Chapter 58: You... are nothing but a speck... Leech. [Bonus]
Ophis, her small hands tightly clenched around Kai’s hair, yanked his head back with terrifying force and slammed it straight into the wall with a brutal crunch that echoed.
"How dare you call me a brat?!"
Slam!
The wall cracked under the impact, fragments of stone and dust falling from the spot where his face hit.
"Do you think I’m some little girl, you arrogant bastard?!"
Slam!
Kai’s face twisted unnaturally, skin split, blood smeared across the stone. He couldn’t even scream—his magic failed him, his voice choked, completely overwhelmed by the sheer fury she unleashed. He was helpless as Ophis continued ramming his face into the wall again and again.
He had clearly struck a nerve... A very dangerous one.
"P-Please... forgive me... I was just—"
Slam!
Another thunderous blow cut him off. His head jerked violently, and his legs gave out as he slumped down, face smeared with blood.
Ophis flicked her small twin-tails with a sharp, annoyed snap, her expression twisted in disgust.
"Hmph! Next time, keep your filthy little mouth shut,"
She spat, lifting her foot to kick his face one final time.
But then—
"ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
A blood-curdling scream tore through the air. Ophis froze, mid-kick, her eyes darting toward the sound. She turned back and saw,
Nergal’s arms—both of them—were gone. His forearms gushed blood like open fountains.
Ophis’s eyes tracked the direction of the blood trail... and then she saw him.
Camazotz—her own champion—was standing there, his entire body drenched in a thick, black, sticky liquid that oozed and shimmered unnaturally. The sound of bones crunching filled the air as the dark mass at his chest munched slowly, noisily—eating Nergal’s severed hands like candy.
Her fingers trembled slightly as she released Kai, letting him crumple to the ground. She stepped forward cautiously, voice low, controlled, but laced with alarm.
"Gluttony...?"
There was no response. Not even a twitch. The darkness around Camazotz rippled ominously. Ophis frowned and stepped closer, calling again. ƒrēenovelkiss.com
"Gluttony... answer me. That’s an order."
Still no answer. Her crimson eyes flickered—instincts flared.
Every fibre in her body screamed danger, screamed at her to back off. But this was her father’s first mission, her first real assignment under his name. She couldn’t afford failure. If she lost control now...
She’d be a corpse before she got a second chance.
Suddenly, two glowing green eyes pierced through the sludge, staring straight at her. Ophis’s breath caught in her throat.
And then—Camazotz moved.
He lunged like a blur of shadows, his claws flashing forward, slicing through the air straight toward her throat.
But in the blink of an eye, Ophis vanished, leaving behind a faint swirl of black mist. She reappeared dozens of feet away, hovering mid-air, eyes narrowed.
"Gluttony! What the hell are you doing?!"
Her voice boomed with fury, ringing through the battlefield. She stood with her arms spread, hair swaying, eyes burning.
"Did you forget your orders?! Or have you lost your damn mind?!"
Her voice lost all emotion, now flat and cold. She glared at the champion, the one who now turned against her.
Camazotz only growled in response. The sound wasn’t human. It wasn’t even beastly. It was something far more feral—pure hunger and madness.
His eyes were wide, unblinking, filled with nothing but chaos.
Ophis clicked her tongue in frustration, then caught sight of movement out of the corner of her eye.
Kai and Nergal—what was left of him—were trying to escape.
She vanished again and reappeared right in front of them, arms folded, floating inches off the ground.
"Where do you think you’re going?" she asked, voice razor-sharp. "And what did you do to my Champion?!"
Both of them froze, breathless, staring at her like deer caught in headlights.
"I-I didn’t do anything!"
Nergal gasped, trying to keep balance with his half-torn torso.
"It’s him! He just snapped out of nowhere!"
Ophis’s eyes narrowed. Her expression said it all—she didn’t believe a single word.
"Then fight him," she said coldly, pointing back at Camazotz.
Nergal blinked. "Wh-What?!"
Kai, holding his bleeding nose with shaking fingers, groaned. "W-What kind of bullshit is this?! He’s your Champion! Why the hell are we getting dragged into this?! Nergal, we’re leaving! Now!"
