Undoubtedly, there wasn’t much else left to do to make both progress bars reach 100%. He just needed to go through the motions, stick to the plan, and wait for the rewards to drop into his lap.
Sitting on his bed, Han Xuhan decided to draw up a harsher routine for himself. Currently, he could get his hands on as much resource as he needed. As long as the deal between the Holy Land of Laws and the Crimson Snow sect lasted, he didn’t need to worry about poverty.
He needed to ensure that he reached a substantial level of power by the time he faced a new, deadlier danger. The world of cultivation never lacked those.
Soon, a combined cultivation plan took shape on his desk. Now that he was an official disciple of the sect, he could attend all the basic and elite lessons without any problem. So a big part of the day went behind the Elders’ lectures.
Xuanyuan Zhou had agreed to guide him on both the Monastic and Martial path. He knew he could get the same benefits from Mu Ran, probably without even offering him anything valuable.
But Mu Ran hoarded the secrets to his cultivation methods too protectively, lying all the time. Not to mention, he was rarely available for extended discussions, always busy with activities he refused to talk about.
If a normal outer court disciple saw the amount of resources he was planning on dumping on himself and his two minions, they’d probably mistake the routine to be an expenditure record for his entire mountain peak. Han Xuhan was planning to pay for everything remotely useful during cultivation, and that was a long, long list.
Not enough qi around the hut? Pay for the best type of qi-gathering formations!
The qi in the surroundings are lacking in quality? Pay for the best purification and condensation apparatuses!
Mind wanders frequently? Buy potions for concentration and clear thoughts!
Hip and back problems occurring after sitting too long? Buy medicines to keep the body unaffected!
Lacking inspiration and feeling tired after a long session? Buy a supply of the rejuvenation drink!
Random itches all over your body distracting you during meditation? Buy the specialized gadgets that can detect all physical discomfort and massage and scratch the perfect spot in an instant!
Noise bothering you from outside? Expensive formations can filter all elements of nature for your focus!
Afraid of nature’s call interrupting your immersion? Eat the expensive digestion-strengthening pills to make your body treat your meals like a drop of water in an endless desert. You’ll not piss, nor shit!
For the first time in his life as a cultivator, Han Xuhan came to appreciate the vast list of tempting items being sold by the sect in order to empty the pockets of the disciples. When he was broke, these gadgets and formations sounded like unnecessary luxuries. Now, things were different.
Taking a large pouch filled with spirit stones in his hands, Han Xuhan went out to the sect’s treasury.
The treasury pavilion was one of the biggest and busiest buildings in Crimson Snow Sect, built on top of a heavily guarded mountain. The number of senior disciples frequenting the area was the highest compared to all other peaks.
Even the guards and the workers inside belonged to the previous generations of disciples, having failed to retain their status in the outer court as official disciples.
Some hadn’t been able to keep up with the sect’s standards for cultivation speed. Some had failed to pay fees and loans, ending up technically expelled. Some had been injured in the course of business of the sect and given a job here as a consolation award.
Han Xuhan had heard several unsavory things about this pavilion from Xiao Wu. Apparently, because of their previous status as disciples of the sect, the workers here were quite arrogant, engaging in many shady deals and corrupt practices.
They even ’charged fees’ for guiding the customers to the materials they needed! If you refuse to pay, the resources and apparatuses you go home with may turn out to be low-quality and faulty. And there was no refund policy!
Some old Elders backed them up for shares of profit from their unethical dealings. So the rookie outer court disciples had to accept the norm.
Aware of the unofficial rules, after entering one of the blocks reserved for the purchase of cultivation resources, Han Xuhan avoided the hawkish claws of the older workers and introduced himself to a relatively young man sulking in a corner.
When he revealed his intention to buy resources, the senior’s eyes lit up in happiness.
"Come with me! I’ll help you choose the top-notch materials!" He said as he dragged Han Xuhan from storage to storage enthusiastically.
However, barely had Han Xuhan began selecting what he would buy when a large shadow fell on them. A burly hand snatched the list from the young worker’s hands and shoved him out of the way.
"Xiao Po, why the hell are you stealing my business? Didn’t I warn you that all materials in this storage aisle belong to me for the week? I need it to repay my loans! You don’t want me to be beaten up, do you?"
