Exploring Immortality Cultivation-Chapter 359 - 112: Research Path
Chen Feng's reply was simple.
"The human heart," that was his research subject.
But Wang Qi was not satisfied with this conclusion, "Who are you trying to fool? Is this huge project something you can research all by yourself? It's not like the discipline was just established. Be more specific."
As research deepened, disciplines would branch out into finer and finer specializations. Taking Earth's history as an example, during Galileo's era, a fairly strong scientist could research all the physics that was available to be studied. However, by the beginning of the twentieth century, even Einstein couldn't cover the entire domain of physics.
When Chen Feng said "the human heart," it seemed too vague. According to Wang Qi's previous life's research methods, just one functional area of the human brain could sustain tens of thousands of researchers.
"Specifically speaking, it's even about the formation of the human heart," Chen Feng inquired, "Do you know of the Three Pure Ones?"
Wang Qi nodded, "The human heart is divided into three parts, with the most fundamental being bloodline instincts, called Primordial, or Yuqing. Constraining the Primordial is Dao Morality, or Taiching. The essence that the original heart can grasp is known as the Spiritual Treasure, or Shangqing."
Chen Feng nodded, "This theory is actually full of holes, very primitive and rudimentary, but it gave me a lot of ideas."
"I've told you before, I'm researching along two lines, one is the relationship between the brain, the soul, and thought, and the other is the relationship between Human Dao and the human heart. The former is equivalent to Yuqing Primordial; the latter pertains to Taiching Dao."
What is the hum
an heart? What is consciousness?
Viewed from different perspectives, there are varying answers; the benevolent see benevolence, the wise see wisdom.
In the eyes of Wang Qi, a physicist reincarnated, human consciousness was an existence formed when information was organized in a form of negative entropy and could possibly hold a special position within the physical system. To most biologists, however, consciousness wasn't so mystical; it was merely a function of the human brain, the result of numerous neurons processing information.
Chen Feng clearly belonged to the latter group. What he was mainly researching was how this "result" came into being.
"Boss, your approach is quite peculiar," Wang Qi frowned, "There really isn't much connection between the two sides of this project."
According to his understanding, the former was neuroscience, and the latter was social science; the difference between them was vast.
Chen Feng shook his head, "I'm not researching what 'Dao Morality' specifically is, nor am I studying which 'Dao Morality' fits within ethics. I only research how Dao Morality is produced and how it interacts with the Primordial. Similarly, I don't study the utility or mechanism of a specific instinctive response, or how it is produced. I research how these numerous responses form the massive 'Primordial' and how the 'Primordial' interacts with 'Dao Morality' to create the Spiritual Treasure."
Wang Qi posed another question, "Then why involve the grand topic of 'Human Dao'?"
"To understand 'Dao Morality,' it's necessary to know where it comes from," faced with Wang Qi's sharp questioning, Chen Feng was confident, "Do you know what 'pseudo-social life beings' are?"
Wang Qi shook his head. He only knew about "social animals," like ants and bees. As for "pseudo-social," he really had no clue.
"This concept is also quite obscure in Spirit Beast Mountain so it's normal that you don't know," Chen Feng said earnestly, "This term is actually specifically referring to the Human Clan."
Humans are different from typical social animals. Ants and bees' sociability is rooted in instinct, while human sociability is not based on genetics. If a baby is isolated from people from birth, he will grow up unable to speak, think, and will not show the slightest sociability.
In this regard, the Human Clan is even inferior to wolves.
Yet, individuals struggle to survive when separated from the group, while the combined strength of people coming together far surpasses that of each individual fighting alone.
This is typical of social animals.
Chen Feng referred to this strange phenomenon as "pseudo-sociality."
"If human Dao Morality does not come from bloodlines, then it must certainly come from Human Dao."
"And Human Dao, in turn, originates from the convergence of human hearts."
"These two in fact are one and the same."
"I must admit, I'm somewhat impressed with you, Boss," Wang Qi couldn't help but applaud, "The train of thought is very good. So what's your goal?"
Chen Feng tapped on the table, smiling, "The goal of the Human Dao line of research isn't actually that ambitious, but according to our contract, I still can't tell you too much. So please allow me to keep this secret."
This is how modern research teams work. Aside from the leaders of experimental projects, the apprentices conducting the experiments don't need to know the overall plan or the ultimate goal of the experiments—of course, it's not excluded that they simply don't understand the experimental data.
However, Chen Feng's inscrutable expression made Wang Qi shiver.
Could it be that his goal is "all the Cultivators in Shenzhou uniting"? Or "a specter, a red specter wandering the Shenzhou Continent"?
Apart from this strictly confidential goal, Chen Feng's other research goals were very clear. His research was actually integrated with his Cultivation, and it was also a complete System.
Firstly, the research on the nervous system and the soul aimed to deepen his understanding of the theoretical foundations of Yangshen Pavilion. Then he would fine-tune the mental method, complete the construction of the Golden Core, and pave the way for the Primordial Spirit.
As for the research on the human heart and human thought, the goal was to enhance the power of his Illusion Technique spells. Only with a sufficient understanding of the human heart could one grasp it.
And this plan also had a subsection—Acquired Will, or artificial intelligence.
Creating an untouched will from nothing was greatly beneficial to Chen Feng's understanding of the existence of spirit. And his research on the human heart could be continually incorporated into this artificial intelligence.
Wang Qi exclaimed in amazement, "Let's not talk about the first two goals for now, but for the latter, how long do you plan to work on it?"
"Perhaps a few hundred years?" Chen Feng laughed out a research period that an Earth scientist could hardly imagine, "One must have some long-term planning."
Alright, I forgot again... Those great works which would take several generations of Earth scientists to complete, for Cultivators of this world, are just long-term planning...
"So you're saying, my task is to focus primarily on the last one?" Wang Qi realized, "Acquired Will is connected to calculator and Mathematics logic, my Foundation Establishment approach is derived from Calculator Theory and architecture. And then concerning Mathematics logic, among my peers, I can definitely claim to be number one—correct?"
"There's actually also the task of building models for Human Dao Mathematics, which Youjia can handle," Chen Feng said sincerely, "I did tell you from the start, this project absolutely requires you."
"Is that it?"
"Eh, it's written in the contract, data processing and the likes are also your job..."
