Fated To Three, Betrayed By All… Until She Rose.-Chapter 76: Alternate universe.
Leilani.
I do not know for how long I laid on that wet, stinky floor, slipping in and out of consciousness yet and yet again and praying for help. But no help came.
After taking what was needed of me, Kael and Caelum left with the nurses. Abandoning me to die. They didn’t bother to check if I would survive this injustice or not. Didn’t even possess the basic human decency to resuscitate me before leaving. If anything, it seemed like they wanted me dead this time, and I... I would rather go mad in the afterlife, living like a junkie than give them that which they wanted.
I have faced near death situations more times than I can count, and this... this was nothing compared to what they’ve put me through in the past.
It was nothing compared to what my family has done to me all in the name of ’correcting me’. So I would be just fine.
My eyes fluttered open one more time but due to how weak I was, my eyelids felt heavy. My chest felt constricted and my breaths came in shorter pants than was necessary.
Goddess, I may not survive this one.
My body is too weak.
I cannot even stand...
"Leilani!" A voice suddenly screamed just as I heard heavy footsteps rushing into the room. And at first, I thought that I had imagined it, that my severe blood loss had begun to lead to hallucinations. But when I felt warm hands on my face, feverishly checking for movements and my pulse, my heart jumped in my chest.
This was real. There’s someone here!
I would be saved!
"Leilani please wake up!" The voice continued, sounding desperate as I felt myself being hoisted into a strange kind of comfortable warmth. And then I felt movement.
I was being carried. Being helped. But I didn’t have the strength to open my eyes. Even my brain was too fuzzy, I couldn’t make out who the voice belonged to.
Pain shot through my body as I felt myself being lowered into something cushiony. And as soon as I winced, the person froze and I felt the unmistakable sensation of warm breath tickling my face.
They probably had their face close to mine.
"I’m sorry," he said softly. "I just wanted to help you into the back of my car. I know it hurts, and I’m sorry but hang in there... I need to take you to the hospital."
My brows furrowed at the words. Whoever they were sounded sincere... they sounded worried. Afraid even. Warmth bloomed in my chest but I couldn’t bring myself to thank them or open my eyes. I would surely repay them for their kindness one day.
My fingers tightened on their clothes and a weird pleasant emotion zapped through me when warm hands closed on mine before it slowly began to pry my fingers off. "I have to drive you there. You can hold me when we’ve arrived at the hospital and I’m sure you’re safe."
I let go. And so did the warmth once enveloping me leave my side.
I vaguely heard the sound of an engine roaring to life, then the faint whoosh of air slapping at my face as whoever they were drove speedily to the said ’hospital’. And after a long time of unending agony, we arrived somewhere, and the person got out of the car, only to appear moments later beside me to drape their arms around my body.
He carried me the rest of the way until the blinding rays of fluorescent lights overhead flitted through my closed eyelids.
"Alpha!" Someone shouted, then; "Jesus... What happened to her?"
"She’s lost a lot of blood!" The person snapped back quickly, "...please do anything to save her. Her blood type is RH-null. Do you have those available?" He asked, and as soon as I heard that, I froze.
First off, whoever this is was an Alpha.
And they know my blood type? How?
I however pushed these thoughts to the back of my mind upon the realisation that all he wanted to do was save me so I didn’t ask or fight back—not like I had the strength to if I wanted to.
Moments later, I was lowered into something soft and I instantly knew it was a bed. An hospital bed; from the unmistakable stench of antiseptic and disinfectants oozing off of it.
Hushed whispers filled the air around me, followed by the sounds of footsteps— both approaching and retreating as the doctor or doctors began to attend to me. I sighed.
I was being saved.
My eyes fluttered open one more time just then to see a middle-aged looking doctor with a frown on his face as he checked for my pulse. Behind him were about two—three nurses; But towering above them was a large figure, one I never expected to see here. One that made my breath leave me in one heavy whoosh.
And from the worry lines creasing his forehead and the rumples on his clothes, I instinctively knew that he was my saviour.
But how?
Why?
"Leilani, can you see me?" He drawled, waving his hand carefully in my face. And when I wouldn’t react, he turned to the doctor; "I think she’s awake. Is she in shock?"
Goddess, it was the same voice.
The same voice as the one that’s been talking to me for the past one hour or more.
My throat closed up. My eyes watered. And at the moment, I didn’t know whether to be enraged or grateful.
I simply rasped; "Zevran?"
The smile that broke out on his face was real. Too real. It made my heart skip and my already weak body tremble.
His fingers lightly grazed my face, his voice soft as he muttered; "You made it. You made it Leilani. I’m so happy. And I’m so sorry I didn’t arrive earlier!"
That had me frowning slightly, wondering if this was an alternate universe where Zevran cares. If this was planet Pluto where I was being saved by the brother of those who had hurt me.
But before the questions could leave my mouth, my eyes fluttered close. I sunk into darkness.
—
Caelum.
"This bitch struck me!" I screamed at the top of my voice in disbelief, the pain in my mouth making it hard to breathe. "Why does it even hurt so badly? How’s she so strong after I’d drained that much blood from her?"
My eyes thinned as I turned to glare at her now fallen frame, not missing the small smile on her face even as she was unconscious.
She’d liked it... had revelled in the high of inflicting me with pain.
I turned to Kael to find him staring between us with shock written all over his face— well, I couldn’t blame him. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"Kael, this bitch hit me!" I growled, but he wasn’t looking at me, he was looking at her!
He shook his head as if in a daze and whispered; "You lost a tooth!"
That was when it dawned on me. I knew I was in intense pain but it had never registered in my head that Leilani’s punch could do that much damage.
My eyes briefly landed on the patch of blood on the floor— the one I had spat out, and my heart dropped when I saw the fallen tooth in it, standing out like it was mocking me.
—As if it was saying; "Hey look, a wolfless girl did this to you!"
I seethed; "let’s go!"
"But what about her?" Kael protested, but I could see that he was reluctant to save her. If anything, he looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here.
I shrugged. "If she can fight me, she can take care of herself." And with that, I turned to the nurses and drawled; "Take those things out!"
Kael leaned over Leilani to check for her pulse and after realizing that she still had one, he walked out, leaving me behind with her.
But I was still stewing in rage. I still hated her for being such a bitch— a bitch who had now taken my tooth with her.
"You said I’d donated my blood to you, Caelum. Now, watch as you’ll donate your tooth to me!"
Her words echoed in my ear, and in annoyance, I kicked her hard in the ribs, watching as her eyes fluttered open and then went shut.
And I should be ashamed of myself for hitting a woman, but for the first time, I didn’t care. I couldn’t bring myself to.
She can rot in here for all I care.
