Exploring Technology in a Wizard World-Chapter 181 - 180: Terror of the Deep Sea
Chapter 181: Chapter 180: Terror of the Deep Sea
The people on deck looked out onto the sea and saw a pale green glow rising quickly from beneath the water.
On closer examination, it was apparent that the source was a jellyfish shaped like a small umbrella, suspended in the water and radiating fluorescence like a firefly living in water.
Following the appearance of the first jellyfish, a second and a third emerged…soon hundreds of jellyfish appeared swiftly.
In the blink of an eye, tens of thousands of fluorescent jellyfish emerged from the depths of the ocean, floating just beneath the water’s surface, no more than a centimeter deep. A radius of thousands of meters of sea surface was illuminated with a dreamlike pale green glow from the jellyfish. The massive ship sailed through the water as though gliding over the leaves of water lilies, a spectacle of stunning beauty.
Those on the deck widened their eyes, unable to restrain exclamations of amazement.
“So pretty!”
“So beautiful!”
“This is my first time seeing something like this!”
“What kind of creature is this?”
“They’re glowing.”

While everyone was intoxicated by the beautiful sight, unable to snap out of it, a huge and terrifying black shadow swiftly darted below in the green fluorescence, vanishing in a flash.
Huh?
Those who saw it were taken aback, and, after pausing briefly, tapped the person next to them and asked, “Did you…see what just happened?”
“What thing?” The person beside them was puzzled, obviously not having seen it.
“It was something that swam by underwater just now.” The one who saw it explained, gesturing with their hands, “As big as a mountain, looked like a sea monster.”
“A sea monster? As big as a mountain? Impossible. You must be seeing things,” the other replied skeptically.
“But…” The one who had seen it began to hesitate, not daring to be absolutely certain. But then, catching something in the corner of his eye, he quickly said, “Look over there!”
The speaker shouted and pointed into the sea, drawing the attention of many around him. This time, everyone saw it.
In the direction pointed out, a colossal black shadow loomed in the water, beneath the pale green fluorescent jellyfish. It was easy to miss unless one paid attention. But on closer look, it resembled a mountain or a city within the sea, giving anyone who saw it a sense of suffocating pressure.
This…
Suddenly, the shadow moved, surging towards the massive ship, and just when it looked like it was going to collide, it abruptly dove downwards and skimmed under the bottom of the vessel.
“It’s on the port side!” someone cried out, and quickly a large group from the deck raced toward the ship’s port side. Indeed, they saw the black shadow emerge from under the water, then it turned and swam back.
“It’s gone to the starboard side!”
People on deck immediately returned to the starboard side to continue watching.
To be honest, the feelings of those present weren’t filled with curiosity; they were more so filled with fear, fearful that the dark shadow below might truly collide with the massive ship. If that happened, even if the Master Wizard made a move, it would likely be futile.
Thinking this, the shadow shifted again.
“It’s gone to the front!”
“It’s moved to the front-left!”
“To the back! It’s gone to the back!”
For some unknown reason, the gargantuan black shadow in the water seemed extremely interested in the massive ship, constantly circling it, while the people on the deck watched in horror and trepidation.
After a long while, the huge shadow seemed tired or maybe bored, and it came to a stop alongside the ship, motionless.
After about a few seconds of stillness, the water “splash” sound rose. The jellyfish below were startled and scattered in all directions. The shadow then quickly rose, breaking the surface of the water, revealing its true shape to the onlookers, who finally comprehended its immense size.
It was in fact a super-sized fish, over sixty meters long, and while it might be much smaller than the massive ship, if it were to actually collide with the ship, there was no guarantee that the ship would be safe. The hearts of those on board raced with fright.
“This…it’s so big!”
“Such a huge fish!”
“Is this really a sea monster?”
“What… what does it want to do?”
“Could we be in danger?”
“This… this can’t be some sort of test, can it?”
“Should we go notify the Master Wizards?”
“Ah, the Master Wizards have already arrived.”
Everyone turned around and saw four wizards who had appeared silently on the deck at some point, squinting at the giant fish in the water.
“It’s a gargantuan sea fish,” Wizard Siv said.
“I prefer to call it a Floating Island Fish,” Wizard Louis remarked.
“Some also refer to it as an Iceberg Fish,” Wizard Quinton added, “But they’re just names, after all. Such creatures are rare.”
“Indeed, I’ve been out to sea many times, and this is the first time I’ve encountered one,” Wizard Dempsey said seriously.
“Speaking of which, this creature is supposed to have a rather docile temperament according to the records, right?” Wizard Louis’s eyes twinkled.
“But that doesn’t mean it lacks aggression, and it’s omnivorous after all; it might be looking to go carnivorous,” Wizard Quinton analyzed rationally.
Hearing the wizards’ discussions, Richard’s eyes flickered as he looked toward the giant fish in the water, understanding in his heart that this should be a whale from modern Earth, and judging by the species, it was likely the largest—the Blue Whale.
However, the largest Blue Whales recorded on Earth are only about 30 meters in length and weigh up to nearly 200 tons. But the one before them already exceeded 60 meters, weighing close to 1000 tons.
A thousand-ton Blue Whale!
This… was somewhat terrifying!
The wizards continued their discussion, and Wizard Louis asked, “What exactly attracted this Floating Island Fish here?”
“Blood? The corpse of a mermaid?” Wizard Siv ventured a guess.
“That’s possible,” Quinton agreed.
“Let’s wait and see what it wants to do,” Dempsey said, his voice low, “If it just wants to consume the corpse, we should let it be. But if it aims to attack the giant wheel, that we cannot allow.”
“Mm,” agreed Siv and the other two, following Dempsey to the edge of the deck, watching the enormous Blue Whale in the water.
The enormous Blue Whale was also staring at the four wizards, and both sides locked eyes for quite some time.
Ultimately, it was the Blue Whale that made the first move, slowly opening its mouth and beginning to take in water.
Visibly, as the Blue Whale took in water, a vortex formed in the water in front of its mouth, and all nearby objects like the mermaid’s corpse and Fluorescent Jellyfish were sucked in, then swallowed by the Blue Whale.
The Blue Whale closed its mouth, filtered out the seawater, and then swallowed its food.
Indeed, it was just feeding.
The expressions on the wizards’ faces slightly relaxed, but they did not completely let down their guard, ready to act at any moment. After all, if the gigantic Blue Whale were to attack, even if it couldn’t smash the giant wheel in one hit, it could still seriously damage it, greatly delaying their voyage. And if it rammed several more times, everyone aboard might have to swim back to the White Stone Tower.
In this way, the four wizards remained vigilant as time quickly slipped away, and the enormous Blue Whale continued to feed. Finally, after having its fill, the Blue Whale took a deep look at the wizards, turned its body around, and prepared to leave.
The expressions of the four wizards settled, and everyone else on the giant wheel’s deck let out a collective sigh of relief.
“Splash, splash,” as the Blue Whale turned to swim away, the wizards prepared to return to their cabins, and the students prepared to go to sleep.
But in that moment.
“Splash, crack!”
The sound of water being broken, followed immediately by a loud boom.
Everyone spun around to see a massive, blood-red tentacle, hundreds of meters long, stretch out from the deep sea, breaking the surface and wrapping around the body of the enormous Blue Whale like a rope. The tentacle then tensed, ready to drag the Blue Whale down into the depths.
This!
On the deck, everyone’s body stiffened.
