Favorite of the Beast-world: I Got Rich Through Farming-Chapter 353 - 234: A Complete Monster and It’s Up to You
"Ling Hong!"
Seeing the tall figure lift the door flap, An Jin sprang up from her stool. She jogged over and took his arm, a smile on her face. "When did you get back? Why didn’t you say anything beforehand?"
He had been gone for a month and a half, and they hadn’t seen each other for nearly two months. The feeling was very much one of "absence makes the heart grow fonder."
"You... broke through?" An Jin’s gaze fell on the silver mark in the center of his forehead, and she spoke with pleasant surprise.
She couldn’t help but reach out to touch it. Her delicate fingertips traced the sharp line of his jaw, climbing all the way up to the tips of his long eyebrows.
"Mhm." Ling Hong smiled and nodded, ducking his head slightly. He nuzzled her cheek with his cool nose, obediently letting her touch him to her heart’s content.
He didn’t want to tell her a single thing about the nearly two months of desperate battles and narrow escapes from death. He had already used his Healing Ability to quickly mend the wounds on his body, doing his best to present a relaxed and cheerful appearance for her.
"Don’t worry, I just got back not long ago." His eyes rested on the top of her head, on her soft hair. His eyelashes fluttered, and he softened his deep, magnetic voice as much as possible. "Originally, I was planning to find a place in the city to rest for a couple of days before coming to see you, but I unexpectedly ran into a group of suspicious-looking Beastmen..."
She looked up at him. "What people?"
"Have you been secretly investigating people from the Beast Slave King City recently?"
Hearing him say that, An Jin knew exactly who those people were. She nodded and told him everything that had happened.
"I know all about it. I happened to overhear their plan earlier. I’m sorry, I came back too late. Otherwise, I might have been able to stop them sooner." A hint of guilt colored Ling Hong’s gaze.
Thinking about how his mate had been so frightened recently, he couldn’t help but pull her into his arms, rubbing his firm jaw against her neck. "But you don’t have to worry now. After I heard their secrets, I tied them up and brought them back. I’ve left them outside. Want me to take you to see them?"
"Okay!"
He took her hand, and with a few strides of his long legs, they were outside the Stone Castle.
Near the edge of the vegetable garden, a pile of over thirty Beastmen were tied together. Most of them were already awake, and they trembled as they looked at Ling Hong.
A few of the Beastmen’s gazes fell on An Jin, who stood behind him. Their greedy eyes lit up, and they secretly extended their sharp claws, beginning to saw away at the vine ropes in the shadows.
How could such small movements possibly escape Ling Hong’s notice?
He promptly knocked those few Beastmen unconscious again. The reason he hadn’t just killed them all was that An Jin had some questions for them.
"You’re from the Beast Slave King City, aren’t you?" Her gaze fell on the thick cloaks they wore. She didn’t see any slave brands, but her question was phrased as a sharp confirmation.
Since they had already been captured, the Beastmen knew their identities had been exposed. Arguing was pointless.
Most of them lowered their heads and said nothing. A few of the more timid Beastmen nodded tremulously, earning a threatening glare from the only Old Beastman among them.
This grim-faced Old Beastman seemed to be the leader of the group.
"Answer a few of my questions, and I might consider letting you go," An Jin said calmly, her eyes sweeping over the most defiant Old Beastman before turning to the wavering crowd.
"W-We were forced!" a Beastman cried out. "We’re actually just Beastmen from ordinary tribes! We were coerced by that person, and we had no choice but to sneak in here to kidnap you..."
Seeing as they were doomed either way, the Beastmen threw all caution to the wind and began sobbing and sniveling.
"That person is a lunatic! No, to be precise, he’s not even a Beastman anymore. He’s a monster! An out-and-out monster! A crazy monster!"
"He planted a slave brand on every one of us! We have to obey his orders. If we fail our mission, our bodies will explode and we’ll die..."
Ling Hong’s aura was sharp and terrifying. His fists cracked loudly as he clenched them, and he asked in a cold voice, "Who is that person?" 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
’Someone actually had the audacity to try and kidnap his mate?!’
"I know! I know! If I tell you his name, you’ll let me go, right?" one Beastman shouted excitedly.
"Ye! You can’t say that name!" the Old Beastman roared like a fierce beast. But the other Beastman couldn’t hear a thing now.
"That monster’s name is—" The moment he opened his mouth, his entire body convulsed and collapsed to the ground.
His eyes rolled back into his head, leaving only the eerie whites showing.
Amid everyone’s horrified gasps, he first coughed up a large amount of white foam. Then, a swarm of black insects began scrambling to crawl out of his ears, nose, mouth, and even his back.
The black insects covered the Beastman’s corpse like a thick blanket, leaving not a single gap. The sight of the dense, writhing mass was enough to make one’s skin crawl.
"It’s the slave seed!" someone in the crowd yelled. Immediately after, the insects began scrambling toward the other captive Beastmen.
Countless fine arcs of lightning gathered in Ling Hong’s palm. He whipped them downward like a dazzling lash, and the CRACKLING energy scorched all the frantically climbing black insects. They flipped onto their backs, wisps of steam rising from their cooked bodies.
"...What was that?" An Jin was also stunned by the sudden turn of events, placing a hand on her chest to calm herself.
Ling Hong shielded her behind him, his gaze sharp as he watched the few black insects that remained in the cracks between the stone bricks. His wolf ears had even popped out subconsciously, twitching twice in the breeze.
"That’s the slave seed. It’s the slave seed that lives inside our bodies, the slave brand that person planted in us. Once we fail a mission, we explode and die along with the seed. That person’s name is also an unspeakable taboo..."
The Old Beastman looked with pity at the corpse, which had been instantly devoured by the black insects, leaving only a skeleton behind. He sighed almost imperceptibly. "For those of us who have been implanted with the slave seed, speaking that person’s name means... *Sigh*. Ye was new. He didn’t know how terrifying the slave seed is."
’No wonder these people still dared to risk their lives to kidnap me, even though they knew about Mi Yin and the others by my side. They were dead either way, so their only choice was to bet everything on kidnapping me for that slim chance of survival.’
"We... we don’t want to die..." they said.
Many began to weep in despair. They weren’t afraid of dying on a hunt or in battle, but they absolutely refused to be manipulated by someone else and blown into a pulp.
"If you had kidnapped Jin, it would have been a dead end for you, too." Ling Hong’s sharp, cold eyes were like shards of ice. He lowered his voice and said coldly, "Were you all a little too confident in yourselves? To actually think you could kidnap someone from right under our noses."
At this, the men fell silent again, lowering their heads in terror and apprehension.
"Jin, what should we do with them? It’s your call." Ling Hong turned his head to look at her, his reaction instinctual.
