Chapter 327: Chapter 212: I Don’t Understand / She Wouldn’t Have the Heart To

Mi Yin’s body went limp as he leaned lazily against the wall. His gaze fell upon the slaughter in the arena below. His eyes were half-closed, a strange red light and a flicker of interest flashing in their depths.

But he quickly sensed An Jin’s discomfort beside him. Snapping out of his reverie, he stepped closer and asked softly, "You don’t like watching this?"

"..." An Jin stared intently at the mangled "thing" not far from her, her face pale. She pressed her lips together, saying nothing.

Suddenly, her view went dark. An arm tightened around her waist. She looked up in astonishment to find him using his tall frame to block her line of sight. "If you don’t like it, we won’t watch. It’s nothing interesting. I’ll take you back."

He wrapped his arm around her waist, and his snake tail smashed the door open, ready to lead her away.

"I don’t quite understand..."

She nestled against him, burying her face in his chest and sighing weakly. "This isn’t what I imagined the Beast Fighting Arena would be like. I just feel... feel like they’ve all suddenly gone mad. There are even Beastmen fighting other Beastmen. No, they’re slaughtering each other..."

’This is the difference between males and females.’ Mi Yin smiled and stroked her soft hair, as if soothing a ruffled cat.

"There’s nothing to be confused about. This is what Beastmen are. The nature of the beast remains in our blood. It’s been this way for thousands of years." This was why they usually avoided females when hunting or killing, afraid they would be frightened and fearful.

"The Beast Fighting Arena is so popular with Beastmen for many reasons. Some want to use it to build their reputation and expand their influence. Some are just after the prize for winning. But most are here for the fight itself—to improve their strength and experience the thrill of victory..."

"As for those who died..." Mi Yin glanced sideways at the Beast Fighting Arena outside the window, a faint, careless smile playing on his lush, vibrant red lips. "That’s because they were too weak. Even if they hadn’t died in the arena, they would have ended up in the belly of some wild beast on a future hunt."

’In the end, the fate of the weak is always the same,’ he thought. ’There’s nothing to pity.’

"Aren’t you going to watch anymore?" she asked, blinking as she saw him about to lead her away.

She had seen how engrossed he’d been just a moment ago. He looked like he had half a mind to jump in with the other Beastmen and dominate the competition.

"...It gets boring if you watch too much."

Mi Yin pulled his gaze away from the window, his interest gone. "I’ve seen far more brutal things," he said dismissively. "This petty squabbling can’t hold my interest anymore. It’s dull."

He looked at her and ruffled her hair. "Besides, you don’t like it. Wouldn’t it be more meaningful to take you back and do something you enjoy?"

"I guess that’s true," she said, letting Mi Yin sweep her up into his arms.

An invisible wave of Energy swept silently across the area. It was the King Beast Domain Mi Yin had placed over the Beast Fighting Arena in advance, covering the entire grounds.

He had originally set it up as a precaution, to prevent any blood-crazed Beastmen from breaking into their private box and potentially harming her.

"Jin’er, wait."

As he retracted his King Beast Domain, his expression suddenly shifted. He frowned, then led her back inside to the large, bright window. "Look. That Beastman in the arena—the scrawny Leopard Beast."

An Jin followed his gaze downward.

The Beastman Mi Yin indicated was an ordinary Fourth Rank, middle-aged Leopard Beast. He had yellow fur, triangular eyes, a long face, and a lean, slender build. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

There was nothing remarkable about him, neither in aptitude nor in appearance.

An Jin didn’t understand what Mi Yin was getting at, but seeing how engrossed he was, she held back her questions and patiently watched the uncomfortable battle unfold.

Facing the Fourth Rank Leopard Beast was a Fifth Rank Bear Beast.

The difference in their builds was like a great chasm. The Leopard Beast, with his thin arms and legs, looked as if he couldn’t withstand a single blow. The massive Bear Beast, on the other hand, was like a small mountain, two or three meters tall. He had a powerful build, fists as big as cooking pots, and muscles and veins that bulged menacingly all over his body.

The brute cracked his thick, short neck like a thug, clenching his fists as his joints CRACKLED. "So you’re my opponent?" he sneered. "A Beastman from such a weak race. You look about as sturdy as a blade of grass. I could crush you with one finger!"

In comparison, the Fourth Rank Leopard Beast looked like a feeble blade of grass, ready to snap at any moment.

There was no suspense; the massive Bear Beast was sure to win.

’Sigh, the power gap is just too wide. This is boring.’

Many Beastmen lost the desire to watch. But many others grew even more excited, their eyes turning bloodshot, eager to see the young Beastman get beaten to a pulp.

Thousands of pairs of bloodshot, crazed eyes were fixed on the arena. Some held their breath, others let out guttural growls. The crowd of spectators was restless and agitated.

Caught up in the tense, urgent atmosphere, An Jin felt her heart clench in spite of herself. Forgetting the gore from before, her gaze locked onto the two Beastmen as they maneuvered and fought in the arena.

The fight was a simple exchange of blows—a bite for a claw. The Leopard Beast used his agility to dodge a few fatal attacks, but ultimately, he couldn’t overcome the gap in their Ranks. The massive Bear Beast finally caught him by the head and slammed him to the ground with a single slap.

BOOM! A section of the arena floor shattered. The Leopard Beast lay trapped in the rubble, letting out a cry as he coughed up a large mouthful of blood.

The crowd stirred with a brief flicker of excitement, but most found it anticlimactic. Shouts rose from the stands: "Get on with the next match!" "This fight was so boring! I thought there’d be a comeback!" "I won my bet, but it wasn’t even fun to watch..."

Amidst the scornful cries of the crowd, the tables suddenly turned. The broken figure trapped in the rubble was yanked to his feet by an invisible thread of power. He then swung his fist, slamming it into the Bear Beast.

Under the stunned eyes of the crowd, the Bear Beast—who had seemed as indestructible as a fortress wall—was sent flying like a kite with its string cut, knocked to the ground by a single punch from the scrawny Beastman.

Another heavy punch, and the brute passed out. ’Passed out? He was knocked out just like that?!’

The crowd erupted.

Having earned his promotion and reward, the Leopard Beast strutted off like a bona fide champion, surrounded by a throng of other Beastmen.

"I saw it," An Jin said softly, her eyes narrowed. "That black thread."

The thread was as fine as air, completely unnoticeable to the average person. But to Mi Yin and An Jin, the black thread the Beastman had so carefully concealed looked as thick as a woolen cord dangling from his limbs.

Without another word, Mi Yin understood. "I’ll go get him."

With the sound of a door opening and closing, the tall figure beside her vanished. An Jin found a chair and sat down. ’A Demon Beastman... here in the city.’

Demon Beastmen were utterly despised by everyone, whether they were ordinary Beastmen or Wandering Beasts. To encounter one was to kill it on sight.

That’s why they had to hide in the shadows like sewer rats.

’This Leopard Beast doesn’t seem very bright,’ she thought, ’coming to the Beast Fighting Arena so openly. I wonder what he was thinking.’

"Let go of me! Who are you?! How dare a Wandering Beast like you kidnap someone in the middle of the city!"

A moment later, a ruckus erupted at the door, filled with shouts and curses. "You damn Wandering Beast! I’ll have the City Lord of this city arrest you, see if I don’t!"

"She wouldn’t have the heart," Mi Yin sneered. He flicked his snake tail, flinging the Leopard Beast viciously into the room, and then lazily slithered in after him.
