Falling for the Omega Idol-Chapter 218: DANCE MISSION (V)
WHEN the rhythm picked up, the members turned their torsos to the side while their legs stayed planted. One arm crossed the body in a slow sweep, then pulled back in close. Their heads followed the motion last, turning after the shoulders, before returning to center at the end of the intro, ready for the movements of the first verse.
Lights flash, heart beats out of line
Pour it up, we’re runnin’ out of time
Breathless now, don’t ask what’s next
We’re already over the edge
As the first verse began, the members of Phenix spread out into a looser formation. Their heels lifted first before the rest of their foot followed. Their hips shifted in a subtle, rolling motion with each step they took.
The center member leaned back just a little as he moved, his chest lifting while his head stayed low. His hands moved slowly from his sides to his waist. The members beside him mirrored the timing, turning their shoulders inward as if closing the space between them.
On the next beat, they pivoted their feet and rotated their hips, keeping their upper bodies loose. Their movements stayed smooth, with no sharp stops. Each motion just flowed right into the next one.
As the song continued, they stepped forward one after the other instead of all at once. Each member rolled his shoulders back as he moved, letting the motion travel down his torso. Their eyes stayed low or looked to the side, avoiding any direct look at the camera until the end of the verse. Then they all faced forward together, holding the pose for a moment before moving into the next part.
Red eyes, reflections bending
Truth blurs, senses colliding
Hands shake, but I keep smiling
Something sweet in this violence
Whispers crawl under my skin
Laughter sharp like broken glass
Every step pulls me deeper
No way back once we pass
As the chorus began, the members of Phenix closed the distance between each other. Their feet stayed planted wide as their hips pressed forward and drew back with the beat. The movement stayed slow and controlled, with their knees bending just enough to keep everything smooth.
They stepped outward one by one, dragging their back foot before putting it down. Each of their step came with a shoulder roll that opened their chest, before they relaxed them back down. Their heads angled slightly as they moved, eyes lowered or turned away instead of looking straight ahead.
As the chorus continued, they turned their bodies at an angle, stepping and shifting their weight from one leg to the other. One hand rose to gently rest the fingertips against their neck, holding the pose for a beat, while the other arm remained relaxed at their side. Even while holding this upper body shape, their hips continued a slow, rolling motion in time with the music. Then they turned to face front again, holding the final pose as the song moved into the next section.
We’re spinning, losing control
Burning high, losing our souls
Laugh it off, then cross the line
One more step, we’ll be just fine
Hearts racing, out of our heads
Breathing fire, seeing red
Hold your breath, forget the pledge
We’re falling hard—over the edge
Haneul watched the video and swallowed without meaning to. There were a lot of rolling hip movements and body waves. He could not imagine himself doing all that with a seductive look on his face. But he would have to. If he didn’t, he would just look like a robot on stage. He took a deep breath and kept watching, trying to memorize the official choreography for the chorus.
When the video ended, Eunwoo looked at the other three in his group. "So, what do you think? Does anyone want to volunteer to be the center?"
"Why don’t we all try dancing the chorus and see who does the point choreography best?" Lim Suho suggested. "That way, it would be fair to all four of us."
Jeon Hyunsik nodded. "I agree."
When Haneul didn’t say anything right away, the other three turned to look at him. So, he cleared his throat and spoke up. "Okay, let’s do that."
He actually didn’t want to be the center. But if he avoided this just because he felt embarrassed, how could he ever become a real idol? Besides, if he said ’no’, the audience might think he lacked ambition or was not taking this seriously. Too much ambition could seem greedy, but not having any might look like laziness. So, it was better to take the middle path.
"Then, if we all agree, who wants to go first?" Baek Eunwoo asked as he set the tablet down.
Lim Suho raised his hand eagerly. "Me! I’ll go first!"
He stood up and got into position. He turned at an angle and stepped quickly, shifting his weight sharply from one leg to the other. His hand shot up to tap his neck with a confident snap, holding the pose for a second, while his other arm dangled at his side. Even in the pose, his hips bounced with a sharp, energetic pop on each beat instead of a rolling motion.
Haneul thought Lim Suho’s moves were good. It was clear he had the technique, but the way he danced was too energetic and upbeat for a song like [Over the Edge].
"That was good," Haneul said to Lim Suho with an encouraging smile.
Lim Suho grinned back. "Thanks!"
After he was done, Baek Eunwoo volunteered to go next. He then stood up. He turned at an angle, stepping and shifting his weight from one leg to the other in a precise, measured way. His hand rose smoothly to rest his fingertips lightly against his neck, holding the pose for a clean count before lowering it. His other arm stayed relaxed at his side. Even in the held position, his hips executed a slow, controlled roll that matched the rhythm of the imagined music exactly.
It was a flawless, textbook copy of the dance practice video.