But the moment Kai took a single step forward—
Slash!
He screamed.
Blood sprayed.
And Kai collapsed to the ground, screaming in agony—his right leg cleanly severed at the thigh.
Ophis stood behind him calmly, spinning the leg in her hand like a toy. Blood dripped down her arm.
"I won’t ask again. Fight him,"
She said, voice eerily calm, her crimson eyes fixed on them.
Kai let out a half-growl, half-sob, biting back his pain.
"Fight that shit, bastard! At least be useful for once and save your damn master!!"
Nergal stared at him, silent... then exhaled, nodding reluctantly. "Fine..."
He turned toward Camazotz, bracing himself, trying to summon what strength remained in his broken body.
But it was too late.
Camazotz was already there.
Like a shadow slipping between seconds, the black liquid lunged forward. Nergal barely managed to widen his eyes before razor-sharp claws tore through his chest with a savage rip. His body was flung backward like trash, crashing through a brick wall, then bouncing off it twice before collapsing in a bloodied heap.
Ophis clicked her tongue again, her expression hard.
Kai’s face turned pale. Dread surged through him. His heart thundered in his ears.
’I-I have to get out of here... now!’ he screamed in his mind, dragging himself away with one arm, trying to crawl and escape the nightmare.
Meanwhile, Ophis turned back to Camazotz,
She frowned and shouted sharply,
"Gluttony! Listen to me! My father will be furious if you keep acting like this—"
Before she could finish, Camazotz surged forward once again, materialising in front of her with terrifying speed. His voice, low and mangled, rumbled through the layers of sticky darkness.
"Y-Your father...? Mongrel... Do you actually believe you can control a God?!"
As those chilling words escaped his mouth, the black liquid twisted and peeled apart, revealing a writhing mass beneath. From within it, glowing claws emerged—then lashed out like spears, all aimed straight at Ophis’s skull.
Ophis’s eyes widened. Her entire body flickered as she barely dodged to the side, the claws missing her by mere inches. The pressure cracked the ground beneath her—an invisible force following the attack like a shockwave. Dust burst from the surface.
She spun mid-air and struck back, her palm glowing as it slammed into his chest.
Camazotz was hurled backwards, body twisting unnaturally, but he didn’t fall. He stopped mid-air and steadied himself like nothing had hit him.
She gritted her teeth.
"Tch... Bastard... you’ve lost your mind,"
She muttered, her feet sliding across the cracked stone.
Camazotz let out a low, guttural laugh. It was distorted, warped by whatever was inside that black sludge. His body pulsed. The black liquid thickened, and a web of veins ran across his chest as something inside thrashed to get out.
Then he charged again.
Ophis barely had time to react. They clashed.
Shockwaves exploded out with each blow. Fist against claw. Palm against fang. Red light cracked against black sludge.
Ophis darted through the air like lightning, dodging and weaving, countering each attack with everything she had. Her arms blurred as she parried his claws, but her strikes weren’t breaking through.
Camazotz was getting faster.
Getting Stronger.
And getting more brutal.
With a sudden shift in movement, Camazotz roared and slammed his elbow into her ribs, sending her flying. She crashed into the ground, bounced once, then slid, dragging rubble with her. The stone beneath her tore like paper. She coughed up blood, struggling to get back up.
Her breaths were getting heavy. Her knees trembled.
’No... I can’t... fall here...’
She pushed herself up again, face smeared with blood, eyes wild with defiance.
"You belong to me!" she screamed, leaping forward once more. "You obey me!"
Camazotz didn’t respond. He simply raised his clawed hand and caught her mid-charge, his grip wrapping around her neck. She gasped. Her feet left the ground.
The Black liquid burning her up...
"You... are nothing but a speck... Leech."
His voice was no longer just his own. It sounded like a dozen voices layered behind him—deep, monstrous, ancient.
He lifted her higher. Ophis squirmed, her hands grabbing at his wrist as her throat was crushed in his grasp. Her power flared one last time. Crimson energy burst from her body as she screamed and blasted point-blank into his chest.
