Chapter 101: The Pendragon

A network of red lightning instantly burst from her pores, enveloping her body in a crackling halo. She channeled her aura into the muscles of her legs and into the blades of her claws. The ground beneath the discharge emitted a dry sizzling sound.

"You master an Art? No matter," retorted the mage with disdain. He raised his hand, without haste.

"Elemental Magic: Water."

<Second Circle Spell: Concentrated Surge.>

A mass of water, far denser and more compact than the previous wave, formed in the air and rushed toward Kara. She leaped to the side, but the edge of the attack caught her, enveloping her in a viscous liquid. Her movements immediately grew heavier, and the electric energy around her lost intensity, extinguishing in places.

A thin smile stretched the mage’s lips. "You should know that mana always surpasses aura. But I suppose wild beasts are incapable of understanding this subtlety."

Without giving her time to recover, he followed up, sketching a new runic gesture.

<First Circle Spell: Water Sphere.>

A perfect bubble of water formed around Kara, closing on her in an instant. The hydraulic pressure increased brutally, compressing her torso and hindering every attempt at movement.

Kara clenched her jaws, with this aquatic prison threatening to drown her.

’He thinks he’s already won.’

She tried to force her aura, but the electricity dissipated on contact with the water, ineffective. She launched a Slashing Claw Strike, but the movement, slowed by the liquid density, lacked speed and power, failing to pierce the sphere’s wall.

The mage burst into a contemptuous laugh.

"This is your true nature. Simple beasts thrashing in their cage."

He approached slowly, confident.

She took a deep breath, using the air in her lungs.

<First Movement: Acceleration.>

She brutally redistributed her aura. The electricity enveloping her body instantly retracted to concentrate exclusively in the muscles of her legs. The water pressure remained crushing, but her lower limbs, suddenly overloaded with energy, released explosive power. With a single lightning kick, she struck the ground inside the sphere itself.

The aquatic bubble exploded under the shock, pulverized by the force of the detonation and the speed of the impact. Kara burst out of the liquid prison and propelled herself backward in a precise pirouette, regaining tactical distance.

The mage frowned, his arrogance slightly dented.

"Hmm? Unexpected."

Kara leaped toward him.

He then raised both hands, his fingers tracing complex runes in the air. "Third Circle Spell: Salvo of Surges."

The mass of water fragmented into half a dozen compact projectiles, converging toward Kara from different angles. She dodged the first with a lateral leap. The second hit her shoulder, the sharp water blade opening a clean gash. The third grazed her thigh, adding a new wound. Blood began to flow down her arm.

The mage smiled, regaining his assurance.

Kara landed, slid on the damp earth, then stood up. Her expression was calm. When someone committed an act of racism, getting angry only fed their joy and their feeling of superiority.

’It is enough to humiliate him fairly.’

"I’m afraid you’re the idiot in this story. I forced you to use your last card and you’re using exactly only three spells."

"Huh? What are you talking about?"

"If you only have three spells, that means you’re just a pathetic third-circle mage."

"Shut up! Filthy beast!"

In reality Kara didn’t even need to get hurt, she was fast enough to avoid it, she just wanted to test the power of his attack and if she could take it head-on.

’It seems I was cautious for nothing. With his big mouth one would think he was already a fifth circle.’

The electricity, which had dispersed, brutally converged toward the blades of her claws. The lightning there became dense, crackling with threatening instability. Every movement of her hands now left a glowing red trail in the air.

She attacked without preamble. The mage, seeing the charge, tried to reform his Sphere to trap her. But she was already too close. Instead of retreating, Kara struck the forming bubble with her overloaded claws. The water, subjected to an intense electric discharge and physical force, tore like fabric. She broke through the barrier.

Her right claw sliced the mage’s side in a horizontal motion.

The man recoiled sharply, his breath cut by pain and surprise.

"What?!"

One second...

Kara exploited her increased speed to circle around him, her body nothing more than a continuous circular motion. Her first pass sliced the tendon of his extended arm meant to cast a spell, canceling his gesture. And slapped her palm toward his face, breaking his nose. Blood spurted instantly, splashing Kara’s face with a warm spray.

Two seconds

Before he could even scream, a third movement, a low and lightning-fast kick, shattered his knee. The mage partially collapsed, one hand instinctively flying to his ruined face.

Three seconds

She smashed his jaw on her knee, breaking several teeth.

"You had quite a big mouth..."

She struck him again and again.

*Crack*

The mage’s face was shocked, he could only scream with his dislocated jaw.

"Kuhhhh*Cough* Mercy..." He managed to say as drool and blood dripped from his mouth.

Kara grabbed him by the hair.

"No..."

She violently released him and his back smashed against the trunk of a tree.

At that precise moment, a complex magic circle appeared under his feet. An academy safeguard mechanism had triggered, recognizing defeat and critical injuries. The cold light engulfed the mage, and his cry was abruptly cut off when the circle closed on him, teleporting him to the infirmary.

Kara remained motionless for several seconds, the only audible breathing in the returned silence. Her aura gradually dissipated.

"Good, let’s continue exploring this forest," she murmured while jumping onto a branch.

*Pendragon Faction Manor*

In Skycity, the Pendragon faction’s domain extended like an autonomous citadel. The buildings, imposing and of modern architecture, were built in solid stone with coppery reflections.

The corridors were wide, the common rooms vast and silent, permanently populated by a crowd of students who came and went with discipline.

The faction’s power did not reside in individual excellence, but in numbers. It was an army of interchangeable faces, all submitted to a single authority.

This authority resided in the personal chamber of the heir to the legendary Pendragon family: Godwin Pendragon.

A monumental suite located in the main tower. The room was quite austere, without any ornament other than his family’s coat of arms engraved in the marble of the wall facing the bed.

There, on a wide and low bed, Godwin was lying, surrounded by four young women with conventionally beautiful features, chosen for their docility and immediately recognizable grace.

"What was your name again?"

The girl lying on him smiled legendarily.

"I am the youngest daughter of the baron-"

"Yeah whatever, just come suck my dick."
