Fated To Three, Betrayed By All… Until She Rose.-Chapter 238: Not wrong.
Chalice.
I know that by now a lot of you must be tired of hearing me say this, but I would say it anyway as you’re not the ones paying my bills or fulfilling my needs...
But... I was mad.
Utterly and absolutely mad.
My blood boiled hot in my veins and even as the music blasted from the speakers, the only thing I could hear ringing in my ears was the sound of my heart racing in my chest.
I could also hear the way my blood rushed in my veins, as if reminding me of the things I didn’t have... of the things I could never have.
And goddess, I was the most mad at myself for not looking ’better’ than Leilani!
It felt crazy to think that despite us being completely identical at the moment, she was the only one who still managed to pull the crowd so effortlessly.
I was mad at her for not reacting to my earlier stunt the way I had envisioned her reacting. I wanted her to be enraged. To scream, to cry. To leave. But she did none of those.
And I was especially mad at my husbands, aka Zevran, Zevran and Zevran for making a complete fool out of me today.
I balled my hands into fists as I watched them from the corner of my eye and do you know what was more annoying than the way his brothers watched too jealously?
The fact that he was smiling at her like the entire world was at his feet while they danced quietly in the middle of the hall; And from here, I hate to say this, but they looked like the better couple. Like they were meant for each other...
’They areee meant for each other.’ My wolf corrected and I rolled my eyes at her.
However, something about that realization filled my heart with more contempt than I could ever express.
It made me feel like I was about to combust. Like my limbs could no longer hold my weight anymore. I gnashed my teeth together, hating the taste of bile that now filled my mouth when...
"Candy?" A voice suddenly called out to me and I turned around just then only to have my breath hitch in my chest when I came face to face with a pair of green eyes that I haven’t seen in a long while now...
The fatso smirked upon seeing my stunned expression and when I still wouldn’t speak— because I swear I couldn’t find the words, he drawled; "Fancy meeting you here."
"No! Not now, Clement!" I hissed,
"If not now, then when?" He spat as he came to stand a little too closely, his rotund stomach pressing against my midriff as he leaned closer.
From here, I could feel the disgusting warmth from his skin seeping into my dress, and I could feel the way his familiar clammy fingers grazed against my elbows so softly. Too softly.
And God! The feeling made my skin crawl. It made me want to squeeze my eyes shut and throw up, but pushing that sensation away, I dropped my gaze and whispered; "Can we talk later?"
"No, we cannot!" He clapped back, and goddess, he wasn’t whispering! He looked and sounded like he was here to create a scene.
Like he was the drama himself!
That thought alone had my heart jumping out of my chest only for it to slam right back when my eyes met his in a very brief moment.
And goddess, he was ugly! So so ugly that Shrek would’ve won a beauty contest a million times even before he managed to smell it.
When his hands sneaked to wrap themselves around my waist, I shuddered. He seethed; "When you disappeared into thin air after stealing all my valuables, did you think we’d ever meet again... especially at your own brother’s engagement?"
"Clement..."
"Do you know why I am here?" He continued, unfazed. "Do you by chance think that I do not possess the power to crash this entire event before you even get the opportunity to blink?"
My breath hitched again when the arm wrapped discreetly around my waist tightened and then I froze.
Why?
Because his breath was fanning my neck a little too sensuously... and it was reminding me of memories that should stay forgotten.
It reminded me of the sick games he made me play... of the ways he would torment me, abuse me... exploit me. It reminded me of moments I was completely under his mercy. When I was his whore!
"I don’t know why you’re here," I lied through gritted teeth, and as if seeing through my lie, Clement chuckled.
"Have fun, Luna, but you’re completely under my mercy now. I may have loved you a bit too much but that was before you stole from me..."
"Stop talking about these things now."
"And be sure not to run this time because I’ve made sure that you do not have anywhere to hide. And girl, you know what I mean." He said, and with that, he slapped my ass before walking off, leaving me breathing hard like I’d just run a marathon.
My eyes brimmed with unshed tears as I stared hard at his retreating back, but those tears immediately dried out when my gaze dropped on Leilani’s face.
She was smiling. She was happy.
And she was my perfect way out of all these messes I’ve created for myself.
I fished out my phone and shot out a quick text to Louis to inform him of my plan to end the life of ’Chalice Blackthorne’ tonight; but just as I finished sending the text, a sudden warmth filled my back and I turned around just then to meet a familiar pair of dark brooding eyes.
"Caelum?"
"Who the hell are you texting?" He spat.
—
Caelum.
From a distance, I had been watching Chalice and the way that sleazy old man clung to her side like a goddamn pedophile, and from the look on her face, even from this distance, I knew that she was uncomfortable.
That she didn’t want him to be here or around her.
And even though I knew that that was supposed to be my cue to save her, I didn’t move an inch. Why?
Because I noticed something else.
I’d heard how he had referred to her as candy. CANDY, THE MOTHERFUCKING NAME SHE ALWAYS ABHORRED!
My fingers tightened around my glass when he slapped her ass not so discreetly and the fact that she didn’t immediately call him to order told me all that I needed to know;
She knew him... intimately.
But I wasn’t jealous. I was simply irritated that he had the effrontery to do that in public, and that she had allowed it.
However, my irritation soon turned into mortification when I noticed how she longingly stared in Leilani’s direction.
She didn’t look like she was jealous that she was dancing with Zevran.
She looked like she was jealous of her sister’s life.
And that scared me.
I turned to the bodyguard standing behind me, and my voice dropped a few notches as I whispered; "Run a background check on that sleaze. I want to know everything about him."
"Yes, Alpha."
"Also, keep an eye on Luna. She seems weird tonight."
"Yes, Alpha."
But I didn’t wait for him to do as told as I immediately walked over to Chalice with the hopes of investigating her myself.
And goddess, I was not wrong.