Camazotz staggered back.
Ophis dropped, coughing, barely landing on her feet. But her vision was doubling. Her power was slipping. Her limbs grew heavy.
She was losing.
And just then...
Thud!
"..."
Click.
A faint sound. A mechanical trigger beneath the rubble.
Camazotz paused.
Ophis blinked.
And from the corner of her bloodshot eye, she saw him.
Kai.
Crawling.
His entire body was broken. One leg missing. His face was swollen and cut. His hand was trembling.
But his fingers... had pressed a stone embedded in the ground.
The trap.
"You... psychotic bitch..." Kai muttered, blood dripping from his chin. "Take your goddamn shit and fall with it..."
The ground beneath Ophis suddenly cracked,
Ophis’s eyes widened in horror.
"No—!"
The platform shattered beneath her. The section of stone Ophis stood on crumbled violently, glowing runes flaring one last time before collapsing completely—sucking her into the swirling void below. A gust of air burst upward as her scream echoed, vanishing into the darkness.
Camazotz stood still for a brief moment... then the structure under him also gave way. The black sludge twisted, and with no footing left, he too plunged downward—his body swallowed by the same abyss.
Kai remained lying on the cracked floor, breathing heavily, his chest rising and falling as the chaos around him finally settled.
He blinked in disbelief. He had survived.
"...Holy shit... it actually worked."
His voice was raspy, barely a whisper.
He didn’t know if it was luck, divine timing, or sheer desperation—but somehow, he was still alive.
The monstrous Champion was gone... Ophis had fallen.
Kai exhaled deeply, a tired smirk forming on his bloodied lips.
He slowly turned his head, catching sight of Nergal’s limp body. Then, to the black puddle of remains where Camazotz had stood moments ago. And finally, he glanced at the ruin of his own body—his leg gone, face battered and disfigured.
He reached into his inner pocket with a trembling hand and pulled out a golden-colored stone etched with runes—its surface warm, pulsing softly with light.
"Fucking useless champion..." he muttered under his breath, lips twitching into a sneer. "All that damn power, and you still defeated by that shit"
Without another word, he pressed the rune stone against his chest.
The stone glowed. Magic spread through him like golden fire.
Slowly, the bloody stump of his leg began to regenerate, muscle knitting itself, bones growing back. His shattered jaw was realigned. Cuts sealed, bruises faded. His breath evened out.
Meanwhile—
Deep beneath the broken platform, in the winding tunnels below...
Ophis and Camazotz tumbled through a steep, twisting tunnel carved into the earth. Their bodies slid uncontrollably, scraped and tossed by the tight turns.
Camazotz snarled as he twisted in mid-slide, trying to claw his way toward Ophis—his eyes locked onto her like prey. His claws reached out, fingers stretching to grab her.
But before he could close the distance—
Fwoosh!
The tunnel split.
A sudden gust of wind shot through the split chamber, and the path forked in two directions. Camazotz was yanked into the left tunnel by the rushing force, his body dragged away in a violent swirl of darkness and mist.
Ophis gasped as she saw him vanish from view.
She was left alone, still sliding down the right side of the tunnel. Her body bounced and skidded through the rocky passage, clothes torn, arms bruised. She panted hard, her vision swimming.
Then, up ahead—light.
A faint glow pierced through the darkness, and she could see the end of the tunnel approaching.
Her breath caught. Her body ached. Her magic was drained. Her eyes fluttered.
’Not now... stay awake...’
She struggled to hold on. But her eyelids felt heavy.
Just as her body flew out of the tunnel’s end, suspended in the air for a split second—she caught a glimpse of something.
A figure.
A red-haired boy was walking. He raised his head in surprise as her body dropped from above.
Their eyes met for the briefest moment.
His expression shifted from confusion to pure horror as he saw her falling—
Right on top of him.
Thud!
They both hit the ground with a heavy crash.
The boy groaned in shock and pain, buried under her unconscious body, his eyes wide, trying to comprehend what had just landed on him.
