Extra's Strategy: Cultivate Protagonists, Become Invincible-Chapter 227: Everyone Is Playing A Pig To Eat The Tiger
"Is anybody home? I have come to respond to your challenge, junior brother!"
The muffled voice woke up Han Xuhan from a deep sleep right at the crack of dawn.
He hadn't slept in a good while, a result of constantly devouring all kinds of medicinal supplements for his body and mind. Being awakened at a time like this certainly did not feel pleasant.
Craning his neck outside through the bedroom window, he yelled back, "Chen Yan, go away! Come again, another day! Let little Xuhan finish his wet dreams, will you?"
"Who the hell is Chen Yan?" The muffled voice roared in indignation.
Han Xuhan sighed. Of course, Chen Yan wouldn't want to reveal any traces of his identity while trying to fleece money from him. He must have come prepared.
Trudging out of his room, he opened the door of the hut and looked outside. A cloaked and masked silhouette stood in his yard, appearing somewhat creepy in the dim light of dawn.
"What challenge are you here to respond to? Is there a ghost festival going on in the sect? What's with that costume?"
"Quit the bullshit!" Chen Yan snapped.
"Didn't that senior brother of yours declare a proposal of a one on one fight? My juniors informed me that the winner can ask for whatever they want from you. Is that right?"
Han Xuhan rolled his eyes emphatically. "Then go bother that senior brother of mine. What's the point of visiting me?"
"...?!" Behind the mask, Chen Yan was speechless for a long moment.
He wanted to shout that he knew all about Han Xuhan's plans. He knew that this senior brother was just a disguised skeleton soldier, a scheme to create a shadowy backer in charge of Han Xuhan's own affairs.
But doing so wouldn't bring him any benefits. He could guess that without probing.
If he revealed what he knew, Han Xuhan would start harping on about the fact that nobody except Chen Yan and his followers could be privy to such secrets. That would be too risky a conversation.
Back when he had decided to blackmail Han Xuhan for the first time, he hadn't hesitated to show off his identity and status. He had asked for a share of the resources openly, driven by two reasons.
Firstly, he knew that Han Xuhan had purchased a mystic art focused on creating illusions and fake memories, which meant that any claims of blackmail by Han Xuhan could be disregarded even if the sect's authorities got involved.
But this guy kept finding ways to force him into involving himself in the mess. If the situation dragged on like this, Chen Yan's own memories and other circumstantial evidence could form a clear case against him.
Secondly, he had underestimated how reckless and cunning his 'fat sheep' was. This brat didn't have a silver of fear in his heart despite being on the edge of a massive scandal every day.
Who could predict what measures Han Xuhan might take to frame Chen Yan during these exchanges?
Considering these things, Chen Yan had decided to become more prudent while dealing with Han Xuhan. Recently, he had even warned his juniors to never refer to him while trying to snatch the resources from Han Xuhan's hands.
His direct involvement in this scheme must never be evident! He could forget about escaping this planet if the authorities got wind of his deeds!
Moreover, it was much more convenient for him to pretend that he didn't know who this mysterious senior brother behind Han Xuhan was. He could humiliate this brat and toy with him in all kinds of ways...
"So where do I find this senior brother of yours?" Chen Yan finally broke the silence and asked.
"I don't know who he is. I don't know where he lives. But he did say he's going to deliver another lecture on law cultivation this morning. Why don't you challenge him there?"
"Heh!" Chen Yan sneered behind the mask. He could read Han Xuhan's plan as easily as adding two and two.
This guy clearly wanted to use the crowd of disciples attending the lecture as a shield. He probably hoped that with so many eyes watching, Chen Yan wouldn't dare to show up.
He had already riled those disciples up for this very purpose the last time, claiming that Chen Yan was after the legacy of law cultivation. Those juniors held utmost animosity towards him now.
But what Han Xuhan didn't understand was that this creates the perfect opportunity for Chen Yan to humiliate Han Xuhan thoroughly in front of numerous people, alongside legitimizing his claim on those resources Han Xuhan has been hoarding!
I mustn't let him sense how eager I am to show up during that lecture and give him the thrashing of a lifetime...
