Extraordinary Realm from Persuasion System-Chapter 600 - 217: The Power of One Ignites the Entire City!_3
Upon hearing this, Zhou Zhenghua looked in that direction.
His heart suddenly skipped a beat.
In the photo, he saw bodies scattered everywhere, and rivers of blood flowed. But that wasn't the most critical part; the crucial point was the way these Black Ghosts had died. Almost all were directly sliced in half by some sharp weapon. Only a few bodies remained relatively intact, with a rhombus-shaped hole in the head or chest. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Zhou Zhenghua had seen these injuries before. Back when he was in the Tai Luo Kingdom, the criminal organization that had kidnapped Lin Pengfei, along with the Tai Luo Kingdom police, had died in the exact same manner.
The answer was obvious.
Zhang Beixing did this!
Realizing this, Zhou Zhenghua began to frantically search his mind for a way to exonerate Zhang Beixing. After all, he was one of Zhang Beixing's handlers. If something happened to Zhang Beixing, he too would find it difficult to evade responsibility. Not to mention, Zhou Zhenghua still wanted to use Zhang Beixing to dismantle D&E's laboratory in Ancient Rome. Under no circumstances can Zhang Beixing be taken in!
Zhou Zhenghua racked his brains, trying to come up with the right words.
Before Zhou Zhenghua could think of anything, Zhang Beixing glanced at the photo and said unhurriedly, "So? Does this prove I did it?"
"What a joke. I admit I brought a spear, true, but my spear isn't bladed. You all know that, right?"
"The injuries in the photo were clearly caused by a sharp blade. Do you really think I could achieve that with this blunt weapon of mine?" Zhang Beixing retorted.
His words stunned everyone present.
During customs inspection, they had checked Zhang Beixing's luggage. Therefore, they all knew Zhang Beixing wasn't lying about this. All his weapons were, without exception, unsharpened blunt instruments. Logically, a blunt weapon couldn't possibly inflict the kind of damage shown in the photos!
"Captain, could we have really misunderstood?" some of the Ancient Rome police officers asked. Unfamiliar with Zhang Beixing's background, they had been swayed by his argument and now looked tentatively at the Black Ghost officer.
At this, the Black Ghost officer's face instantly darkened. However, since its complexion was already quite dark, the change was barely perceptible to an ordinary person.
Zhou Zhenghua silently gave Zhang Beixing a mental thumbs-up. I really didn't expect him to argue from this angle to clear his name! 'My weapons aren't bladed, so they couldn't have done it.' What a line! If I hadn't handled his previous cases, I might have actually believed him!
However, as clever as this sophistry was, there was still a problem. No matter how well Zhang Beixing argued, it was ultimately a lie. The murders were an undeniable fact. Eventually, all they'd need to do was take samples from his weapons for forensic analysis. His sophistry would collapse instantly. In fact, it could even become irrefutable proof that he committed the murders.
Clearly, Zhou Zhenghua wasn't the only one who had thought of this; the Black Ghost officer had too.
It was just about to voice this, but before the words could escape its lips—
TRRRING—! A strange and urgent ringtone suddenly blared from its phone.
Hearing this, the Black Ghost officer's expression flickered, and the words on the tip of its tongue were swallowed back. It quickly took out its phone, turned, and walked outside.
Since the door hadn't been closed, the people in the room could vaguely hear the Black Ghost officer step outside, answer the call, and then question, "Why?" and "On what grounds?"
When it returned, the Black Ghost officer's face was incredibly grim. It glared at Zhang Beixing as if looking at a mortal enemy. But recalling the phone conversation, it finally gritted its teeth, bowed to Zhang Beixing, and said, "I apologize, sir. We were mistaken. You are not the suspect in this case. It was our error. We will leave immediately!"
With that, it spun around and muttered under its breath, "Dismissed."
Without looking back, it left the place.
Seeing this, the other police officers stood frozen, utterly baffled.
Noticing they hadn't moved, the Black Ghost officer barked in a low voice, "Are you all deaf? Move out!"
The other officers snapped back to reality, hurriedly holstered their weapons, and followed.
They had arrived with such menace, only to retreat in disarray. The contrast was jarring.
This turn of events completely baffled Zhou Zhenghua; he couldn't make heads or tails of the situation. However, one thing seemed clear to him: For now, Zhang Beixing should be safe.
"How did you manage this?" Zhou Zhenghua asked, perplexed.
From the Black Ghost officer's behavior, it was clear that the phone call had made it abandon Zhang Beixing's arrest.
In response, Zhang Beixing simply shook his head. "I don't know."
He genuinely didn't understand what had just happened. Today is my first day in Ancient Rome. I'm a stranger in a strange land. There's no way I could have the connections or ability to arrange something like this. Yet, somehow, it happened. This, too, left Zhang Beixing somewhat perplexed.
"Alright, if you don't know, then let's drop it." Zhou Zhenghua could see Zhang Beixing wasn't lying and didn't press the matter further.
He turned to leave. But just as he was about to leave, something seemed to occur to him. He added pointedly, "Oh, right, Mr. Zhang, remember to take good care of your spear. It wouldn't do for such a fine weapon to be sullied by filth."
