Fated To Three, Betrayed By All… Until She Rose.-Chapter 263: Element of grief.
Leilani.
For a moment, I was so stunned, I couldn’t bring myself to move or speak, so all I could do was stay there, stiff as a statue, while Kael continued to hug me, his stubble brushing against my forehead as he muttered under his breath;
"I am really so so sorry! I wish there was something I could do for you!"
While he spoke, I hardly listened. Why? Because I was lost listening to the way his heart was beating heavily in his chest.
I was lost wondering why his featherlight touches tingled so much.
He pulled away from me suddenly and cleared his throat, his cheeks taking on a faint pinkish color as he rushed out;
"I didn’t mean to... I never... Leilani, I am sorry for touching you. I do not understand what has been wrong with me but I could... I should..."
"You should take your leave now," I answered a little too coldly, not missing the way he froze for a second before lifting his eyes to meet mine. And I do not know why, but I immediately felt like a piece of shit.
I felt like an ingrate. A nasty one at that.
So I gulped, turned away and hoping to salvage the situation, added; "I was guessing that you’ll be tired after everything. And also, thank you for coming to save me when you did. I do not know what I would’ve done without you tonight." 𝒻𝓇𝑒𝘦𝘸𝑒𝒷𝓃ℴ𝑣𝘦𝑙.𝒸ℴ𝘮
His face colored a bright shade of pink again, but then he turned away so fast one would think he was scared of looking at me.
"You have to stop thanking me, Leilani. These are the things I should’ve been doing for you, even though not as your mate but as your Alpha... instead, I was being a piece of shit, angry at you because of things I heard about you from someone who I should’ve known I didn’t like you one bit."
Chalice.
He didn’t have to spell out the name for me to know, but deciding to push that thought off, I coughed. Because what else was there to say to him besides clearing my throat?
A moment of silence passed between us, one that was very uncomfortable because I could very much feel his intense stares boring holes into the side of my head. He watched me carefully like a predator taunting its prey, and just when I had begun to think that he wouldn’t say anything else to me, he blurted;
"Why did you do it? Were you forced?"
I frowned, perplexed. "Forced to do what?"
The way he glanced away again made me somewhat antsy. And when he still wouldn’t respond, I was forced to pat his arm, my voice small as I asked again; "What was I forced to do?"
"Were you forced to lie against us— I mean my brothers and I— about Jennifer."
Jennifer.
Jennifer, dead my used- to- be- friend.
Jennifer whose death had caused quite a stir in the pack.
My hands trembled slightly but I clasped them on my thighs, hating the way the name echoed in my head over and over again like hollow sounds from an abandoned cave, twisting my guts until I feared I would become nauseous.
Tears burned at the corners of my eyes as memories— happy ones— rushed into my head and I turned away, wiping at them before they would fall. But that action, however small it was, Kael caught it.
His hand shot up to grab mine before I could pull away and I jerked when those nasty jolts of electricity rushed between our joined skins.
I tried to speak but my tongue felt tied or should I say glued to the roof of my mouth.
And amidst the confusion I felt, my anger soared. I was angry at the triplets, at their pack, at their parents who could overturn a case just by throwing in a bit of cash here or there.
"You nearly ruined our lives," he continued, snapping me out of my thoughts. "I know we were bad to you. I know we were evil and turned you away when you needed us the most, but do you know what that almost did to us? Goddess, we could never solve the case due to the way you—"
*Crash!*
My palm connected with his face before I could stop myself and as I now looked into his eyes filled with confusion and frustration, I only felt disgust.
Complete and utter disgust.
I couldn’t believe that even after all this time, this was his reaction to Jennifer’s death. This was the way he felt about it all... that this was the only regrets he had about the situation.
With shaky limbs, I rose to my feet, ignoring the way my body protested and the way the glass of water in front of me tipped and fell over, splashing onto the floor and onto the hem of my dress.
But did I care?
Of course I didn’t.
Not when my heart was racing so badly, it almost ran out of my chest. Not when my body temperature had skyrocketed so much, I could pass as someone down with a very high fever.
I lifted my shaky arm and pointed to the door, and in a voice colder than I would’ve ever imagined, I spat; "Get out!"
He froze, his eyes widening as he hissed; "Leilani... do you still think we did it? Why would you even think that way...?"
"Get out, Alpha Kael!" I growled again, shaking— but this time, it wasn’t out of anger but sorrow. "I do not wish to talk to you about this or anything else anymore. I sincerely thank you for saving me today, but please, I don’t want to ever see you!"
"Leilani wait, you’re getting this all wrong! I think you have the wrong ideas. I don’t think you know what you’re taking about, so listen to me please. Let me tell you what I—" he began to say but stopped when I began pounding my fists on his chest.
My hands slammed against the wall that was his body over and over again until my wrists began to hurt; But I didn’t stop.
I wanted him to feel just as much pain as I had felt that day.
I wanted him to cry like I had cried.
His hands shot out to grab both of my hands, restraining my movements and I thrashed wildly, hating that all I did seemed not to have any effects on him.
But that didn’t deter me.
And I slapped and thrashed, scratched and punched. Goddess I even kicked at everything I could reach, crying ugly until his voice began to slip into the haze of my mind.
He snapped; "Leilani, take hold of yourself!"
"You don’t tell me what to do!" I seethed, ending my sentence by slapping his chest one more time. "You have no right to tell me anything! I hate you! I hate you! I hate you and your god forsaken brothers; even your paren...!"
I however couldn’t finish my words when he forcefully pulled me close and pressed his lips against mine, causing my lips to snap shut in surprise.
I froze.
But my surprise didn’t last long as in the next minute, I bit down so hard on his bottom lip, I nearly chewed it off!
