Chapter 100: Art: Lightning Coating

Kara had not planned to join a faction.

She knew that many students were already seeking to group up, to form temporary alliances, to protect themselves through numbers. She understood the logic; after all, being among the last to be eliminated guaranteed a good contract with factions.

But that was not her path. She had never relied on others to survive. That was what Black Neon had taught her, and it was not going to change now.

"Well... I’ll think about it later. For now, let’s deal with these monsters."

Her gaze settled on the clearing below. Five orcs that were superior rare rank monsters. Their thick skin, their heavy weapons, they were discussing in an unknown language over a piece of rotting meat.

Kara took a step back on the branch, bent her legs slightly, then jumped backward to gain momentum. In the same motion, she sprang forward, her body slicing through the air with a sonic boom.

An electric energy field burst around her, enveloping her in a red color. Crimson sparks raced along her limbs. Her hair stood on end from the static charge. Her perceptions sharpened: the world seemed to slow, details became precise. The beating of her heart became more regular.

She landed on the shoulder of the first orc before he had time to turn his head.

Without hesitation, she drove her claws into his throat. Blood spurted, but the orc could not even scream. He collapsed, his mass hitting the ground with a dull thud.

The second orc finally reacted. He brandished his club and brought it down with all his strength. Kara had already moved. A simple pivot to the side, and the heavy weapon smashed into the corpse of the orc where she had stood a moment before.

The Lightning Coating was not an art of brute force. It acted on speed, precision, and anticipation. Every movement had to be anticipated, consuming aura for tenfold speed.

Kara struck with an elbow to the orc’s temple. The shock disoriented him. She followed up, planting her claws at the base of his neck. He collapsed in turn.

"I am a C+ rank warrior. Did you really think a rare monster could defeat me?"

Her voice was calm, she seemed disappointed by the level.

"I was expecting more."

The last three orcs roared. One raised a two-handed axe, another gripped a club, the last gathered a crude aura around his arms.

Kara let out a weary breath.

"You are too slow. You stupid monsters."

Kara arched her back. Her body leaned forward, her claws lightly digging into the ground with a crackle of energy. Her ass raised and the muscles of her thighs tensed to the extreme, she concentrated all her aura in her legs, ready to propel herself in a lightning acceleration.

This position concentrated all the lightning in her legs.

*Lightning!*

She seemed to disappear in a crimson electric blur.

In reality, she simply moved faster than their eyes could follow.

She reappeared behind the axe-wielding orc, slicing the tendon behind his knee with a swift motion. The monster fell screaming. Before his body had even finished collapsing, she pierced his skull.

The fourth orc tried to strike her from behind. Kara jumped, used his shoulder as a foothold, and used the momentum to smash his head against the ground.

*Crack*

The skull gave way with a dry crack.

"Only one left."

"Rooooaaahhh*

He struck the ground with his fist, rage visible in his eyes.

"You are wasting your energy," Kara murmured.

Then she lunged.

The orc growled, his massive hand charged with raw energy that made the air crackle. "Me crush you!"

He swung a straight punch. The demonic energy accompanying it shot forward.

She did not dodge from afar. She slipped inside his guard, her own arm wrapped in reddish lightning. Her hand, claws retracted to concentrate the force.

She aimed at the orc’s elbow.

*CRACK*

*Roooaaahh*

The orc’s arm bent the wrong way.

Before the scream could end, she had spun on herself. Her other hand, claws fully extended and electrified, plunged into the orc’s chest, just below the sternum. It was not a wild slash, but a precise punch delivered with the full weight of her rotating body.

The lightning burst out through his back, piercing the muscular mass. The orc’s roar choked into a gurgle. His bloodshot eyes widened, staring at the impossibly small creature that had just dealt him the fatal blow.

He wavered, tried to raise his other arm, which fell heavily. Then his knees gave way, and he collapsed face-first into the dirt, scraping along.

"So this is superior rare level."

She prepared to finish off the last orc still writhing on the ground. She jumped, gathering her aura in her palm.

But before she could strike, a wave of water surged from nowhere.

The liquid mass crashed violently into the area.

*Boom*

The ground was devastated. Nearby trees were uprooted. Kara was thrown backward, forced to cancel her attack mid-flight.

She landed farther away, sliding several meters, then stopped abruptly, crouched.

Her gaze hardened.

"Attacking me from behind, it must be someone without honor." She murmured to herself. Quickly forming a moral portrait of her attacker.

Kara remained crouched for a few seconds, her claws anchored in the ground, until her aura flow regained perfect stability. Then she raised her eyes.

A man emerged from the edge of the trees. He was dressed in noble mage attire, immaculate and without the slightest trace of combat. His posture was straight, his gaze disdainful. A perfectly controlled concentration of mana enveloped him, forming a translucent mist that lingered at the level of his boots.

"Pathetic," he declared in a dry voice. "A demi-beast who imagines she can join an academy of this rank."

Without answering, Kara slowly stood up. She analyzed the opponent. Although she clearly perceived the mana flows surrounding him, her level of perception did not allow her to precisely evaluate his power.

’That previous wave... he most likely has an affinity with water.’

"I have no interest in debating with you," she began in an even tone. "However, you interrupted my fight."

The man sneered. "To me, there is no difference between a demi-beast and an orc. I am simply taking advantage of the situation to eliminate inferior beings who kill each other." His gaze hardened. "Your place is not here. You should stay in your wild lands."

Kara exhaled long and slow, emptying her lungs. "So this is the true level of the academy. You attack like a coward, a typical noble without honor... Let’s finish this!" 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

She bent her legs slightly, adopting a starting stance.

"Art: Lightning Coating."
