Fated To Four Alphas Even Though I Am Mute-Chapter 65: To Find Out Who Hurt Our Mate
Damian’s POV
As the guards began organizing the staff, I caught Sofia’s eye. She gave me a small, encouraging nod. A gentle smile crossed her face. For some reason, that made me feel slightly better about this whole terrible situation.
We would find who did this. No matter how long it took. No matter what we had to do. We would find them, and they would pay for what they did to Heaven.
A heavy wooden table was brought to the center of the room. Desmond sat down on one side, looking weary already. Damon stood behind him, his presence looming like a dark storm cloud. Dylan stood by the door, making sure no one tried to run. I stood next to the table, holding the list of staff names.
"First name," I called out. "Anne Mill."
A young girl, barely eighteen, stepped forward. She was shaking so bad I thought she might fall over. She wore the standard black and white maid uniform, but it looked too big for her small frame. She kept wringing her hands together.
"Come here," Desmond said softly. He tried to be gentle, knowing that fear often clouded the mind and made it harder to read thoughts. "Just look at me."
Anne stepped up to the table. She looked terrified to look Desmond in the eye.
"Where were you three days ago, during the time of the attack?" I asked.
"I... I was in the laundry room, Alpha," she stuttered. tears welled up in her eyes. "I was washing the linens. I swear. I didn’t see anyone."
Desmond stared into her eyes. The room was silent. I watched Desmond’s face. He narrowed his eyes slightly, then relaxed.
"She’s telling the truth," Desmond said, his voice flat. "She was in the laundry room. She’s scared, but she knows nothing about the black magic."
"Go stand over there," I pointed to the far left corner of the room. "Next."
"Sarah Uyal."
An older woman stepped forward. She was a cook. She looked less scared and more angry. She wiped her hands on her apron.
"I’ve been cooking for this pack for twenty years," she said before I could even ask a question. "I would never hurt the Luna."
"We still have to check," Damon growled. "Look at my brother."
Sarah looked at Desmond. Desmond focused. After a moment, he nodded. "She’s clean. She was in the kitchen preparing dinner."
"Next."
The process was slow. Agonizingly slow. We went through ten people, then twenty.
Around the fiftieth person, we took a short break. Sofia walked over to us, holding a tray with glasses of water.
"Here," she said softly, handing a glass to Desmond then to me.
Desmond took the water gratefully and downed it in one gulp. "Thanks, Sofia,"
"You are doing a good job," she said, placing a hand on his shoulder. Then she turned to Damon. "You too. You’re keeping them in line."
Damon didn’t smile, but his shoulders relaxed a fraction of an inch. "We haven’t found anything yet. It’s frustrating."
"You will," Sofia assured him. "There are a lot of people to go through. Don’t loose hope."
I watched her interact with them. She was so calm in the middle of this storm. It was exactly what we needed.
We resumed the questioning.
"Owen Coop."
A gardener stepped forward. He had dirt under his fingernails and smelled like freshly cut grass. He held his cap in his hands.
"Where were you?" I asked.
"I was trimming the hedges near the east wing," John said. His voice was steady, but I could see his pulse jumping in his neck.
Desmond leaned forward. " The east wing? That’s near the Luna’s bedroom window."
The room went deadly silent again. Damon took a step forward, his eyes narrowing.
"Did you see anything?" Damon demanded.
"No! No, Alpha, I swear!" John backed away slightly. "I was on the ground level. I didn’t look up. I was just doing my job."
Desmond stared at him intensely. The seconds ticked by. It felt like hours. Finally, Desmond sighed and leaned back.
"He’s telling the truth," Desmond said, sounding disappointed. "He was focused on his work. He didn’t look up. He didn’t see anyone enter or leave."
Damon slammed his fist onto the table, making the wood crack. "Useless!"
John flinched but didn’t run.
"Go," I said, waving him away.
As the sun began to set outside, casting long shadows across the hall, the mood in the room grew heavier. We had gone through half the staff. Still nothing. No leads. No suspicious thoughts.
I looked back at Heaven. She had fallen asleep in her chair, her head resting on Mrs. Higgins’ shoulder. She looked so peaceful, yet so fragile. Seeing her like that fueled my anger all over again.
We would stay here all night if we had to. We would question every single person until our voices were gone and Desmond’s mind was mush.
"Next," I called out firmly.
Two young wolves came and sat down. They looked so much alike so they were likely twins.
"Your name" I asked.
They were shaking real bad. And couldn’t even answer my questions.
"I asked for your name," i asked again. And they flinched
"Oh, em, Alpha my name is Bia md this is my twin sisters Mia," she said. She looked like she was trying her best to compose herself.
Her Mia sister couldn’t even talk she just kept shaking. So I decided to interrogate her more.
"Mia" I called out and she snapped her head up.
"Where were you through out yesterday?" I asked.
She said exchanged looks with her twin then looked down at her hand.
"I...I was at....." Mia tried to speak but she got interrupted
"They were with me!"
I turned around and saw Sofia. She was moving closer to me.
"They were with me Damian baby," she said.
When she got to me she placed her hand on my shoulders.
"How come?" I asked.
"They were the maids I called to help me arrogance the my room at the east wing to my taste" Sofia said.
"Oh... true. okay then but I still need to interrogate them." I said. I needed to ensure that everyone was interrogated.
"as we how scared they are. Thy were with me Damian. Don’t you trust me?" Sofia asked.
She was already seeming annoyed and I didn’t want that for her.
"Okay. Okay. You both can go." I said waving my hand.
The girls hurried out. Sofia kissed me on my cheeks. She couldn’t do it to my lips because people were watching.
I called out the next staff. We wouldn’t stop. Not until the traitor was found. Not until the threat was gone. Because that is what family does. We protect our own. And God help anyone who tries to hurt us.
