Fairy, Don't Be Afraid, I Am Blind-Chapter 46 - 40: New Clothes
"Are you sure it was your junior sister who asked you to buy these?"
The middle-aged proprietress of the clothing store glanced at the elegant handwriting on the note, then looked up and down at You Su, who had the appearance of a proper gentleman.
"That’s right. Please wrap up the light green... no, all the light-colored dresses that meet the requirements on this note. I’ll take them all." You Su spoke firmly, adding, "Don’t give me the common fabrics; I only want the expensive ones."
The proprietress looked hesitant. She was no stranger to You Su; after all, she paid the most attention to the handsome young men in the city, and You Su ranked first in her heart. Like clothes make the man, every time she saw You Su pass by her store in his plain clothes, she felt it was a pity, thinking of him as a poor blind boy abandoned by his master who couldn’t afford clothes that matched his exquisite appearance. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
If it weren’t for the fact that her husband was still around, she might have tried to see You Su’s limits with money.
She had seen many who lavishly spent money for women, but those were always the famous aristocrats of the city. You Su’s sudden generosity made her doubt whether he really had such means:
"You Su, it’s not that Auntie is reluctant to sell to you, but those fine clothes are very expensive. Can you afford them?"
You Su feigned an innocent look and pulled out a large, heavy bag of taels of silver from his sleeve:
"My master left me some money when he left. I can’t see and don’t know how much it is. Auntie, help me see if this is enough?"
The proprietress’s eyes immediately lit up with a golden glow, and she beamed with smiles:
"More than enough! I must say, You Su, how can you, a blind man, have such a good eye? Buying clothes for a lady, you’ve definitely come to the right place at our Cloud-Picking Clothing Store!"
With that, she pulled on You Su’s sleeve, leading him into the inner chamber, and shot a mysterious glance at the measurements on the note, then patted You Su playfully on the shoulder and said, "You lucky boy!"
No one knew how many dresses You Su had to feel before finally making a choice. The proprietress thought well of You Su and didn’t aim to overcharge him while selecting the dresses, and ended up buying eight in total. There was even some silver left over in that big bag.
"You Su, you’re so generous to your junior sister, you shouldn’t be too stingy with yourself. Auntie has given you a robe, it’s in this bag here, don’t mix it up. Come to Auntie’s place in the future, and I’ll give you a good price!"
The proprietress handed You Su four bags in total, two large and two small, and didn’t forget to touch the slender yet strong hand of the young man.
Feeling a chill, You Su then remembered he still had to carry the food box later, and these many bags were inconvenient, so he said, "Thank you, Auntie. I will definitely patronize your place far into the future. I still have to fetch other things. Could you help me pack the clothes in these two small bags together? My junior sister won’t mind."
The proprietress, however, looked enigmatically at him and said, "Trust Auntie, she will mind! Hurry and bring these new clothes back."
You Su walked off in bewilderment, not understanding why it would matter since they were all new clothes.
The proprietress watched You Su’s figure walk off into the distance, clicking her tongue in wonder:
"I’ve seen women ask men to buy clothes before, but never have I seen them even ask to buy undergarments. Tsk, could this be part of their little game too? Alas, those styles, an old woman like me couldn’t dare wear, so they might as well go to his junior sister..."
...
After dinner, having arranged with You Su to continue the teaching session that night, Ji Lingruo eagerly carried the new clothes back to her room.
Although she appeared calm on the outside, no girl would not look forward to new clothes, even if she might not care much for these mundane fabrics.
She opened the three packages from largest to smallest, and to her surprise, among the skirts were a few that she rather liked. However, there were still two with fabric so revealing that they couldn’t decently be worn outside.
Ji Lingruo cursed You Su as a fool, surely the store owner had tricked him, since such scanty and improper clothes often cost a lot.
But she didn’t mind, happily sizing them against herself one by one, feeling sweetly pleased and thinking that her stingy senior brother wasn’t so heartless after all, willing to spend money.
After comparing them, she carefully took out the clothes from the small package, feeling a bit flushed thinking these undergarments were bought by You Su for her. She wondered what the store owner must think of her.
But there was no help for it, since she’d outgrown her old skirts, the undergarments naturally needed to be replaced too.
In the bright lamplight, she slowly unfolded the undergarments. The top few were not much different from her requests on the note, but the further she sorted through, the more she felt something was wrong. Under the light, Ji Lingruo’s face grew redder and redder, almost as if it would drip blood.
"What on earth did he buy... why is this dudou transparent? Why is there a gap in the middle of the bustier! Based on my requirements, how could that store owner have given me such indecent clothing? And those two skirts too... no wonder that blind boy agreed so quickly, turns out he had bad intentions!"
...
The "Ruyi Wind Manipulation Skill" is truly an extremely profound body technique compendium. Simply understanding a part while reading creates a sense of ethereal lightness in one’s consciousness.
The crescent moon hung over the sparse parasol trees as You Su was enthralled by the cultivation technique, unable to extricate himself.
At this moment, a captivating silhouette sneaked in quietly. Seeing You Su unmoved, Ji Lingruo was somewhat annoyed.
She had come just as he wished, wearing those kinds of clothes, and how could he have forgotten their agreement to practice Qi movement tonight? Playing hard to get, huh?
Ji Lingruo, fuming, took a sip of tea and slammed the cup on the table heavily.
You Su, startled from his meditation, suddenly realized:
"Junior sister, you are here?"
"I’ve been here for a while!" Ji Lingruo’s voice was cold, no one knew who had provoked her.
You Su, baffled, apologized, "I apologize for making you wait, junior sister. Shall we begin?"
"Are you in a hurry?" Ji Lingruo’s eyes looked at him with disdain as if he were useless.
"Um, jumping right in would indeed be hasty." You Su got out of bed to sit opposite Ji Lingruo, "Try moving Qi without my assistance first, let me see how much you’ve grasped, junior sister."
Seeing You Su’s indifferent demeanor as if underestimating her, Ji Lingruo decided to show him her progress, so she assumed a sword stance and tried to mobilize the unruly Profound Qi within her body.
She was pleased to find that the Profound Qi indeed began to follow a path of circulation, but sadly, she was going the wrong way.
"This is incorrect, the Profound Qi should flow from the lower abdomen up first, then down."
You Su stood up to point out Ji Lingruo’s mistake and naturally reached out to press on Ji Lingruo’s lower abdomen to guide her.
Ji Lingruo looked at You Su’s unhesitating hand approaching without any sign of restraint, making her both furious and nervous, feeling as if she’d swoon from heat.
At the moment he touched the young girl’s lower abdomen, You Su pulled his hand back as if he had touched a snake in a blind box, stammering:
"Junior sister, you- you- you didn’t wear clothes?!"
Ji Lingruo also jumped as if electrocuted, the spot where You Su touched felt numb and tingling, her face flushed red and tears almost flowed from shame:
"Who said I’m not wearing clothes? I just bared my waist, it’s the skirt you bought me!"
