Fated To Three, Betrayed By All… Until She Rose.-Chapter 241: Strange Leilani.
Chalice.
My entire world was ending— and I mean that quite literally.
And do you know what is worse?
The fact that I already knew that there was no way I would come out of this unscathed especially since Louis has been dragged into it.
But that wasn’t all.
Clement was here too! Watching all of these and savoring my loss like the damn psychopath that he was!
My eyes briefly met his hidden amongst the crowd before they latched onto that bitch’s face. And when I saw the triumphant smile spreading across her lips, I knew then and then that I was done for.
That she had completely thought this through and was here to hit me exactly where it hurt.
But goddess, how had I underestimated her?
How did I let all of these happen especially after knowing just how cunning and evil she could be?
I hate to say this but maybe I should’ve just let her win. Maybe I should’ve let her enjoy Zevran’s company in peace even though it was eating at me to see him so enthralled by her, especially since he never spares me a glance.
The snide comments from the women present at the party were already getting to me, and how they kept hammering on the fact that; ’he was never seen in public with me while his attention has not strayed from Leilani even once,’ nearly made me go mad.
And yes, I was mad. I was extremely mad and that was why I had tried to attack Leilani first, thinking that she would let it slide the way she used to let things slide in the past. I also thought that I would gain the upper hand one more time.
But I was wrong.
"Do you not know this man?" Her voice slipped into my thoughts, snapping me out of the self-induced reverie I’d pulled myself into.
When I looked up and my eyes met Louis’, I froze. My hands became clammy too and I nodded. "I do. He’s my bodyguard."
"And you insist that you do not have anything going on with him?" She continued interrogatingly as if trying to see if I would slip up... if I would make a mistake or say something I was not supposed to say.
I shook my head and frowned. "No."
"Are you amnesiac or you just do not know that he is your mate?" She seethed, and as soon as she asked that, my world literally went quiet, save for the steady thumping of my heartbeat in my chest.
—And the gasp that rippled through the crowd.
I could not see my husbands’ faces from here but I could feel their piercing gazes in my skin— hot and detached. And cold. And I do not know how that mixture is even possible.
My throat went dry and tears filled my eyes. But amidst all these emotions swirling within me, one thing was the most prominent.
Confusion.
I was beyond confused and shocked to know that she had always known about that one tiny secret I’ve tried to hide for years.
And while I thought these things, another thought occurred to me. It was:
If she knows this, then what else does she know?
What else has she uncovered about me and has been waiting for the perfect opportunity to let out?
Louis, on the other hand, seemed just as shocked as I was, but was that relief I saw in his eyes too?
Is he happy that I am suffering this fate?
I gritted my teeth together as I turned away from Leilani and Louis, and deciding to focus on Caelum who was usually the easiest to fool, I dropped my lashes and sobbed;
"I don’t know what she is talking about."
He said nothing. He didn’t even move.
"I don’t even know anything about that video! It is fake! And I won’t be surprised if she created it using one of those realistic AI tools!" I cried,
However, this time, Caelum moved. He pushed himself away from Kalel who seemed like he’d been holding him back the entire time. His eyes flashed with something dark and scary and I gulped when he crouched before me, hooked his finger under my chin and smiled.
But it wasn’t a soft smile.
It wasn’t the type I knew and loved.
He snorted; "Fool!"
My heart dropped. "Huh?"
"Did you think we didn’t know you’ve been sleeping with another man the entire time? Did you think we were so foolish, we didn’t notice how you were always sneaking out of the house with your bodyguard?"
My heat dropped into my stomach, and weirdly, for the first time, it felt like I felt my baby kick.
"Why do you think I made him your body guard in the first place?" Zevran cut in, and as soon as I heard those words, it felt like the air had been knocked out of my lungs.
My body spasmed with both pain and betrayal... and something else. Something I’d never felt before: shame.
I was ashamed of myself. Not because I’d done the things I was accused of but because I had been caught so easily. I was ashamed that I had easily fallen into the trap set for me by them. I was ashamed that I was kneeling in front of all these guests while my affairs were being aired like it was some podcast.
In desperation, I tried to cling to my husbands, to beg them... but whenever I inched closer, they would take a step away and away until they were so far away, it felt like I could no longer feel their protection enveloping me like a cloak.
I cried; "you’re all having it all wrong!"
No one responded right away but Leilani chuckled. She drawled; "The baby in your womb... is it the triplets or Louis’?"
And as soon as she asked that question, the crowd gasped. The expression on Caelum’s face went from cold to stony. He growled; "ANSWER HER!"
And when I flinched, I didn’t flinch because I was surprised or scared. I flinched because he’d used his Alpha voice on me and I couldn’t bring myself to lie to him.
I tried to open my mouth, to say the words but because I was fighting against the pull so much, I began to struggle so badly that I tasted my blood in my mouth.
She smiled. "You cannot even lie."
But that was all she said to me before slapping her hand on Louis’ shoulder. And to my utmost surprise, he trembled. His face contorted into the most painful frown I’ve ever seen on him and before I could decipher what was happening, he fell to his knees, his voice shaking as he cried out;
"The baby is mine."
I froze. Did she just use an Alpha voice on him?
How’s that even possible?
"Are you mad?!" I snarled at Louis but he was trembling too violently to pay me any heed. He cried;
"The child in Luna’s womb is mine and we’ve been planning to kill you for weeks!"
