Exiled!? Ha! I have An Infinite Space-Chapter 29 -
Morning came, and everyone woke up one after another.
Not long after, the head guard stood up and told everyone to come and collect their food for the day. His men brought out the dry buns and began handing them out.
Fu Tong and Fu Teng went together, with Fu Sheng beside them. They collected their buns quietly and returned.
On the other side, Grandma Fu and Uncle Fu stayed seated. They did not move at all. Instead, they told Bai Ming to go and get the food for them.
Aunt Fu also stayed where she was, sitting with her daughter Fu Jia and her son Fu Fong. None of them stood up.
Bai Ming paused for a moment, then stood up with her two children and walked forward to collect the buns.
The head guard noticed something was wrong.
He looked past Bai Ming and saw the others still sitting comfortably, waiting to be served. His face darkened immediately. He slammed his stick on the ground and shouted, "Do you think this is your home? If you’re not ready to come forward yourselves, then don’t eat."
He turned to his men and said sharply, "Give food only to her and the two children."
His men obeyed at once.
Bai Ming and her children received their buns.
No one else did.
Grandma Fu and Uncle Fu immediately stood up and rushed forward, trying to explain and beg, but the head guard didn’t even look at them. He waved them away impatiently.
Seeing this, I laughed softly. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Fu Fei, standing beside me, also smiled, clearly amused.
Fu Li had already collected her own bun earlier. When she saw what was happening, her grip tightened. Her face darkened, and she turned around and walked away without saying anything.
I watched her leave and shook my head.
"Most people cool down after sleeping," I said to Fu Sheng. "Your sister just gets worse."
Fu Sheng sighed but didn’t argue.
We turned around and went back to sit with the rest of the family.
Not long after, the head guard spoke again.
"We leave in thirty minutes."
Everyone began preparing.
Another day had started.
.....
I watched everyone as they ate the dry buns. No filling. No taste. Just hard bread that barely did anything to ease hunger.
I placed my hands on my waist and spoke up. "Alright. Now it’s time for breakfast."
Fu Tong paused mid-bite and raised his brows. "Haven’t we already eaten?"
I shook my head. "If this counts as breakfast, then call me crazy."
They all looked at me.
I didn’t waste time explaining. "Fu Tong, go and set up the fire."
He hesitated for only a second before nodding and moving.
I turned to Fu Fei. "I remember we have some potatoes in one of the bundles. Bring them out. We’ll boil them and take them with us on the road."
Fu Fei’s eyes lit up slightly. "Alright." She hurried off at once.
Then I looked at Fu Teng. "Go fetch some water and get it boiling."
"Yes." He moved quickly.
Finally, I turned to Fu Sheng.
"They won’t give us anything else to eat until night," I said plainly. "I need you to go find some edible fruits nearby. Nothing fancy. Just things that won’t upset our stomachs."
He looked at me for a moment, then nodded.
He looked at me for a moment, then asked quietly, "And you?"
I let out a small sigh and turned toward Master Fu.
"I’ll check Father’s wound again," I said. "It’s a new day. I need to clean it and redress it."
Fu Sheng nodded, his expression serious. He didn’t say anything else, just turned and left to do what I had asked.
I walked over to Master Fu and knelt beside him. He was already awake, sitting against the bundle, his face still pale but much better than the night before.
"Does it hurt?" I asked.
"A little," he replied honestly.
"That’s normal," I said. "But we shouldn’t leave it like this."
I carefully loosened the bandages, checking the wound as I worked. The bleeding had stopped, and the swelling hadn’t worsened. That was a good sign.
Madame Fu watched closely from the side, clearly worried but not interfering.
"I’ll clean it again," I said calmly. "Then we’ll wrap it fresh before we leave."
As I worked, the smell of boiling water drifted over from the fire Fu Teng had started, and the sound of the others moving around filled the camp.
It wasn’t a proper morning.
But it was enough to keep us going.
After I finished dressing his wounds, Master Fu let out a long breath. His face looked better than before, and the tight pain in his expression eased.
"I feel much better," he said quietly.
"That’s good," I replied. "Just don’t move too much."
Nearby, Fu Fei had already washed the sweet potatoes and placed them into the pot. The water soon began to boil, and the smell of the potatoes slowly spread through the camp. It wasn’t fancy food, but it was warm and filling.
While the potatoes cooked, Fu Tong and Fu Teng began folding the blankets. They worked quickly and carefully, stacking them neatly.
Little Jin and Little Jun also came over to help. Their small hands clutched the edges of the blankets, doing their best to copy the adults. No one stopped them.
Soon, everything was packed.
The blankets were tied back onto the bundles, and the camp was cleared. Fu Tong and Fu Teng carefully lifted Master Fu and placed him onto the wagon. A soft blanket had already been spread out, making sure he could lie comfortably without pressing on his injured legs.
Madame Fu stayed close, adjusting the blanket again and again, unwilling to leave his side.
By the time the sweet potatoes were almost done, Fu Sheng returned.
He was carrying two baskets filled with fruit. There were mangoes, apples, oranges, grapes, berries, and a few other fruits I didn’t recognize at first glance. It was more than I had expected.
I looked at him in surprise. "You really found a lot."
"They were not far," he replied simply.
He carried the baskets toward the stream to wash the fruits, and I followed after him. I had brought along five medium-sized water containers, enough to keep us all hydrated for the day.
While he washed the fruits carefully in the flowing water, I knelt down and began filling the containers one by one. The cool water splashed lightly against my hands, and soon all five were filled and sealed.
Once I finished, I glanced at him. "Did you rest at all last night?"
He paused for a moment, then continued washing the fruit, his eyes focused on what he was doing. "I slept later," he said. "I’m fine."
I rolled my eyes and pressed my lips together.
"You probably only slept for an hour or two," I said. "Tonight, I’ll make sure you actually rest. I’ll watch over things."
He shook his head slightly, then lifted his hand and flicked my forehead with his fingers. It didn’t hurt at all, but I still reacted on instinct.
"Ah!" I cried out dramatically, covering my forehead and glaring at him.
He ignored my reaction and stood up, ready to leave. "Things like that are not your concern," he said calmly. "Fu Tong and Fu Teng are both there. You don’t need to watch over everything."
With that, he turned and started walking back toward the camp, carrying the baskets of fruit.
I stared at his back for half a second, then quickly stood up.
"Hey—wait!" I called, hurrying after him.
I caught up to him easily and walked beside him, still rubbing my forehead. "You say that, but you’re the one who never rests," I muttered. "If I don’t watch over things, who will?"
He didn’t answer right away, his steps steady and unhurried.
I glanced at his side profile and sighed quietly.
This man really was stubborn, but i liked him like that.
