
The airport was buzzing with travelers, but all Evelyn could focus on was the text she had sent Adrian the night before.
Would he be waiting? Would things be the same? She shook off the doubt and pulled her suitcase behind her, stepping into the arrival hall.
Her eyes scanned the crowd, and then—there he was. Adrian.
He stood near the entrance, hands shoved into his pockets, shifting his weight slightly as if he wasn't sure how she would react.
The moment their eyes met, a breath she didn't realize she had been holding escaped her lips.
"Adrian,"
she called softly.
He smiled, that familiar, heart-stopping smile she had missed far more than she was willing to admit.
"Welcome back, Evie."

**Unspoken Words**
The car ride home was filled with comfortable silence, interrupted only by the occasional radio hum. Evelyn kept stealing glances at Adrian, trying to decipher his expression. He looked the same, yet something was in his eyes—something guarded.
"So,"
Adrian finally broke the silence, keeping his eyes on the road,
"Paris didn't steal you away after all."
Evelyn chuckled, though her voice held a hint of nervousness.
"Turns out, it wasn't where I was meant to be."
Adrian nodded but said nothing. The unspoken words between them felt heavy, pressing against Evelyn's chest.
She wanted to tell him everything—the moment of clarity she had in Paris, the realization that no matter how far she ran, her heart always belonged here. Belong to him. But the words refused to come out.
Instead, she asked,
"Did you miss me?"
Adrian let out a small laugh, shaking his head. "You were only gone for a couple of weeks."
"That's not an answer."
He glanced at her, his expression softening.
"Yeah, Evie. I missed you."
Her heart swelled at his words, but before she could say anything, they pulled up in front of her apartment.

**A Familiar Comfort**
Evelyn sighed as she stepped into her place, the scent of home washing over her. It wasn't Paris, but that was the point. It was hers.
Adrian followed her inside, placing her suitcase near the couch.
"You should rest. Jet lag is going to hit you soon."
She nodded, but instead of moving toward her bedroom, she turned to him.
"Adrian... Can we talk?"
He hesitated but then gave a slow nod.
"Yeah. Let's talk."
She took a deep breath.
"I realized something in Paris. I kept thinking I needed to go somewhere new to find myself, to figure out what I wanted. But everything I was looking for... it was here all along."
Adrian stayed silent, watching her carefully.
"I was scared,"
she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Scared that what I feel might change things between us. But I don't want to keep running from it."
Adrian's jaw tensed slightly, and for a moment, she feared she had misread everything. But then, he stepped closer.
"What are you saying, Evie?"
She met his gaze, vulnerability shining through her eyes.
"I'm saying that I think I've been in love with you for a long time."
Adrian exhaled sharply as if he had been holding in those words himself. He took another step forward, closing the distance between them.
"Evelyn, if you knew how long I've been waiting to hear you say that..."
Her breath hitched.
"You have?"
He let out a soft chuckle.
"Of course, I have. But I didn't want to push you. I wanted you to figure it out on your own."
Tears pricked at her eyes, not out of sadness but out of sheer relief.
"I'm here, Adrian. And I'm not going anywhere."
A slow smile spread across his face before he reached out, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Good,"
he murmured.
"Because I'm not letting you go."
And as Adrian pulled her into his arms, Evelyn knew—this was home. He was home.