Suppressing his laughter, Chen Yan put up a show of frustration and anger as he stormed off, spouting some stupid threats like how he was surely going to figure out that mysterious senior disciple's identity and teach him a lesson.
A few hours later, at the foot of the Salted Fish Mountain, an unusually large crowd gathered, every heart there brimming with a sense of intrigue and excitement.
Many of them weren't even that interested in the lecture on law cultivation.
They just wanted to see two seniors beat each other up. They wanted to learn the mysteries behind the scenes. They wanted to know who was backing Han Xuhan, known in the outer court for being the biggest spendthrift of their generation.
As usual, the session started with a cloaked figure descending from the mountain and starting the lecture without wasting a moment. But today, the figure was barely a couple of sentences into it when a louder voice came from the back of the crowd.
"Wait a moment, please. I have a question to ask!"
Everyone, including Han Xuhan, turned to look. It was none other than Yang Kai, the disciple attending the lectures to spy on Han Xuhan under Chen Yan's orders.
Of course, only Han Xuhan knew this fact. To the rest of the disciples, his image was clean.
From the 'podium', Zhanxian asked in an annoyed tone, "What is it?"
"A few days ago, during the last lecture, you said that a disciple who can defeat you in a duel gets to ask you for anything, right?" Yang Kai's eyes shone brightly as he spoke.
Han Xuhan couldn't help but feel impressed.
Senior Brother Chen Yan was truly a cautious man. Throwing this idiot to test the waters...
He was using his cannon fodders so efficiently!
"You're misinterpreting what I said back then," Zhanxian said, sounding displeased.
"My challenge was for that insidious senior disciple who wants to monopolize the legacy of law cultivation. Moreover, how the hell am I supposed to give anybody whatever they want? Do I look like a Celestial from the heavens?"
Yang Kai tried to clarify himself quickly.
"What I meant is that as long as you are defeated in the duel, you'll do what the winner asks you to do, right?"
"Yang Kai, are you in cahoots with that scheming senior disciple? What are you planning?" Han Xuhan shouted from a corner, leaving the young man dumbfounded at his shamelessness.
The effect of his instigation was immediate. Numerous gazes filled with suspicion and rage focused on Yang Kai, who began to splutter from anxiety.
"I'm not! I just thought- I wanted to challenge... Erm..."
Taking the opportunity, Zhanxian began to run his mouth.
"Well, if the winner asks me to do something ridiculous, for example, treating him like my son, or having se-"
"No, no, no, nothing like that," Yang Kai shouted in exasperation.
"Can't the winner ask for things like cultivation resources, advanced knowledge of law cultivation, and other reasonable requests?"
"But why would that senior disciple want these things?" Han Xuhan said. "Isn't he after the legacy?"
"I have nothing to do with that senior disciple," Yang Kai declared.
"I just felt that this could be an opportunity to test myself against an expert. It doesn't matter if I win or lose. So I would really appreciate it if this challenge were left open for more than one person."
"I support the proposal!" Someone from the crowd yelled.
"Yeah! Let Brother Yang Kai fight!"
"We have to know whether the person teaching us law cultivation is an expert or not, don't we?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
Many voices in the crowd spoke up in unison. Han Xuhan could tell from a quick glance that those speaking were mostly new faces.
Maybe Yang Kai and Chen Yan had instructed them to come and support their little scheme. Or they could just be ordinary troublemakers.
Their unified requests began to sway the momentum in Yang Kai's favor. Zhanxian and Han Xuhan exchanged a slow look and nodded at each other. Then Zhanxian's voice rang out above the noisy mob.
"If that's what you all want, I'll entertain the request."
Yang Kai's grin stretched from ear to ear as he began making his way towards the cloaked skeleton soldier. However, Zhanxian wasn't finished speaking.
"If I fight you, it would be a duel between a disciple of the senior generation and a junior. How can that be fair? Would I be able to show my face to my peers even if I defeat you with one slap?"
Yang Kai said in confusion, "Huh? Then what-"
"Just go fight junior brother Han Xuhan first. If you can defeat him easily, then I'll have no choice but to step in myself!"
