Extra's POV: My Obsessive Villainous Fiancee Is The Game's Final Boss-Chapter 156: Goodbye For Now
Ren woke up slowly, awareness creeping into his consciousness like a thief in the night.
He opened his eyes, the only thing above him the blues of the sky as the sun slowly peaked over the horizon. He'd slept sitting with his back against cold stone, his head resting on it as he gazed at the sky.
There was a layer of water on him from where the mist had set. He sat up, his hand coming up to his neck to massage the crick that had formed in it.
He looked around him, at all the headstones that had been replaced in the past few months. The cemetery hadn't been hit too hard by the bomb that had taken out the castle but a lot of the headstones had been hit hard.
He slowly rose to his feet, walking around to stand at the front of the two headstones at the edge of the cemetery. He stood for a moment, gazing at the two of them.
The first read, "Here lies Abram Ross. He died on his feet, as only the strongest do."
Ren's eyes moved to the second headstone. "Darius Ross. A brother's strength, a father's pride, a hero's death."
"Hey guys." He smiled sadly down at the stones. "It's my birthday. I'm finally sixteen."
"Yeah, I know." He chuckled. "I never thought this would be the way it would come but the past can't be changed. Can it?"
He paused.
"Father, it is time. Time to leave. I've come to say my final goodbyes." He exhaled. "I do not know when I'll be back but I do know that your sacrifices won't be in vain."
"Goodbye, father. Goodbye, Darius."
Ren turned and left the cemetery. As he walked, he looked down at the village below.
In the past few months, the villagers had returned, and with the help of money from the Ross family, rebuilt their houses, farms and trades. The money hadn't just come from the Ross coffers, but Ren had also dipped into his own money, helping with the rebuilding.
He'd invested in a few businesses, even building a bank for the villagers. He'd sponsored merchant caravans and the Ross family was building a proper road. The hope was to attract people from the more populated territories to the growing wealth of House Ross.
He was hoping to come back in a few years to see the village become a small city.
He walked into the new castle, a smaller but much more grander version of the old castle. It had cost a few tens of thousands of gold coins but it was worth it. This one would be able to withstand another bomb like the one that had decimated the old one. Not to mention the fact that it was beautiful.
He greeted the guards on duty as he walked to his room. Inside, he pulled off the clothes he'd slept in while watching the stars, walking into the adjoining bathroom.
After his bath, he dressed himself, heading down to the dining room for breakfast.
"That's my son!" Maria Ross stood as he entered, walking forward to give her son a long, tight hug. "Happy birthday." She whispered.
"Thanks, mother." He smiled.
She pulled away to look up at his face. "You've grown even more in the past months, eating all our food." She chuckled. Then, said quietly. "I wish your father could see you now. He'd be so proud."

"Yeah."
With smiles, the both of them took their seats on either side of the dining table. The servants entered, loading the tables with their breakfast.
"Are you sure you want to leave today?" His mother asked.
"Yeah." Ren nodded. "I have this… feeling that things will not be as easy as getting to Elnoria and stopping the Calamity before it spreads. I'd like to be there as soon as possible but I'd also like to honor father's wishes. Now that I'm sixteen, this is the perfect time to leave."
"Well, I can't argue with that." His mother smiled at him. She stared at him for a few more seconds, a smile on her face. "You remind me so much of Abram. Brave and willing to do everything to keep your people safe."
"Everyone with half a brain will be willing to do whatever they can to keep their family safe." Ren chuckled. "But I'll accept the compliment."
The door swung open and Felix walked in, looking every bit the lord that he was. His posture was straight, Freedom clipped to his hips, and he'd even grown a meticulously kept beard.
"My lord!" Ren greeted with a grin.
"Ren." Felix chuckled, sitting at the head of the table. "Happy birthday."
"Thanks." Ren chuckled. "But I'm more interested in what's making you late for dinner."
"I was overseeing the territory defenses we just installed. It hasn't been easy."
Ren had informed his family of some of the Calamities, especially the second great Calamity, which would essentially destroy the world, turning it into a hot, barren wasteland. The Underwood family had also done the same, creating their own territory defences, even though he hadn't revealed anything of the Calamities to Lord Underwood.
"I'm here now." Felix smiled. "Let's eat."
Breakfast progressed, and at the end of it, Ren left to prepare. An hour later, he and Thorn were in the courtyard, tying their supplies to their horses.
"Ren!" Felix called as he climbed down the stairs to the courtyard, Maria following behind her. "You didn't think we'd let you leave without saying goodbye, did you?"
"Of course not." Ren secured his pack before turning to grin at his brother.
His mother stepped forward and wrapped him into a long hug. He held her for a few seconds as she sniffled into his chest.
She pulled back, a watery smile on her face. "I'll miss you, child."
"I'll miss you too." Ren replied.
Felix cleared his throat and their mother stepped back. "I've been thinking of what gift to give you as you leave, and there was only one thing that came to mind."
Felix smirked as he unclipped the belt around his waist, removing the sword attached to it, and stretching it, shield and all, to Ren. "Here."
"You're giving me Freedom?!" Ren stared, eyes wide at his brother.
"Yeah." Felix chuckled. "We all knew father wanted you to have it. Besides, it'll serve a greater purpose in your hands than mine. Have it."
Ren slowly took the sword from his brother, still shocked. Then, he surged forward, pulling Felix into a hug. Not a single word was said, but both brothers understood each other.
With a final round of greeting, Ren and Thorn mounted their horses, riding out of the castle.
They rode through the village, receiving the cheers of the people.
As they finally got onto the road leading off to their destination, Thorn finally spoke. "You know, I'm sure I have everything I need, but something tells me we're missing something."
"Of course we are." Ren turned to grin at his friend.
"Really? What are we missing?"
"Lilith."
